Great points. They camera work on the channel is a lot better than other channels I seen with board game content, since on some other channels, they can play through the game so quickly that sometimes, they don't take the time to do that fancy edit work to zoom it on the cards as they are played for the first time during the game. At least here, they take the extra time to do that, and the qualtiy of the videos has gotten a lot better since when they started on playing board games while traveling on vacation a while ago, hence their early days of the channel. Hopefully, it will continue to grow in the future.

Hi Pat and Glai! Very entertaining video. Congrats to Glai on a big win. Your strategy was flawless. Hang in their Pat. Its frustrating to draw multiple cards and the ones you need just refuse to come out of the deck. Glai was at the top of her game, and it would have been difficult to beat her no matter what. She constructed a nice engine early, and that constant supply of cash was devestating. Thanks again and I'm looking forward to your next video.

So if anyone is looking to start Viticulture that is a great edition to get since it has all the original stuff plus some of the enhancements. I also have the 'Tuscany Essential Edition' which has 3 more expansion modules to add on top of 'Viticulture Essential Edition' It has the newer and bigger 4 season board (which is also super cool) + special workers + new Structures (nice). Good playthrough of a game that tends to irk me when my crew brings it to the table (we rotate among the four of us; when one is missing, the 3p selection is ad hoc). Pat ran into precisely what lessens the game for me: too much reliance on luck of the draw. This problem compounds with vines, visitors, and orders. Too constraining for my taste, as opposed to, say, Agricola, which limits you to a certain selection of cards, yet generally doesn't impinge on your ability to accomplish basic goals of the game (room-building, family growth, improving infrastructure, and so on). The Tuscany expansion helps a bit, just not enough. Anyway, good video, and congrats to Glai for a well-played win.
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Geoff. I quite like Viticulture, but definitely the luck of the draw was frustrating during this game. I spent so many rounds trying to pick up a vine card with white grapes but they just weren't coming out, while Glai was building her engine and generating an income and points. A simple fix in the design of this would have been to have separate decks for white and red grapevines, and the luck just being on the value. The grapes age anyway, and I could have used a high value red with a low value white to make blush and sparkling wines... But I have to say that I do enjoy the theme of the game and the process of harvesting grapes, producing wines and aging everything was nice and relaxing for me. And of course, a nice glass of red wine in the hand while playing does add a lot to it! haha. Glai set up her engine very nicely and definitely deserved her win!

@@AllAboardBoardgames I have vague memories of playing Vinhos once or twice and enjoying it a little more. I may have to track down a copy just to see if my memory is accurate. Good suggestion on splitting the vine deck; that might help a good deal. My thinking was along the lines of having a market that might offer a variety of vines for sale and/or some process of extracting seedlings from harvested grapes. Of course, there's still the problem of obtaining useful orders; Glai appeared to be quite fortunate in that respect. Perhaps a draw two or three and pick one system might work. Your suggestion of having a handy glass of wine is, of course, right on the money! 😄
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames 3 жыл бұрын
@@MisterG2323 I like your idea of having a market where you can buy a variety of vines. That would certainly make it fairer, and the higher value grapes would of course cost more. As for the useful orders, I think it worked the other way around for Glai. She was focusing on drawing orders early, and then using that as a target for the types of wine she would produce. As she had red and white grapes she was able to produce everything she needed. We haven't played Vinhos yet but it looks like something we would enjoy. I'll keep an eye out for that one!

Hi John. We also play a lot of Stone Age - it's a great game. I do indeed recommend Viticulture. Like Stone Age, it is a worker placement game, but it does have a few more moving parts that you would have to learn. Still, we find it to be very smooth and lots of fun to play. For the best experience, Viticulture with the Tuscany expansion is amazing. Sometimes in Viticulture you are at the mercy of the randomness of the cards, especially vines and orders, but Tuscany gives you ways to mitigate this. Fulfilling orders usually gives you 1 or 2 residual payment, so you move your marker that far along the residual payment track, and at the end of the year you get lira equal to your location on the residual payment track. Hope this helps!

At 29:00 when the field was harvested, do you have to harvest a total of five red, or could you have done 1 + 4 ?
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan. When you harvest a field, you must take the total value of all the reds to make 1 red grape, and the total value of all the whites to make 1 white grape. So in this case, we could not have done the 1 + 4. Hope this helps!

Question...At 6:25 you placed your Grande worker on Build a Structure. However, I thought you could only use the first of the 3 yellow spaces in a 2-player game. Am I correct, or is the Grande worker exempt from that rule? Thanks.

Hi Nicholas. You are correct that you can only use the first of the yellow spaces in a 2-player game, but the Grande worker is the exception and he can always take actions even if there is another player on the space.

I'm going to point out a mistake that Pat made at 38:50. When he was getting victory points for fulfilling an order with the marketer, he forgot to include the extra victory point earned from the marketer. So, at that point, he should have had 11 victory points, and at the end of the game, his final score should have been 12 victory points. I wanted to point that out, in case you forgot to notice while editing the video. Otherwise, nice gameplay video for the week. I hope that you'll able to get Clank up on the channel sooner rather then later, since I would love to see how you do against the game timer itself as a feature. Also to ask, what did you like about the game Viticulture while playing it for this video? As for me, I tried some worker placement games myself in the game, the first being Dune: Imperium, and some other tactics board game, and I have some trobule getting used to them since I have to remember where my workers are all the time.

Good spot Daniel. I did indeed forget to get my bonus point at 38:50, though it wouldn't have made much of a difference in the end. Clank will indeed be coming soon, so we hope you enjoy that one when it comes out. As for what we like, well, I actually really enjoyed the game. First of all the components are lovely and like all Stonemaier games, had a really nice feel to them. The theme of the game is also very well done. We did feel as if we were running a winery, and the process of planting fields, harvesting them and turning them to wine is very relaxed and pleasant. I really liked the aging process too of both the wine and the grapes. It's nice to know that if you have grapes, they can still be aging away before you get your medium and large cellars and when you build those structures you can then make the higher value wines from the higher value grapes. One thing I didn't like was the luck element - this game is a race and you need to get your engine set up very quickly. In the game we played for the video, it was a bit frustrating that I could not get any white grapes even though I drew a lot of vine cards. It would have been nice to have a white grape and a red grape deck maybe. While I was wasting time Glai was setting up a nice engine and getting far ahead of me. Her strategy was really good, and I think she would have won anyway but that did frustrate me a bit. Overall though, I like the game.

@@AllAboardBoardgames Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry about the problems you were having with that vine deck. It seems that whoever shuffled them must have put a lot of red vines card on the. You might have had it worse if all the vine cards you got were red throughout the game, and I read the other comments about ideas the designers could have done to help with the problem. And that's the problem with cards as well. Since the decks are always shuffled before the game, you don't know what to expect, and that can help one person win more easily during the game. I can't tell, though, if drawing cards are almost as bad as rolling dice for resources. Anyway, the video was great. Hopefully, you'll be able to put Clank up sometime during the summer, if you're able to film a video of it during that time. In addition, I look forward to whatever other board games you bring to the channel in the future. And Congrats Gil for me for the win on the game. And don't feel bad on losing either. I remember that Gil has the same problems in Race for the Galaxy where she couldn't get any worlds that gained military power, and that's what really slowed her down during that game. Hopefully, whenever you play your next card game, you'll have better luck next time. Maybe as a thought, you should really shuffle each deck well in piles or something so that there's a better chance of the cards being evenly spread out in the deck.

@@danielschaublin Haha... the cards were well shuffled but unfortunately all the red cards came together for me. The randomness is like dice - there is no way to predict what you are going to get. Glai did indeed have the same problem in Race for the Galaxy. Glad you liked the video. Clank will be coming very soon so keep an eye out for that! :)

At 20:19 Glai receives 1 lira, why is that?
@AllAboardBoardgames
@AllAboardBoardgames Жыл бұрын
At 19:27, Glai completes an order which gives her 3VP and 1 residual payment. Residual payment is income which is tracked at the bottom right of the board. During the Year End, players get their residual payments, and so Glai picked up 1 lira for that. Hope this helps!

You guys have great playing chemistry. Are you married? Did you like this game? It seems like a nice game to play when you don't feel like playing something heavy.

Hi Mrs. Jackson! No, Glai and I are not married yet but things are going very well between us. :) Clank is a nice enough game. It is pretty light so if you are not in the mood for a heavy game it can be fun. Having said that, there are a lot of other quick, light games that I would choose ahead of it such as The Quest for El Dorado or Marvel Splendor. Still, we did have fun playing it!

@@djackson920 Ah! Sorry, I got the wrong video! Haha... Yes, Viticulture is great. We really like this one and it is very laid back and relaxed. It is a lot of fun going through the process of making wine from vines to cellar. I would certainly recommend it as a lighter game, especially if you just want to chill out after playing something big and heavy, or on those evenings when you are tired and don't want to go too hardcore but just feel like playing something nice. There is still plenty of strategy in there to keep it interesting! We have been told that the Tuscany expansion makes it even better so we will feature that some time in the next couple of months too.
