The complete concerto, "La Primavera" (Spring), from the Four Seasons. Voices of Music, Alana Youssefian, baroque violin. The concerto is here presented in 4K, ultra high definition video, performed on original instruments from the time of Vivaldi.

For this video, a new edition was prepared from the original sources, prints and manuscripts for Vivaldi's music. In preparing this performing edition, we made the musicological decision that the indication for mutes in the Allegro ("con Sordine") for the violins is misplaced in the original print (there is no indication in the Manchester part books), and the mutes should be in the Largo (and, importantly, not in the final movement). The mutes now provide a textural fence between the violas and the soloist. Vivaldi writes that the last movement is a rustic dance to the sound of bagpipes (“Zampogna”). So we also listened to some old style Italian bagpipes and added a few notes to the drones in Vivaldi's bass part to recreate this brilliant and special sound. Here is our new version, with the muted violins in the slow movement, and the vibrant, un-muted final allegro.
Ms Youssefian plays a baroque violin by Jason Viseltear, 2016, after Carlo Giuseppe Testore, Milan, at the sign of the eagle.

I have been listening to this beautiful performance with my now 11 months old son since the start of spring and wish I could describe the smile on his face when the music comes on! It’s the right length for him to enjoy. We have played enough times for him to recognize when it’s the pause and not the end. Rest assured, in the end he claps with shouts of Bavo bavo (bravo!) thank you for the beautiful performance! ❤ pro tip for parents- start playing Vivaldi as per the season for your child and in one year, your child will be able to recognize Vivaldi four seasons!

You just feel the complete synchronicity with the whole ensemble, and she just drives the tunes with her performance;. There are once in a lifetime synchronicity events like that. This is my favorite Vivaldi performance of Vivaldi Four Seasons yet. They its not just tje sound but how this magnificent ladies and gentlemen flow with the music. It's amazing!

I would say rediscovered rather than new. This is the playfulness and performative force that was removed from "classical" music during the actual classical period and is only now being rediscovered when musicians stop playing baroque like classical pieces.

I can't imagine the joy on Vivaldi's face if he got to hear this performance of his work. Bach was a big fan of Vivaldi and was deeply influenced by his concertos and arias. In my mind there could be no greater praise as a musician and/or composer than to have Bach himself compliment your work.

I have heard a lot of performances of this both live and recorded, and have played the viola part in concert, but honestly I've never heard it played this well. Not only is the soloist perfect and virtuosic, but the members of this orchestra are perfect too... not just in their musicianship, but in every other facet of their playing too. You can tell by watching them that it's a passion and fun all rolled into one, which is what music making should be!

Wow, if i may just say something, your baroque violins are PHENOMENAL. The sound, the reverb of the violins is just, astonishing how good it sounds. It sounds so unique, so original, so natural and so emotional. Seems modern day violins (besides the really nice ones), just lack that quality sound. I've been playing the violin for 15 years, and man i really want to play one of these baroque violins!!!

Signora Alana, lei è veramente una virtuosa del violino, c’è nel suono, tutto la sua anima, si vede come nasce dal suo interiore quella passione che c’ì fa commuovere fino alle lacrime, veramente un “BRAVO” di cuore, io ve lo dico, che sono nato nella città di Cremona, culla dei più famosi violìni.!!!!

This is ear candy, it's so great! Thank you for posting this. Incredible orchestra and the lead violinist is amazing! Never enjoyed this piece so much as I did this performance.
