I've heard a cello version of this piece many many times, and I had no idea it was actually a lute concerto! It's really interesting hearing all the different ornamentation that the lute brings to the piece. The lute is equally as beautiful as the cello! Fantastic performance Brandon!

I've mostly only heard very spare, nearly un-adorned interpretations of this famous concerto before, which also have their charms, but man what a difference a little improv makes. It's like listening to this piece with fresh ears. Bravo!

That was absolutely wonderful ! Although I have a classical guitar degree and I'm about start my journey as a classical guitar teacher soon my experience as a live performer and youtuber (besides the concerts that were organized by the conservatories I did my studies) mostly revolves around acoustic Rock and Metal songs played in a fingerstyle-classical kind of way. Your uploads inspired me to want to do a chamber music concert with classical,romantic and baroque pieces,mostly guitar and voice sometime in the future. What you do is inspiring me a lot Brandon. Thank you and keep up the amazing work !!

My favourite Vivaldi Lute composition, sounds fantastic on the lute after only really hearing it played on the (inferior to me) modern guitar. Such tone and depth beats the guitar no matter which maestro is playing. Thank you for making my evening so much better.

I was in the chorus behind him for the rest of the program. Brandon probably can’t post the WHOLE concerto here because the Music of the Baroque is making the entire concert available via streaming (at least it’s available until Nov 20, 2023). Check his written commentary, there’s a link if you want to pay to see it. I’m guessing Brandon had permission only to post this movement, but he definitely played the whole thing in the concert! I’m so happy to see this video now since sitting back in the chorus it was a little tricky to hear the balance!

@@Duende70 It has a microphone directly on it, rather than being amplified, though I am assuming that this is what you meant. Regardless, what I mean to say - is that you can hear that reverb in the mix of the other instruments, even in this live recording setup, which is impressive for an instrument that usually takes a background role.

Very nice performance, Brandon. The timbre of that lute works so well with the sparse string/continuo ensemble (all of whom played flawlessly). Do the lower strings on the lute contribute to the richness of the harmony by their sympathetic vibrations?

Please I would love to hear your take on Tarrega's Study in E Minor. It's not as complex a piece as you are capable of, but It has a decent amount of room for flourish and tempo control. You have been a huge inspiration and it's my favorite classical string piece BY FAR. Regardless, I love everything you have done for us. I used to be intimated, now thanks to you and Rob and others I am beginning to take music seriously. ❤

Brandon, is it strange to you that you got to become a rockstar by playing the lute instead of metal like you started? It must have been like “I’ll never be a rockstar, I’m gonna play around with these strange historical instruments instead”..

Pity about all the ornaments. It’s a stand alone piece that people prefer to hear without the personalization. When you go to hear Beethoven, does the pianist add lots of ornaments? You’re brilliant, but with music like this, excessive flourishing is like smearing Catsup on filet mignon.
@brandonacker
@brandonacker 9 ай бұрын
Ah my friend, style matters. To only play the notes on the page would be as silly as literally playing what is written in a jazz fake book. It is a known fact that in the baroque style it was considered obligatory to embellish what is written (especially in a largo movement like this one). So in fact, I'm doing what the composer assumed a person of good taste would do. Your ideas stem from much later classical styles where improvisation was less prevalent. Style matters.
