Vivian was always my favorite guitar player. Seen him recently at a show here in CT. Felt like I was 15 again because I had front row at the rail. Lol. When I first saw him he was with Dio and I believe they played with Twisted Sister. All the boys use to hop in cars/or my friends father Ford van and cruise to New Haven Or Hartford to see the bands. Seen Ozzy and Metallica and Jake E Lee was great also. Prior seen Oz with Brad Gillis which is another great one. A lot of great guitarists came out in the late 70’s and early 80’s ... EVH was blowing up stages with Dave .. Teddy Nugent played real loud!! So glad I was able to see the greats when they first came out. Always a Richie Blackmore fan ...

I wish Viv would start playing with a Floyd again, he was one of only a handful of guitarists who really had a unique and creative way of using it, the Riverdogs album was the apex of Vivian's more fluid style as he is playing here. Come on Viv, you don't have to use a Les Paul ALL the time! :)

@@arigreen5845 I was a teenager in the 80s and I certainly would go back! So many genres were bursting into life back then, and there was so much energy, fun and experimentation. Every since the 80s it has been mostly a derivative or a sideways step IMHO, e.g. just more technical, faster, heavier etc but not NEW. Some people like to knock the 80s and call it "cheesy" but they forget that every decade was and is the same in that regard. The 80s had both the brilliant and the awful, same as any other era. However the current era in 2023 seems devoid of any genuinely inspired innovation or songwriting craft. They musicians out there are approaching writing from a mechanical and technological mindset. Perhaps most genres have run their course, and its time for people to step up and invent new ones?

What are you talking about? There is not a lead guitarist in Def Leppard, there never was… If anything, Steve Clark was the lead guitarist… And that is who Vivian Campbell plays and replaced… They are a guitar harmonizing band and always were whether it was Steve Clark and Pete Willis or Steve Clark and PC or now Vivian Campbell and PC just like they are a vocal harmonizing band… as such, Vivian Campbell plays the solos on Lovebites, the outro to women which they don’t play very much, rocket is a dual solo, he plays the solo to wasted which they hardly ever play… Let it go at least one of them, Saturday night high and dry at least one of them, too late for love which they don’t play very much… Armageddon it, bringing on the heartbreak, switch 625 is a dual harmonizing guitar peace… Hysteria is a dual harmonizing solo… On the other hand PC plays the solos on the album for rock of ages, photograph, foolin, rock rock….Which means naturally that PC is going to play those solos live…
@whip689
@whip689 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeystarr1203 Vivian can play circles around PC, he just fills SC's role...so yes PC gets more solos in this band. Pete Willis was a lead guitarist, not just a "Harmonizer". The leads on all those early albums are better than anything since his release.

@@whip689 it’s not a competition. Every guitarist the band has ever had was both lead and rhythm. There’s even interviews where Joe Elliott introduces Vivian Campbell as lead guitarist… And then Co lead guitarist… PC plays the solos the PC played on the albums… Vivian Campbell plays the solos that Steve Clark played on the albums… They split the solos from Pete Willis… When they play live, they play most of their hits… Coincidentally most of their kids have PC playing the solos on the album recordings… So PC He’s going to play PC solos live… Vivian Campbell is going to play Steve Clark solos live… PC is not THE Lead guitarist… Vivian Campbell is not THE Rhythm guitarist… They actually play about the same percentage of solos live… It’s just a PC takes center stage shirtless in the spotlight for his solos thinking he’s some kind of virtual so… Vivian Campbell plays his solos in his corner of the stage perhaps because it’s too easy for him… Or perhaps because he had a hip replacement years ago… Or perhaps because he’s battling cancer for the last 10 years… Vivian is also a better singer, Steve Clark didn’t do much singing… Vivian Campbell always wanted to sing in the first place, and now he gets to do that… So he actually strengthened the bands vocal harmonies…That’s one of the reasons they hired Vivian Campbell because he’s a good singer… then you also have to realize that Joe Elliott and Rick savage decided many years ago did they did not want to be a hard rock band but more of a pop band… And by the time Vivian Campbell joined, the whole guitar hero thing was over with and outdated… But during the first two years of Vivian Campbell with Def Leppard 1992 in 1993, they each played about a 10 minute guitar solo in between songs…Now, neither one of them has their own solo spotlight in between songs… They are both co lead and Co rhythm guitar players in this band… And that’s the way Def Leppard has always been

@@vintagev8muscle721 The blue BC rich strat. Yeah that was kind of a weird lesson. The guitar had no fretboard markers, which I thought was very unsporting haha. I picked some vibrato techniques, "Split harmonics. Very effective little things, but not when you do them like that." :D And starting with an upstroke. The person I lived with kept saying he was the boy next door. I was like, "Will you stop ruining every musician I enjoy by telling me how attracted you are to them?" haha!

Wow you can never have enough effects. Now you can get that in one rack lol and save on electricity

Yeah, the entire rack with a Line 6 Helix, or a Quad Cortex. Plus, to my ears and fingers these two processors sound really amazing compared to the equipment in the 80s. I don't mean the 80's equipment sound bad. I'm just saying I really enjoy this two processors above a load of equipment.

Saying he was promised album sales and royalties in Dio by the Sacred Heart album and was only getting paid by touring never getting what he deserved and Dio supposedly never lived up to that promise yet he's driving a Ferrari in Malibu getting no royalties in Whitesanke only being a touring artist LMFAO!!!

@@80sRocker Well Vivian was acting like he wasn't making anything and obviously wanted more and can kinda see where he was coming from being the majority song writer but the other members stayed in band after being made the same "verbal promise" so there had to be an ego thing going on also.

@@BBOZ83 it was a steady paycheck that's why the other members stayed they didn't speak up also After the sacred heart tour they got tossed during the song writing sessions for lock up the wolves and I'm sure they got tossed because Wendy and Ronnie didn't want Vinnie and Jimmy asking for the same amount of money that Vivian was so he started with a completely new band add up the puzzle pieces it will make a lot of sense
