----------LYRICS--------------
Many many years ago, when Persia came ashore
Heeding Leonidas' call the Spartans went to war
Joined by their brothers, a few against the fateful horde
Hellenic hearts are set aflame, the hot gates calls their name
A final stand, stop the Persians, spear in hand
Form a wall, live to fall, and live forever
Sparta! Hellas!
Then, and again, sing of three hundred men
Slaughter! Persians!
Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender
Morning has broken, today they're fighting in the shade
When arrows blocked the sun they fell, tonight they dine in hell
By traitor's hand, secret passage, to their land
Know his name, know his shame will last forever
Sparta! Hellas!
Then, and again, sing of three hundred men
Slaughter! Persians!
Glory and death, Spartans will never surrender

Fun Fact: When Leonidas told his greek allies they could leave, the Thespians and the Thebans refused and died with the Spartans.

@@nuk3407 At the beginning of the battle, the Greek forces numbered around 8,000. In the battle, they would swap who was guarding the pass e.g the thebans would guard it then swap out with the Spartans. The greeks had ranged units as well such as slingers and javelin- wealding skirmishers. Most of these were helots (spartan slaves). They held of the Persian army for 2 days during which they endured wave after wave of assaults. Then on the end of the second day, Ephialtes the Shepherd (not a hunchback) told Xerxes of the goat path. He sent a force of 20,000 men to encircle the greeks. The 1,000 Phocians guarding the pass didn't surrender but withdrew to a hill. The Persians shot a volley of arrows and ignored them. Upon hearing this Leonidas called a council of war. He asked his allies to leave, many did, but the 700 Thespians, 400 thebans and 900 helots stayed. They marched out into the open field to make their stand.

basicaly only 700 Thespians refused to leave . Leonidas held the Thebes without their will, as hostages, to die in battle because the city of Thebes took the side of the Persians. something like punishment.

Nuk It was called 300 due to the spartans were positioned to make them look like a weak force of only 300 while in reality there was more than thousands behind them the spartans fell due to the secret passage that was defended by another greece force fleeining from battle after seeing the ammount of people

@@dolfyhilter577 the world we live in today would have been vastly different if the Persians had conquered Greece. Do you think they'd stop there? No, as you say they would march through the nomadic tribes and conquer the entirety of Europe, creating a vastly different world. You are like a child that is unable to see how everything is interconnected with each other. Read history. However good point that Greeks cared about their own country and couldn't give two shits about the "barbaric" tribes of Europe. Which wasn't even a country, just a bunch of Hellenic Tribes with their own city states, hating on each other and pointing fingers while thinking that "they" (be they spartans, athenians, corinthians, macedonians etc etc) where the OG Greeks. -Source: I'm Greek.

The Fall of Constantinople should have been a song in this album
@k9thexv630
@k9thexv630 7 жыл бұрын
How exactly would that trigger them? Conquering a city through violence, while being an impressive military feat for anyone fascinated with warfare, isn't exactly something to be proud of from a morally ethical standpoint. You can't really claim that a hypothetical song about the Fall of Constantinople would persecute Turks or Muslims because at the end of the day, conquering foreign land and then proceeding to treat the natives like shit is just another form of persecution. An act which every empire in history has done, of which the Ottomans are no exception. Then again, we're talking about a religion whose followers are willing to kill cartoonists for depicting their prophet in unflattering ways, let alone at all, so maybe I shouldn't expect the sensibilities of fundamentalist muslims to make any coherent sense whatsoever.
@Proud2bGreek1
@Proud2bGreek1 7 жыл бұрын
K9theXV I'd think if Sabaton made a song about the fall of Constantinople it'd be a song praising the bravery of the defenders and the betrayal from western Christianity, not the thirst of the sultan to conquer the "city of cities". So for that reason I don't think it would be a song that would be congratulatory towards the Turks for being so many and rich that they managed to take the city.
@Proud2bGreek1
@Proud2bGreek1 7 жыл бұрын
Iordáin Breathnach Well it wasn't Roman but Greek and the only volunteers helping defend the city were 2000 Genoese and Venetians. The rest of Christendom were eager to see their fellow Christians fall thinking if that happened they'd be sage from the Islamic threat. Little did they know...
@iordainbreathnach5852
@iordainbreathnach5852 7 жыл бұрын
***** Well the people of the Eastern Roman Empire continued to refer to themselves as Romaioi right up until the end and even for sometime afterwards. The Fall of Constantinople was the final collapse of the Roman state even though the only people left that were citizens of the Empire were Greeks. I do know that western help was pitiful but the volunteers that did arrive to fight to the last for the eastern bulwark of Christendom deserve to be remembered too
@Proud2bGreek1
@Proud2bGreek1 7 жыл бұрын
Iordáin Breathnach The people of the Byzantine empire as historians call it today because it was called the Roman empire by its citizens but it was known as the "empire of the Greeks" by western europeans, was in fact populated mostly by Greeks but all its citizens spoke the Greek language. The Byzantines referred to themselves as "Romioi" deriving from the term Roman but meaning Christian Greek. They didn't like the term "Hellene" which is how we Greeks refer to ourselves today but also in pre Roman times, because it was associated with the pagan religion of the ancient Greeks. As for the few Italian volunteers, they are remembered in our history books and respected as brothers in arms against the massive invasion of Muslims but the fact is that there was no help from the west, mostly backstabbings.

@@saeedvazirian not necessarily. If your soldier can't perform his duty, then he's useless. If you were in the armed forces and you were unfit to serve, you would be denied service. That's why you get discharged after a certain age. If the armed forces used your logic of 'an extra fighter is never useless', they wouldn't have a minimum age requirement for enlistment, which they do. You have to be at least a certain age in order to serve. While he was denied for his disability, it's because his disability hindered his ability to be an effective soldier. If a twelve year old was to enlist, they would be denied service because they would be ineffective. If someone who didn't have any medical training applied to be a nurse, they would be denied because they would be ineffective. If someone who had a disability, more specifically a deformity that impeded their ability to be an effective soldier, they would be denied the ability to fight.

what Leonidas did to the Persians is the same that the former british army major Kolokotronis did to the Turks in 1800s and the same that the Greeks did in WW2 to Italy. They challenged on equal footing, an indisputed unchallenged God-like power of their era, while every other nation fled or kneeled. Its not about heroism. Its all about heart. Its the fiery faith that feeds their little hearts down there. Thus boys have no fear in your every day lifes. @Junde14
@Junde14 4 жыл бұрын
@Rοsαlίe Then you haven't done your research. All of Europe used to be Nordic, by nordic i also mean "Nordic looking". The nordic features are recessive and thus started to dissapear first in southern Europe due to Non-European admixture from Middle-east and Africa. All native and unmixed Europeans were nordic. Ancient Greek words for hues of blond: Xanthos=light blond xouthos=dark blond pyrrhus=reddish blond polios=straw blond, greyish chloros=dirty blond eychomos=blond hair in general melichloros=light honey blond Even the the words melas probably had the initial meaning of dark yellow like seasoned honey, but later the Ionians (the most mixed and urbanized of the Hellenes) gave it the meaning "dark". The abundance of Hellenic words for shades of blondhair proves what the original phenotype was. Do i even need to talk about the Greek pagan gods which are described as blond? Of course the pagan gods are not physical but personifications of mother nature. ie. Zeus is equilevant of the norse Odin. Odin=mind, memory Odin is the sum of all of your forebears etc.
@Junde14
@Junde14 4 жыл бұрын
@Rοsαlίe Lol they're pretty funny. I recommend reading Cornelius Tacitus, he also mentioned that ancient Rome was blond (Nordic) but started to transform to dark due to non-European admixture. During his time, most people were already mixed, but the nobles were still nordic. ie. Nero who had golden hair and blue eyes (Wonder why he is so blackmailed today) gee.

Probably the most famous last stand in western history. Simply epic, and perhaps critical in saving western civilization as we know it (though definitely not as much as the battle of Salamis).

I am a Turk. God knows why but i like Greek-Serbian brothership. I wish we were included in this brothership. But it seems impossible. Unfortunately both side hate each other due to historical reasons. Maybe even you hate me just because i am a Turk, maybe you don't hate. I don't know.

Kül Tigin don’t worry bro I don’t hate you at all bro the thing is though I don’t hate Turkish people as individuals I dislike the government. I have known a few Turkish people who chill people the problem for me is the state turkey and the history that the collective of the country has done. But I don’t hate/dislike individuals (at least when they are good people) and you seem like a chill and respectful dude. Also as much as turkey has done to my country I still respect it because they did have one of the mightiest empires in existence.
