Out of nostalgia I just searched for this track… and well here I am, transported right back to the time I had Goosebumps and tears in my eyes, hoping humanity will survive this battle, cheering on Rick and being sad in letting Minmay go. Happy that he rescued Lisa, and happy and awe to see the battle damaged SDF 1 descend from the clouds in all its glory as the sun rises. Beautiful. Tears 😊

Absolutely the same for me. Robotech and Star Blazers were my childhood, but this scene from Robotech still gives me goosebumps. I remember being awed by that moment of Rick unleashing everything he has, and moved by seeing friend and foe fighting along side. The sight of that soldier and kid on earth dying has been burned into my brain since childhood (so glad they didn't cut that). To this day, despite advances in animation and live-action effects, I find this one of the most epic battle scenes in anything, partly due to nostalgia I'm sure, but also because of the story and character work for the series it served as the culmination to.

Yeah, seriously. This whole little montage is so damn good. I also get goosebumps. I think a lot of it had to do with the timing. It basically happens during a very climactic point in the series, where everyone's giving all they've got and it's not just like minor skirmishes in various locations. However, it's not technically the 'Last Battle' of the series as this video title implies, but I won't spoil that since it helps to segue into the following season that takes place many years later. This moment is also purposely made to be sort of shocking when Minmei and Kyle kiss, not only because they are cousins, but also since the Zentradi haven't seen any direct displays of affection and it startles a society that has never known anything but war. The battle also technically causes some of the most heavy casualties to Zentradi forces as well, as it's one of the few fights that directly impacts their mothership and battle cruisers. And all that aside, pretty excellent localization too and it's very memorable. It's really brilliant writing for a series, and Robotech has only gotten better as I've gotten older and can fully appreciate all the thoughtful dialogue and complex situations that the series dives into, like several deaths and how deeply they impact people, a love triangle, the consequences of deep and bitter jealousy, enemies getting to know and love each other, and so much more.

You're talking about 2 very different anime products. The love song, Do You Remember Love was from the Macross movie, Macross Super Dimensional Fortress: Do You Remember Love, that they made as a re-imaging of the original Japanese Macross series. The Macross series itself did not have the love song nor any real key song for that matter. That came later in the movie. This song, We Will Win, sung by Reba West, is from the Robotech series that was made by combining the Macross series with 2 other similar anime series.

Vagabond1997 I wasn't talking about "Do You Remember Love?" .. I meant the original japanese version of Superdimensional Fortress Macross, which is what the first third of Robotech was based on. I was comparing "We Will Win" with "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" (which is very much a love song, not a battle song).

I think you are getting the movie version DYRL confused with Robotech. The movie version, DYRL, was a re-imaging or reboot of the original SDF Macross series, not Robotech. Also Mari Iijima was not available when the went to make Robotech so they got Reba West instead because her voice sounded somewhat like Mari Iijima. Robotech itself was created by combining it with 2 other similar animes that were "sanitized" for the American market. As Robotech, it was also long enough to meet the American broadcast networks requirements and well as the "censorship" requirements to be broadcast in prime time slots where kids could see it.
