By way of subtitles) Hope that helps: The recordings of Sofronitskiy's concerts are a passionate message for us. An apartment in Vasilievskiy ostrov, StPeterburg. That's the place where Sofronitskiy used to live and which he loved to revisit. There are paintings by old artists, including Borovikovskiy, his great-grandfather. Chopin, Nocturne Chopin, Mazurka. Pushkin's world was very close to the musician's world. Sofronitskiy loved poetry and recited poems remarkably well. Schubert-Lisczt. The Miller and the Stream. During the winter of 1941 Sofronitskiy stayed in Leningrad. He said back then that he felt a special need to play for the public. "In Leningrad every street, every house, every bit of land is dear to me. In Leningrad I was born, studied in the Conservatoire. In Leningrad I gave my first solo concert. It was in 1920. And finally, in embittered, stern and dark Leningrad I gave the concert which is hard to forget. It was 3 degrees below freezing in the hall of the Pushkin theatre. The listeners, the city's defenders, had fur-coats on. Yet, how they listened to me! and what it felt like playing!" Throughout his life Sofronitsky retained his love for Schumann and Chopin, Block and Pushkin. And, of course, his love for Skriabin. The Museum Apartment of Skriabin in Moscow, where Sofronitskiy loved to play. "From my youth throughout my entire life and to my last days shall I joyfully carry my love for him - a sincere, immutable and unyielding love." The last concert of the great pianist took place here, in Skriabin Museum on the 6th of January 1961. On that evening here, in Skriabin's study, the lamp was on, lighting the keys of the grand piano. The door opened, and Sofronitsky, serious and focused, walked in. A few minutes of alert silence - and his hands lay down on the keys. Scriabin, Prelude. Skriabin, Etude.
