Part 10: • Van Lathan: TMZ is Not...
Part 8: • Van Lathan on Confront...
Part 1: • Van Lathan on Growing ...
--------
In the latest clip, Van Lathan discussed the incident that resulted in his departure from TMZ. Lathan explained that the incident started when was asked to discuss a segment about Ellen DeGeneres hanging out with George Bush despite his personal reasons for not wanting to. During the segment, co-worker Michael Babcock kept talking over him, causing him to walk off. Before exiting, Lathan approached Babcock from behind, put his hands around his shoulders, and whispered in his ear. While that part of the segment wasn't aired, screenshots made it appear as if he were choking Babcock. Lathan added that Babcock was his closest friend at TMZ and the two continue to maintain a friendship. However, it was Lathan's final remark that resulted in the incident being his last time at TMZ's offices.
In the latest clip, Van Lathan continued to discuss the incident that led to his firing from TMZ. He said he didn't think the incident was a big deal until the company's attorneys and human resources contacted him. He also said Michael Babcock called him crying after learning Van was being punished and claimed to Van that he was sticking up for him. Van also pondered whether Page Six's story exposing his firing came from TMZ or one of his former co-workers. He added that he's been in contact with everyone from the company exept TMZ founder Harvey Levin. Van also claimed his firing came after informing TMZ that he wasn't returning once his contract was up.

Correct. You need to keep a journal. If something is going on. Especially with big corporations. And Especially if you are a woman or a minority. Speaking from experience. Human resources work for the corporations. You have to have a strong case. And sometimes a lawyer that is not afraid of them.

That’s 100% correct! Even some have lost their job, because they may have innocently put their hands on someone’s shoulder. I got in trouble because a coworker said he had cancer, and said nobody cared. I felt sorry for him and asked if he wanted to speak to someone who went through some similar things, and they successfully dealt with it! He said yes, so I later emailed him the phone number. He told HR that I was harassing him. After that, I kept my distance with no touching, helping, or palling around with coworkers! 👎🏽😐

I believe Mike agreed with the claims but hid his hand with Van to avoid confrontation.

They don’t care about us blacks period. From being in the Army to civilian jobs, people only care about themself and people are still for sure racist and prejudice. Somehow someone Always think we’re a threat and “scared”. When you have a guy as genuine as this; I hope Mike gets his ass beat fasho. He’s still getting paid for being a bitch and even letting this happen. If that was his friend, then……..How do you get a man fired, then go to his “you’re fired” party😂 then you wonder why dudes come back and shoot the whole place up. I respect van and his composure💯

Bruh don’t let yourself fall into your feelings and emotions so deep that you forget that there’s such things called common sense and logic. Yes prejudiced people are still prevalent. Not just white people but all peoples. Blacks, Asians, Mexicans, and so on are prejudiced too. In fact, the most “racist” remarks I’ve heard from a single race is hands down from the black race. The fact that you have enough hate in your heart to wish harm on the other man proves that you yourself are a hater and most definitely a racist too. Of course you will beg to differ but you already showed your hand from your comment you posted.

@Jeff Andon Maybe the company you work for has different rules and procedures. HR has to go to the person affected because somebody seeing an altercation and reporting it, when the person affected not reporting it, can be taken out of context. Ex: Myself and a Co-worker (friend) skylarking or involved in friendly roasting on the job and another co-worker sees our interaction and reports it to HR. HR CAN NOT go off what the reporting co-working says then take action. They have to confirm the altercation with the co-worker that has been harmed, assaulted, abused, etc., before taking action. That is grounds for a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Van, you're so called buddy Mike, set you up! Clearly, everyone, including Harvey, Charles and all their followers saw your potential and how outspoken you were on the show, you're wisdom and opinions were solid! You contributed so much to TMZ, and it was telling that it made Harvey abd Charles very uncomfortable, especially when you disagreed with Kayne on one of his ridiculous rants! Harvey doesn't have a backnone, Charles always calls Harvey out while Van was employed, and continues to correct him in 2021! I stopped watching TMZ....after Van left, interesting how swiftly HR and attorneys expedited his dismissal! Mike is traitor, lesson learned, no one is your friend in the workplace! It's intresting how Harvey and Charles didn't advocate for him! Van is a born leader, he's much better on his own. Wishing you continued success Van, you're doing amazing away from a that toxic environment! Peace!✌

My opinion, he played himself. Not only him but many others. I work for HR. What people don't understand is you should Never be too "comfortable " with anyone or any position on a job. Leave Personal Relationships At Home. Some say Race has alot to do with it ( I'm not naieve) there are times that it does but believe me you'd be surprised that Black people under mind each other too if not even more than other races " undermine" us. On a job there should be a personal line drawn with your superiors and other coworkers. I don't care if you work for a Fortune 500 company or a car wash. There are supposed to be boundaries if you don't want any problems because sooner or later someone is going to be offended. Something misinterpreted, someone feeling violated, no real meeting of the minds will cause Huge problems. Just my opinion.

Mike is like keep your friends close but your enemy (Van) closer. Just simple Art of War. No one you work with is your friend ever! Unless they grew up together and they know each other parents and still you gotta be careful. Employment is about self preservation.
