Part 2: • Neil deGrasse Tyson on...
--------
Neil deGrasse Tyson came through for his first-ever VladTV interview, where Vlad started off giving him his flowers for his contribution to the science world. Neil then spoke about being raised in the Bronx by his father, who was the Human Resource Commissioner in the 1960s under Mayor John Lindsay. While speaking about his mother, Neil explained that his mother was a Gerontologist for the federal government. Neil then detailed growing up in the Castle Hill housing projects until they were forced out when his father started making more money. When asked about the Bronx in the 1970s, Neil explained that there was a neighborhood feel, but he added that there were parts that were falling down. Vlad then asked Neil about hip-hop being born in the Bronx in the 1970s, and he explained that since he lived in a different area of the borough, he only learned of it like the rest of the world. Neil added that people were losing their minds over the birth of hip-hop, which you can hear more about above.

Nitpicking the one negative part of the first clip. SMH some people think they get paid being resident vlad haters here. Doubt you would have even took notice of this part if its wasnt for Neil's odd response. It's a legitimate question about his upbringing. The basis of this first clip.

What he said about the Bronx in the real 70s still rings true till about 2013-2016. I grew up in the South part of the bronx (I’m only 20) and i’ve seen buildings literally breaking apart and people living in rat infested basements but nowadays they’ve repairing basically everything from the roads, to the sidewalks and broken homes. I fear gentrification and the increase of cost of living may come as collateral

Leave it up to Vlad to put a magnifying glass on ethnicity. Black/Puerto Rican parents are a very common thing in NYC. Especially in the Bronx. Also, if you really wanna get down to it his parents are from the Caribbean basically. Also in NYC, Puerto Ricans not necessarily speaking a lot of Spanish isn’t a huge thing either. Despite of the reasons. With all that said, I do appreciate Vlad hating him into discussions on race because it is important that certain subjects/topics are brought up for the sake of perspective.

The man who help inspire a great episode of Rick & Morty when Morty's father was convincing the entire population of Pluto that it was a Planet even though industry was breaking the Rock down from the inside. We really came a long way with VladTV.

Neil's parents come from an era where becoming Americanized was more important than maintaining their culture or heritage. Most of The Bronx was burning in the 1970s. The Bronx was a shit hole back then. Hip Hop really jumped off in the early 1980s not the mid 1970s.

The South and West Bronx were burned out. The East and North Bronx were still nice in the 70's. And hip hop jumped off in the South and West Bronx in the 70's. It started to hit everywhere else in the 80's
