Part 6: • Saigon on Fight with P...
Part 4: • Saigon on Doing 6 Year...
Part 1: • Saigon: My Brother Die...
--------
In this clip, Saigon recounted being the first artist Mark Ronson ever signed, although he admits he walked away from the situation prematurely. Saigon then spoke on forging an alliance with Just Blaze which eventually earned him a record deal from Atlantic Records. However, Saigon said that was the worst mistake of his life considering they wanted him to be someone he was actively avoiding becoming. Later, Saigon recounted what sparked his fallout with 50 Cent and how their shared astrological sign may be part of the issue.
He went on to speak about Atlantic holding up his contract for 6 years and not releasing any of his music because it didn't feature the violent and sexual themes they were trying to sell. From there, Saigon spoke about his role on HBO's "Entourage," and he shared a story about nearly dying after being stabbed in NYC.

its all bout the money for majority of the artist, they dont care what they put out or how it sounds and alot of is trash and they know it but if it got a catchy beat and melody thats gonna catch the "youth" that cant truly appreciate GOOD music, they still gonna put it out for the cash

It seems like Papoose and Saigon's careers ran parallel in comparison. They both were red hot in the early 2000's. They both had success with mixtapes. Each rapper possessed street cred. But they also failed to strike while the iron was hot and subsequently their buzzes began to diminish.
@SayberV1
@SayberV1 3 жыл бұрын
I remember waiting for Papoose to drop his Nacerima Dream album in 2006 which was the PERFECT time to release it with his buzz coming out of his mixtapes but it never landed until 7 years later, which at that point was just pointless and the ship had long ago sailed.

We had websites like DatPiff and shit like that to cop MP3's en masse. Fuck, his shit knocked so hard back then. This was circa 2000ish - I can't put an exact year, but I graduated '03. I always checked for his shit randomly throughout the years, but man I never understood why he didn't take off like that. Him, Red Cafe, and Grafh. They were monsters in that era. I had people tell me how cool the name is, ask id I've served in the military because of; I had him in obedience classes, and one day I'd gone to the store and one of the employees who knew us asked, "You have 'Saigon' right?" Interviews with Vlad go: Interviewee: yea man I'm just thankful for my career and where I'm at. Just staying focused on my craft and leaving all the dumb shit behind me. Actually me and Just Blaze have a project coming soon and I'm working on a program for the youth to help disadvantaged kids.. Vlod:....* sigh* yea, so there are rumors You ate a family of 6 who were camping in the woods in 1999. Can yooooooou discuss thaaaaaaaat or speak on any detaaaaaaaails?

Him being too conscious was his downfall. The music was dope overall but he just couldn't balance it right. Plus people wanted to hear the yardfather not someone preaching to them. I found Saigon on that Yardfather mixtape with Kay Slay and that 50 Cent vs Saigon mixtape. That witty street flow is what made him stand out. Then he just switched it up out of nowhere.

I remember Saigon coming out with pain in my life. It was a dope conscious catchy record but I always wondered what happened after that. The record label did him dirty. He was the next big thing .

Sort of reminds me of Ras Kass' situation with his label back then. They hold them hostage, those bastards interfered with these artist's potential for more success. Saigon is dope AF

It’s never worth it. Give yourself the best chances and give it up. If a person is gonna be evil and kill you anyway, then it is what it is. We got families out here.
