Hello friends ,
So in this video i have provided you with the method to access all your multimedia files that are stored in your pc into your smartphone .so far the easiest way i have found to use networking to some advantage to access files throughout the network .
This trick can be used to share files to multiple devices no matter the type of device (computers smartphones).this tutorial shows the vlc local network configuration to access /stream content over the same network on different devices .

it didn't work at first. than later I found that sharing will not work if the PC account is an Microsoft account method! so I changed the account to local account then worked! Windows sucks! thanks for the video

Doesn't work for me,it still demands username and password, I try the one for my microsoft account on pc but that doesn't work either.

I warn you in advance that my English may be incorrect because I have to use an online translator. You need to separate two different passwords, one password to log in to the microsoft account management site, you don't need this password. the second one is what do you use to log in to WINDOWS when you turn on your PC, this password is usually disabled by default, this is what we need. So, if you do not have this password, you should set it in your windows account settings, it should be called something like this: 'Login with account password', (don't forget to write down this password with a pen in your notebook, otherwise you won't be able to use your PC). These login and pass you can use to get access in the VLC app on your smartphone. I hope I was able to help you.

It didn't go quite the same but it's working now. Host PC Windows 10 Enterprise to Apple iOS iPad & iPhone. What's the added step for outside the network and for guest shared media only log in? Not on the same WiFi or from mobile ?

You need to open ports on your router and forward them. I honestly don’t recommend doing this, as if you mess it up you can have security issues.

I would like VLC not to prompt me to enter PC credentials. I use win 7 and I couldn't achieve that.

in the sharing option select everyone instead of owner/user . That will help

I can only share C:/Users. Any other shared folder shows empty

take that back, it works, for clarification, at Connect to Server screen, for SMB authentication username is your computer name, and password can be left empty if you don't have a password set, otherwise it is the password you use to login to said computer.

Your guide worked for years. But now suddenly it stopped working. Maybe after updates it stopped, i don't know. I can open the map in the local network on my android phone, but it says foler is empty. ALso after giving all the required sharing permissions.

you can try adding a SMB server in the VLC browser section. on top right you will have option to add server to favorites. I use SMB option and now and it works like a charm

@@wwaawweee VLC is showing me "The computer (MYPC-PC) you are trying to................ ...... ..... and a password." The username that worked for me is 'MYPC' and the password is the one that I use while turning on my laptop. So if it shows (XXXXX-PC), your username will be XXXXX.

0:28 Why would you turn OFF file sharing?? That makes no sense. I did as you instructed and my PC disappeared from network spots shown in VLC on my Firestick.
