Love your videos!Yeah, the WEST system is quite sensitive on the resin to hardener ratio. If you want to use it, scales are best but metered pumps also work. However, if your shop is cold, the epoxy won't kick properly. It needs to be above 60f (16c) but ideally higher than 70f (21c) to kick. Try warming the area up. For smaller items, a box with an incandescent light bulb works. Another thing to note is that many people develop an allergic reaction to the hardener, so avoid skin contact with the hardener and uncured mixed epoxy.

Get the west systems pumps!! Worth every penny!!! I use to make huge parts and do it all by weight. I spent way too much time on it. Also if you are in a very cold shop you might try the fast set hardener as it might work better. It doesnt work well in the cold. In fact it might not work at all if its too cold. In the composites industry its called PrePreg (Pre-Impregnated with Resin). Its stored in a freezer and then you can bring it out into your normally heated room and it will start to set up.

Epoxies are very VERY sensitive to temperature. If you're wearing that wool hat in your shop for more than just the fashion statement, there's a good chance your epoxies aren't kicking because they're too cold. Consider moving up to a faster hardener if you plan to work in the cold. Cheers!

Laura, Thank you for turning me onto Band of Skulls! Awesome band with hints of 80's rock and a little bit of Blondie mixed in. Yes, i'm 53 and grew up in the 80's. Love the idea of album of the week. And lastly, I'm a huge fan of your work. I wish I could find a metal band saw like yours here in the States, so I can add some metal to my wood work. Keep up the great content and builds and I'll be watching. An older fan. PS I'm on the hunt for ahead set that I can attach my old MP3 to. Not to steal your idea,but its great and I love listen to rock when I'm creating with wood or just restoring and old wood plane.Thanks ~Dolly

If you get the West Systems pumps its a one to one ratio, One pump of the resin to one pump of the hardener! Epoxy resin is not like polyester resin where adding more hardener causes the resin to cure faster. The West Systems is expensive, but its safe to use indoors.

The best thing about west systems is they make pumps that fit on their cans and it's simply a 1-1 ratio. I'm pretty terrible about measuring too but with this system it's a piece of cake. 🍰
@laurakampf

+Brian Prusa ah, alright, i have the pumps...i didn´t know they work like that. SWEEEET!
@reforzar
@reforzar 8 жыл бұрын
+Laura Kampf excellent. Once they are primed, it's just straight up 1-1 doesn't seem like a lot of hardener but works fantastically. I usually use the crystal clear one because I can tint it when I want or leave it clear.
@laurakampf
@laurakampf 8 жыл бұрын
okay, it seems to be a really cool product. can´t wait to get back in the shop tomorrow and get back on that workbench salvage :)
@wesley115777
@wesley115777 8 жыл бұрын
+Brian Prusa To be clear here, you use the pumps at one pump stroke resin to one pump stroke hardener, as the WEST pumps are designed to dispense the materials at the proper ratio. The materials aren't used at a 1:1 ratio but rather, by volume combine three parts resin with one part hardener or by weight use 3.5 parts resin to 1 part hardener.
