Vlog 13: glueing carpet into my DIY campervan conversion and installing the ceiling

An episode in which I attempt to glue Veltrim vehicle carpet onto one of the campervan walls and get very frustrated at how it won't go round double-angled corners without needing to be cut. Unless I'm just an utter numpty of course, which is entirely feasible.
I get glue all over myself and both sides of the carpet so move on to fixing the LED lights into the camper ceiling then I try to screw the ceiling into place only to discover the hole for the vent has mystically moved itself by about 1cm, causing much head-scratching.
If you liked the video and wish to leave me a tip, thank you!

Great video as usual. Very funny stuff. Glad to see you using the excess carpeting to keep your supports from scratching up the ceiling. As for that hole in the ceiling remember: Measure twice, Cut once, then curse & make it fit.

As your van build is something you have no experience of chap I think you’re doing really well particularly as everything is being done outside, no workbench, garage ect because you live on the boat and you’re alone without a second pair of helping hands so don’t be too hard on your self chap

Enjoy your two series immensely. Tip: when joining wire pairs using spade lugs, cut the red leads longer than the black on one end and cut the black longer than the red on the other wire. This staggered arrangement can remove much insulation angst.

Nice job, here are my tips. First get some cutting blades for the vibratory tool, they will make those cuts in tight spaces a lot easier. The other tip is to get some heat shrink tube for your electrical connections going forward, it is easier to use and you will have more confidence on it than you will in tape. Also who are you kidding, your first road trip is going to be to The Crick Boat Show, everyone knows that.

If you do take the van out for a spin before it's complete, I look forward to that vlog as well. Doug

It helps if you offset the spade terminals - cut one wire a centimetre shorter, then the other wire on the other side of the joint. Touching is much less likely that way. Electrical tape tends to peel off over time so in a year or two you might get a mysterious short... Or use heat-shrink tubing, just don't heat it, leave it loose so you can still unplug if you need to.
@Vandemonium

David, I realise that I am only about two years or so behind and so I expect that your frustrations are now over, but I soooo feel for you - in fact I feel like I should apologise, for some strange reason, that you had such a tough time with it. I have been where you are and totally feel your pain in fact I’m off to flagellate myself with a broken birch twig right now, so that I can really empathise with you. I subscribe to a lot of channels, but I enjoy yours the most. Your temperament and presentation are warming and refreshing; I love it. If I was to invite ten people to dinner, you would be on the list. Whether you would accept the invite of course, is a different matter, but you get the idea I’m sure. Very good progress, looking well as they say. (:> A tip for you: On the off chance you did have to take down the ply ceiling and you were worried about, as you mentioned, striping out the wood whenever you remove the screws. Get some Fireside Matches, they are longer & thicker than ordinary matches, and feed one or two into the holes you have removed the screws from to fill up the hole, break off the excess length etc. That will add back some grip for the screws when you are putting the ply back on. (;> Have a good one. Rgds, BG

Bless your heart. I'm so sorry you've had a bad time with the carpet, light holes, & that bloody fan. I wish I could afford to come over to your country & help hold something in place for you. Watching you struggle with that stuff reminded me of when my Dad built out our van. It was a cool set up, but our van was much larger, full sized. Then when we built our houseboat when I was around 12 yrs old. I've done a lot of holding & handing tools to my Dad. And if I wasn't a step ahead of him I got the old hand upside my head. You learn quickly to move fast. Bc he was a big man & thoughts hits hurt like crazy. I know 1st hand it's not easy doing things by yourself. Well to me your doing great.
