This "Split the Difference" aiming system was created by "Little Mike".
This aiming system makes it very simple for beginners and mediocre players. I wish I learned this system in the beginning.
Very accurate!!!
Try it out and let me know what you think in the comment section.
Also check out the Training in Session series. Those videos goes into more depth about the Splitting the Difference aiming system.

I've been using this method for over a year now and it has improved my game immensely. Three of my buddies and I get together 2 or 3 times a month to play and we all started out about equal but since I learned and practiced this aiming method I have improved my game past their levels -- but recently I discovered another HUGE advantage that this method has given me. I have started to use this system when shooting bank shots. I calculate the amount of angle I need to use on a given shot and then use this system on the bank shot. It has increased my bank shot success rate from 30-35% to 60-65%. Needless to say, it brought my game up to another level.

Thank you for this fantastic instructional video! I walked away from the game 25+ years ago after being ranked just below pro status. I just recently started playing again after all those years and struggled remembering what got me to wear my status use to be. This video simplified a lot of what I forgot and once again, Thank You for this video!!!

Good system. I think there are actually 5 shots in total: 1. Split the difference to 25 or 75%. 2. Horizon (centre to edge). 3. Edge to edge. 4. Split the difference #2 which is aim at either 25 or 75% to start with and then pivot to in between that and the edge. 5. North Pole (100% straight shots where you aim for the TOP of the object ball).

I agree, some angles you will have to hit like 88% about halfway between split the difference 75% and the edge, I refuse to believe no angle will ever fall halfway between those two. You might even have 92% and 83% for example, there are many, many angles that occur in pool, but overall I do like the method and will use it for sure. There is also quess work to this method, the quess work is determining which one to shoot but with a little practice it will get easier. THE QUESS WORK ALSO WILL BE DETERMINING IF IT'S 75% OR 88%, there will be times when you have to cheat a bit to one side or the other based on the angle. Unless you are playing on a table with big pockets then that can reduce how many angles you can pocket a ball, but play on tighter pockets and see the difference. A good method none the less and can help you improve.

Hey I don't care what anyone says Mike explains this aiming system better than anyone that I have heard. I've been playing pool for about 12 years including league play and in my humble opinion this guy is on point. He makes it simple and it is amazingly accurate when you practice it. I've been using it for a month or so and I see the vast difference in my accuracy. Society wants quick answers but you must still practice. I can't thank you enough for posting this information. Alot of good shooters wouldn't show this much detail.

Just 3 days ago I was missing shots that I shouldn't have missed! I couldn't wait to come back and comment on this video. Out of 45 players, I finished 1st in a tournament amongst a field of some really strong players. This video is worth it's weight in gold because I took home a really nice cash prize after practicing and following his instructions. My confidence level soared and I felt like I could almost make any shot on the pool table. It definitely simplifies where to contact your object balls but you still need to practice your positional play and the type of English you need to use!
@dcccaldyou987

For those of you who are having trouble making this system work, the stumbling block for me was that he was not "SHOWING" his pivot motion (it was too fast and subtle). Once I figured out that the center-to-25, center-to-75, and 25/75-to-horizon involved a physical pivot the genius of the system fell into place for me. For those who need an explanation of the pivot, first aim at the original spot on the object ball (center/25/75) while at the center of the cue ball, then pivot your back hand only so that the cue is now aiming at the second point on the object ball (25/75/horizon). The system has some other factors that can add issues to the accuracy such as when the object ball and cue ball are very close together, but all in all this system has improved my shot accuracy tremendously!!!
@chrisanderson4044
@chrisanderson4044 3 жыл бұрын
That means you’re always hitting the cue ball off center and putting unintended English on the ball
@DC-xu1sb
@DC-xu1sb 3 жыл бұрын
@@chrisanderson4044 I find that the amount that I pivot on average is probably a 1/4 of a tip off center and because I tend to shoot the ball as softly as possible to increase my odds against pocket rattlers, English on the cue ball is not really an issue for me.
@freedomhard2310
@freedomhard2310 3 жыл бұрын
Are you aiming at the cue ball at 25, 50, 75 and changing where you hit the cue ball like english or aiming 25, 50, 75 on the object ball? I can not figure this out no matter how many times I watch the video
@dcccaldyou987
@dcccaldyou987 3 жыл бұрын
@@freedomhard2310 You begin by lining your cue at the center of the cue ball and aiming at the 25, 50 or 75 on the object ball. Then you move only your back hand so that you are now aiming at the new aiming point for the type of shot you need to execute.

Good system. It's actually called fractional aiming and has been around for years. Makes the game simpler. There are only 5 shots you ever need to shoot on a table (not hundreds). 5 different angles to a pocket and they all repeat themselves. Every system has a point at which they break down... usually when the balls are close together or at extremely sharp angles. Then an adjustment needs to be made. But those shots also don't come up as often on a table. So aiming techniques all work and many pros use them. Some are simple, some are more complicated. Find the one that works best for you and get good at it. But if you're using more than 7 angles (for a triple shim table) it's probably a system that is complicated and excessive. Believe it or not, there are at least 19 different aiming methods. Most work 80-95% of the time. Much better odds than Vegas!! Hint: The same methods also work for bank shots (if you look at where the mirror image of the pocket is at - off the table).

He's giving us a base like foundation if you will and it does work I've been doing it for weeks now ! I've also been trying different applications of it , different angles , different distances , different spins ! What I'm trying to say is Mike's giving us more knowledge and I thank him for it ! After all knowledge is power in the pool world we call this an edge ! What we do with it is up to us ! Thanks once again !

Thank YOU Leroy. I've been spending a lot of time at Las Vegas Cue Club and there are lots of old timers down there with a vast wealth of knowledge on the game. They have great stories that goes along with the experience. They've also been giving me tips and pointers and man, what they know about the game, you can't put a price on.....then again, you can just pay them for it and they will happily tell you their secrets. Little Mike wants to share his knowledge with people and make it more fun for everyone. He wants to get more people excited about the game by showing them how to be better. He once told me that when he passes, his knowledge goes with him. Why not share what he knows and maybe it will better others and the sport.

I have been using this system for about 6 months now and it has improved my accuracy tremendously! It definitely takes a while to recognize what method a particular shot requires but over time you will automatically know which one to use for a particular angle and your accuracy will improve. Over time I have also recognized that some shots require no pivot at all -- where you aim directly at the 25 or 75 and don't pivot at all!!! This is not discussed in any of the videos but certain angles just don't require a pivot and will result in a missed shot if you do. It will take time working with this system to learn what shots require what technique, but for me, the time invested in working with this system has really improved my game and given me much more enjoyment of the sport.

I think his system is objective...that he is aiming how he says he's aiming. LOTS of systems work on the shorter shots (distance from OB to pocket) due to pocket width so it's not important...and possibly not correct to aim for the center of the pocket anyway. But clearly, on longer shots only 3 points of aim is NOT enough to pocket long shots consistently. So, yes...a lot of "system advocates" are actually correcting for errors...especially on the longer shots. Finally, while most amateurs use far too much spin, few racks allow for position correct position using only center CB hits. THAT truth is where any and every aiming system must be adjusted for side spin UNLESS the OB is close enough to the pocket that it doesn't matter.
@jamesscott2113
@jamesscott2113 4 жыл бұрын
I want to add that SOME systems...like this one...or CTE or fractional aiming are way better than byguessorbygod. (unless you shoot a million balls that way like Mosconi). That is true because the major systems DO work on a LOT of shots that amateurs would miss a lot of buy guessing. So, I am NOT disrespecting the system...at all. Players must simply understand which shots (especially long rolls of the OB) will not work and/or when position play demands side spin in which case the systems often won't work.

I love the videos and love Mike's teaching style. I am a APA 7 in 8ball and a 7 in 9ball. I have played BCA anad now just play cash league and Tap League. I have been using a edge to center aiming system and it works great most of the time but every shot is not a perfect angle so I also implement a fractional with it. I tried Mikes system this past Monday and Wednesday in league action but practiced it first. I LOVE IT AND IT IS SIMPLE TO USE AND SIMPLE TO AIM. But I did find certain shots didn't fall exactly into Mikes 3 options so I would just make a minor adjustment and pocket the ball. The key is to practice this method so your comfortable with it and be able to identify a straight to 30 degree angle to a 45 to 70 degree give or take. Make some banking videos

Actually this way of aiming is fairly inventive and effective. So hats off to you for finding something that works for you. Now for my take. When making a cut to the left, line up your shot somewhere on the left side of the cue ball pointed to the same spot on left side of the object ball depending on how steep the cut is, you can now pivot to the center of the cue ball and also to the center of the object ball for a perfect line up to make the shot without any unwanted spin which is what you have going on here. Obviously just reverse this to make a cut shot to the right. Nice job, you are a thinking man trying to find a better way of doing things.

This is a good base system to learn the game with. Everyone's idea of the "visual" points is going to be different, as is the shots reaction to the use of English; you just really need table time to work out how you see the balls. This system is similar to what I use, I always find the Edge-to-edge shots have been money for me over the years as they are the least affected by English. If anyone is having trouble with that visual, try and look at the shot as the balls overlapping, the nature of sight should allow you to focus on both balls at the same time and have them blur together. Also, like with CTE, this pivot is more of your conventional HALF tip pivot. A lot of people think of tip pivots of a whole tip being the actual whole tip instead of the tips contact point. I find it's easier to explain to people as a half tip pivot because you can then use the entire tip as your reference visual.

The "pivot" on some shots you make is dead-on thru the center of the CB while others you apply low right when cutting the OB left. Is it the video perspective or do you make some minor adjustments in addition to the pivot? If so then please explain. Thank You

This guy can shoot the lights out, so I hate to say anything, but a shot can be anywhere from 0 to 90 degrees. You would certainly need more than 3 different aiming spots. Center, split the difference, and horizon. If you are trying a cut near 90 degrees your aiming spot is nearly a full half ball off the edge (or as he calls it, horizon) object ball. In reality, shots from 0 to 90 degrees would have 90 different aiming spots if you wanted to control the ball within 1 degree. Edit... I finished watching after I commented and I see he covered near 90 degree cuts. It still doesn't change my opinion.

Wrong, you are forgetting the size of the pocket. Which allows for the 3 aiming spots.

Thanks for sharing. I had been struggling a bit with other techniques, just ghost ball and instinct, and so on. Then I started doing what you were doing exactly on my own, except I hadnt yet come to the center to horizon shot just yet ( I was using the fractional method on that one). All you have to do is adjust a tad for angle variations. It makes intuitive sense to me and is easy to use.

FaDa Vlogs expect CTE youtuber will visit your channel and reject your system. We almost have the same system. The 25 and 75 for semi straight shot is the path of the white ball to the center point of the ghist ball that's why im agree with ur sysytem. I know ur computation. To all viewers just explore this system showed in this video, it will put your game into another level and you can achieve consistency in every shots.

+juan ball For those who think this is the same aa the CTE system, I strongly disagree. At the end of the day, every system gets you to the same point of contact. It's the different ways of explaining how to get there that makes it the system. Everyone has their preferences and what they are more comfortable with. One system might be better for one individual then another. There is no one system that's for everyone.

The more that I use this aiming system, the more it just blows my mind how well it works! Logically, my mind tells me that it shouldn't work -- but it just does. For all shots 30 degrees and less, I use 5 different shots -- 50%, 50 to 25/75, 25 or 75 direct with no pivot, 25/75 to horizon, and straight horizon (0% / 100%). I'm still amazed it works so well but it does. And the totally amazing aspect of it is how well it works with bank shots!!! By just judging what kind of cut you need the object ball to hit the cushion at and applying the proper method, bank shots become so much easier. I've gone from a poor bank shot player to now making 90 to 95% of my bank shots. Believe me, that will take your game to a whole new level! How this system works so well I'll never figure out, but it sure as hell works for me.

I have been aiming this way since I started playing pool about 4 years ago. My brother actually gave me the idea. I search the internet to see if anyone else was doing it and since I didn't have the split the difference I didn't see your video. I shoot the object ball as though it's on the rail. I often take my pool stick and hold it up so that I can picture the rail of the pool table alongside the object ball right into the pocket. As a result I am actually hitting the ball at about 75% just like you would if the ball was actually on the pool table rail.

The system is a good one. I am sure the teacher unconsciously adds a little angle between the three described angles depending on the shot. Using his principles, I aim the shot in that designated direction and do a slight, unconscious adjustment when I "see the shot". Works great. I will share this video with the team. Great video! Thanks!

Roxpa - I don't think most of us are "trolling", it just frustrating to me in particular when experts in any field give a minimal example of their technique and then say "see - it's that simple". It always looks simple when they complete something they are very good at (especially when they are using very simple cases of techniques directed towards the tough shots you really want help with that need better descriptions).
@roxpac7091
@roxpac7091 5 жыл бұрын
@@78tag I understand your frustration. I think we can all agree that pool can be very frustrating. However, I don't think you can say that Mike and Kenny give minimal examples. They have posted 9 different training sessions thus far (most in two or three parts), and they continually accept and invite questions that subscribers might have about the various techniques. I myself have been applying the techniques during the last two weeks in my BCA league. I won 7-0 last week against an average player, and got an ero and missed three others on the 8 ball this week (because I was too nervous) and won the match against a better player. I admit that I'm still having a bit of trouble with the horizon shot, but I'm sure I will figure it out if I can just find some time to practice. We don't all learn to read the same way; pool is no different. If this method isn't working out for you, try another. But it is sure working for me.

There is nothing new about this. Snooker players in England have been talking about quarter-ball, half-ball, three-quarters ball, full-ball for generations. Sometimes the angle is slightly more or less than these. Judging the angle is a matter of knowledge and experience. The great Joe Davis, World Snooker Champion since the 1920s, explained all this in detail in his book, "How I Play Snooker" in 1949.

You mentioned pivoting. Plz explain how to line up to the center CB and pivot to the 75% spot on the OB without hitting off center on CB.
@jaspergan
@jaspergan 3 жыл бұрын
the cueball is the pivot in this case, not your hand. highly unrecommended because it requires you to MOVE when you're down on your shot. this probably would work on such a small table but when you're playing for real (9footers) any odd movement in your stroke or cue delivery is gonna throw the object way off.
