VLOG# 168: Las Vegas TAP Wk 2 Fall League Match 2019
Welcome back everyone!
The 3 weeks break from pool was much needed. I started to feel burnt out towards the end of last season and I'm looking forward to playing some pool. I was thinking about taking this session off but instead, I am in 3 leagues. I want to qualify for Nationals for TAP, BCA, VNEA & VCS.
The first week, I had issues with my phone and the videos I took did not turn out. I played Allan and he whooped up on me as he is a 7. I should have practiced a little during my off time.
My record for the Fall TAP League 2019 season is now 0W and 1L going into week 2.
This week I play David. He has a 5 ranking in TAP 8 ball.
The race is David-4 and Ken-4.
Hopefully I do better this week for I am starting to get a little ticked off with my play.
I've been working hard in hopes of becoming a better player. Please come back and see my progression. Please also check out my training progress and other videos at FaDa Vlogs:

I think your biggest issues are shot selection and shot speed. Think about where you're leaving the cueball, you can't always assume you're going to make your ball. So pick a shot that if you miss you leave your opponent nothing and if you make it you have a leave for another ball or defense. Also most of the time you are hitting too hard. This is all stuff you have probably heard but its always good to be reminded of our issues so we can keep them in mind as we play. You got this! Remember, weren't you just on like a 14 win streak or something not too long ago?

I might suggest it’s your cue and your pre shot routine. When you look at your shot your down on it quick shoot and you either miss or get out of position. This makes every shot after harder. I hope this helps.

I agree with the preshot routine. I'm offline with my aim and stroke because of how I get down on the ball. Also picking bad patterns. Thanks Wayne.👊👍👏

I feel I am just like you when I do all the pre shot things I become very successful but when I look back at other times shots seemed easy and I missed or got out of position had to fight back to get there.

Just keep practicing your changes and your game will improve and just muscle do it you will start winning the more you get used to the changes. Anytime you try to put changes in your game it's going to mess you up a little. So just keep up with the changes and you should start improving. I went through this too.

I think most have pointed this out but it seems it the preshot routine and cue ball speed control. I am relatively new to competitive play and I find that it helps to focus on where the ball will land. That way if I miss they're still in a bad spot.

Hey Ken, we've all struggled through slumps at times just have to focus and bare down, remember to practice the fundamentals pre-shot, stroke, speed, spin. picking a specific spot for the cue ball helps me when I'm struggling for shape, good shape makes for easier run-outs. Also @14:20 better shape from the 3 to the 5 would have made that run-out a sure thing, it's always that one poor leave that costs you a lot of racks. Good Luck Ken.

Ken,it would seem that you just need to hit more balls. But when you do,have a purpose to your practice sessions. For example... Work on stroke. Staying down longer, getting lower on the entire shot and consistently hitting at medium speed. And you could probably use a "tune up" match. This wasn't criticism. But without structure, practicing is pretty much useless. Keep after it Ken. And new camera looks better. I look forward to next week.

Do you have a specific practice routine you use to get in stroke? I find that lining up 7-8 balls at mid table and shooting them all as stop shots in the corner from different cue ball distances/speeds gives me confidence that I'm shooting straight before I move on to actual play. New camera looks great by the way

It also looks like you accelerate your cue pretty fast which causes your grip hand to tighten up/poke at the cue ball at the very end. It becomes very hard to make the longer shots when you do that. Hope this helps.

Camera definitely has a crisper picture. I agree with John. Pattern play. Looks to me like you overthought too many shots. Sometime you gotta use your hangers to get to the next shot instead of saving them. I enjoy your videos.

Dont blame the cue. Practice without english for a little bit and look at some of your old videos. Now maybe it is just me, but I see vaiances in the way you are lining up...sometimes your right eye is over your cue on the shot line, sometimes itnis the left eye. Couple of shots this video it was the bridge of your nose. Inconsistency in your lineup will cause inconsistency in your delivery and your shotmaking. Take a few minutes and go through Tor Lowrys 1 hr 5 min video Pools Biggest secrets 3. Free on you tube. But looks to me like it is your stance. Do a stroke drill and get your stance down. The come on back to Dallas and I'll play ya a set or three

gg , try relaxing your shooting arm a bit i think , when i see people miss some what simple shots and get upset i tell them relax and losing up the shooting hand on the cue a bit , in some way i see improvements , low skill players luv giving tough shots on opp. that how i practice , some can be tough to play with at time because they hard on them self

Personally... I like the camera more zoomed in, or closer. Get you a Meucci with a "Pro" Shaft... and the hardest playing tip you can tolerate. I use a Kamui Clear Hard. The Predator Hard is a tiny bit softer. I wouldn't go any softer than a Predator Med. The harder the tip... the less deflection. Your stroke will be challenged with a hard tip.. but your shooting will improve. You should practice 9 or 10 ball.!! Which will challenge you ability, to get to a ball you have to shoot next. That's why I hate 8 ball... people shoot the wrong ball... they over think a shot ...thinking strategy... playing safe instead of breakouts. You gave two games to your challenger...via 8 ball fail. The other 2 my opinion... you over thought... and played too much safety. Bro... don't get angry with me... I'm just chewing the fat...and maybe a little too much. There is nothing wrong with Lucasi cues... I just like Meucci. Least Lucasi uses wood. LOL Meucci uses plastic more than some toy makers... but their Pro Shaft... it's good. I watch videos of Van Boning and Siming and Corey D. ….study their position play... they come into a shot-when ever they can... where ball speed isn't critical. They also ….walk around the table and look at the shot line of the next ball... and figure out... what side of the shot line they need to be on... to travel to the next ball. I'll shut the hell up now... I know you know all this... but anyways... Good Video ROCK ON !

Ken, I’ve been following your matches for about six months and I’m beginning to notice a pattern to some of your missed shots and lost games. When you are trying to make an important shot during a game, rather than striking your object ball to go in at “pocket speed” you seem to be trying to make a “statement” to your opponent by hitting your shot way too hard. The end result is you object ball rattles in the pocket and fails to drop. Go back a look at some of your recent matches and see if you see what I’m seeing. I hope this observation helps.

your doing a great job with the vlog. but your not that good when your against stronger players. maybe your ranked to high.you crack under pressure.all your coaching by mike is out the window when a shot has to be made for the win. relax breathe and make that shot you can do it.

Kenny, you don't need to beat yourself up. You're shot selection does not match your position play at all and pattern play seems to be non-existent. Not like you at all! Take your time, study the table and then shoot, not just the shot you're over but think about position for the next shot, your ability to make balls hasn't left you, it's shot selection. Camera looks very good, very crisp and clear!
