Something that I did in my classroom to practice math models of all types (graphs, tallies, building tens) was teach ALL of them quickly at the BEGINNING of the school year and we used one model a day to make choices in the classroom: which brain break? Which read-alouds? Which toys for social time... Etc. I used it as a transition tool coming back into the classroom from anything. They line up and take turns putting a tally/build a ten stick/ graph which choice they wanted. Of course at the beginning of the year, I stood at the front and redirected if needed, but pretty quickly everyone knew how to do it and it was an easy transition task into the classroom and I could be doing something else entirely. I found this helped practice and build confidence when it came time to explicitly teach the models throughout the year. When I was explicitly teaching math models, I had tally the room, graph the room, and ten the room in centers as well.

For teaching tally marks to my kinders, we say “1,2,3,4, number 5 shuts the door. 6, 7, 8, 9, number 10 shuts it again”. We also do a daily question on our morning meeting message (we start with simple yes or no questions) and we make tally marks to show our answers. These two ideas help my kinders learn tally marks so fast each year!

🤩 Did you know that you can put your laminator on 5 mil setting (if you have it), and you can laminate 2 pieces at a time?!? (Yes. I re-watch your vlogs. 😉)

Are your phone and iPad linked with GoodNotes somehow? I have GoodNotes, but I don’t see a way to connect them between the devices. I believe that’s what your digital planner it on. Right?
