NC is actually a swing state! Check out chapel hill for more of a democratic feeling haha. most of the triangle area is blue as well! It’s mostly rural areas that are red leaning.

I moved to Pittsburgh a year ago with my ex, we broke up 10 months later, I broke my ankle AND still had to move out. Now I have a new job, my own apartment- girl I’m so happy and blessed. I’m so glad I came across this video! I am moving to Durham from Michigan next month to work at Duke! I have also been a bit anxious about moving to a new area by myself

omg!! watching this 2 years later but I just got accepted into Duke for grad school and the program is unmatched in all areas, but I always wanted to live in a bigger city for grad school and am really sad about letting that dream go so I feel really at peace hearing your thought process through this and knowing others felt this way. Everyone keeps telling me Durham has a sweet charm so I'm also trying to look at this positively and knowing that I'm meant to be there for some reason and what's meant for me will always find me.

You'll be fine & you will adjust. Plus you won't even have time to interact with anyone or mingle with any one as you're best friends & your mingling will be your studies & your books for 1L semester. Plus you really don't know NC's actual environment as we are in a pandemic. I bet if the pandemic did not exist it be like a small college town with may student's interacting at night. Remeber your focus is school not social life as you won't have much. Sending Good vibes !

I'm from New Orleans currently in Central Florida. Was looking to move to NC but I'm reconsidering because they are hella expensive. For those apartments, I could get something decent in Nola and something extremely nice in Florida. That really surprised me.. would not have thought NC to be so expensive!

NC is a red state but Raleigh Durham and Chapel Hill are very very Blue. Also the area is primarily transplants. Most people moved here for work like I did and pretty much my entire neighborhood. You are tight about skyscrapers. They are almost non existent but you are coming from LA so ....

It may be a red state but I promise that is the rural areas. If you are in the city, you shouldn't have any problems. Also Durham has North Carolina Central University not too far from Duke. UNC is chapel hill territory :)
