As a therapist, I work with so many people experiencing burnout, and have experienced it myself over the years, more than a few times! There are a list of questions I work though with clients (and myself) that help. 1. Are there areas of unnecessary stress/activity that I can cut back on, or out altogether? 2. Have I been letting my personal boundaries slide with people and allowing more chaos in? 3. Have I been finding myself giving in to other's expectations of me, or falling back into a "people-pleasing" role? 4. Do I need to ask for more help or support from my family, boss, etc.? 5. Do I need to re-address my sleeping, self-care, or diet habits? I can say without fail that when I am experiencing high levels of burnout, there are at least two of these questions I answer yes to, sometimes more. Once I address those, I almost always feel a sense of relief and back in alignment with what I need. Hope this helps!

Mine is always lack of support for my disabled child, and there just isn't enough out there. Not enough spoons for myself, and no way to replenish them on my own. Figuring out the burnout can definitely be half of the battle though. The average person's lifestyle in the US definitely contributes to high risk of burn out in general.

I've noticed over the last few years that it seems like videos about burnout from you tend to show up not long after you and Tyler spend a lot of time out on Disney and other trips. Traveling a lot and coming back can create some convoluted feelings and a bit of depression. Traveling in and of itself is a little stressful and the "man, I just want to go home" feelings get strong, but then you get home and with home comes reality, unpacking, bills, all things not Disney and not magical and not people catering to your needs. Suddenly, you're back to realizing that your home life is a little exhausting. Just something to keep in mind, maybe.

Agreed. I always feel I need a vacation after vacation, because vacation is running around seeing things. Then you’re back at work, but feeling you need additional decompression time.
@89gummybears
@89gummybears Жыл бұрын
@@sharonshade4437 My husband recently said "It's not really a vacation because you never feel rested afterward" and I noticed that I refer to my travels as "trips" not "vacations". Maybe a small switch like that could help a little with the burnout. I also try to plan a few days off after returning home to reorient myself and get the unpacking and laundry etc done before getting back to life.

I feel "iffy" when people say "I get to do what I love, my work is my passion" because I think sometimes it contributes to a different kind of burnout. When your passion becomes daunting work, it stops being a passion and it's hard to find other things to help rebalance yourself. I think we all need to get back to indulging in nature and step away from the technology we've come to not be able to live without. I imagine working from home is hard; your place of peace and sanctuary is also the place that induces work stress. Burnout is tough.

I don’t completely agree that when your passion becomes your work it stop being a passion. But I do agree that it makes it so your consuming that passion so much that it can burn you out nonetheless! The hobby/passion now has higher stakes due to finances and things. But it is not comparable to doing something you absolutely dislike for a living. 😊

I seriously needed this today. Yesterday was just one of those days where nothing seemed to go right - we had a long night the night before with our kiddo not sleeping (so WE didn't sleep) and everyone was just grouchy, work was super frustrating, and my husband and I just felt "off" in our communication. It was honestly one of those days where I felt like I was just failing at everything. Once the kiddo was in bed, we were finally able to talk about everything (and I of course was a ball of emotions), and my wonderful husband reminded me of all the things that I DID do that way overshadowed the little "failures" I had. Thankfully, we're headed up to the mountains this weekend for a little anniversary getaway, and it could NOT have come at a better time because the burnout is REAL, and those moments where you really get to reconnect with your partner are priceless 💗

Same re: burn out. Thankfully, I go to therapy regularly. I'm caring for my mom, who has dementia while still adjusting to a new job, taking care of our home, etc. I actually felt guilty for wanting time for myself. I have breathing exercises that help me center myself (& help me go back to sleep in the middle of the night). So I'm taking this weekend for myself & will be better for everyone for it. ❤

As a mother of two and widowed many years ago at 35 I look back and can say I wish I could have done some things differently as I do believe I suffered burnout. Trying to be Mom and Dad to two little ones, trying to please family and friends, keep my house spotless and organized and be at all the children’s events. I don’t know how I survived. I think as parents we are programmed to keep up with everything but it is impossible. You have to learn Jess to say “no” to some commitments, set boundaries, try to exercise just a walk in the early evening with the family. I found that setting time to meet a girlfriend for dinner or a movie helped me through the rough times and 40 years later now retired these friends are still in my life. I say in life you cannot have it all. Something always has to take second place but that is okay too. At the end of the day your husband and children will be what sustains you in life. My hat goes off to young people raising a family today it is the hardest work you will ever do but try to enjoy it while the are small as it goes so fast. Thank you for bringing this up for discussion it is so important.❤️

Productivity is another issue that we as a society have. A lot of ppl as a whole don't feel good about themeselves or their day if they haven't been "productive". But who measures productivity...what is the correct amount? Lots of pressure on ourselves is what I think it comes down too,

Thank you for talking about burnout! It’s like a cycle. You do good for a while and then get burnt out again. My strategy for combatting it is to simplify. When I cut some things out (permanently or temporarily), I don’t feel so overwhelmed. Also switching up routines can help me get out of a rut. Also planning and taking a vacation can help reset my everyday.

Yes! It took me awhile to just LET GO of some of the expectations I put on myself. It's okay to not workout everyday, cook gourmet meals, keep the house clean, etc. for a season! You can let some balls drop. Go easy on yourself and just lower the bar for the time being.

My son had been a high school special education teacher of high risk kids for over 13, 14 years. He had a heart for teaching. During the pandemic, he was here at my house with his two girls and his son. Watching him teach was mesmerizing. So much passion and concern for each student. Well, fast forward to lately…he’s done. He’s had to deal with admin personnel who are narrow minded who are making the profession of teaching a chore. The stress and drama had become ridiculous and so, my son is done with teaching. Total burn out and lack of desire to go to work around people who are scrutinizing every thing the teachers are doing is just too much. He had started a side hustle which has been very profitable and he can do it on his phone and he’s happier. Burn out is definitely real…😞…

So glad you’re taking some time to yourself! You absolutely should take the time you need, without feeling work guilt. You and Tyler both work so hard and deserve to take breaks. On burnout- I’m a wedding makeup artist and have been for 9 years; last year I experienced such bad burnout symptoms but chalked it up to my anxiety and depression I already struggled from. I switched medications multiple times, had lots of trouble sleeping, and none of it helped until I quit. I’m currently 30 and back in school switching career paths, and couldn’t feel better. My ‘normal’ level of anxiety was not normal and was me running on adrenaline for years. Anyways thanks for discussing this! It’s not talked about enough! And definitely not encouraged enough to switch paths professionally if necessary. Although I really hope you don’t quit you and Taylor are my comfort KZfaqrs 💕

Burn out is a real thing and I think the whole world is feeling it. It’s been a hard 3 years. Think about these people struggling to feed their families and putting gas in their cars to even get to work on a daily basis. Life is just really heavy for a lot of us right now and the fact we can’t even see a light as the end of the tunnel is really disheartening. You’re definetly not alone, as many of us aren’t as far as burn out. ❤

First let me say you are so loved and I appreciate your honesty with all of us. I have been married since I was 18 and I am 57. My husband is amazing and so wonderful. That being said, we just retired and moved to Fl and my mom and stepdad moved also. We experienced our first hurricane, Ian and that was horrible. Now, me and my hubby spend almost every night discussing senior care. My step dad just was diagnosed with Alzheimers dementia and my mom must have some form of vascular dementia because she is in a weird denial. Anyway, my point is we wanted to have a loving, calm, lazy life at least the first year or two of retirement. Instead, we are learning all about dementia care. It is hard but we are trying to make time for us. We are together often but not talking about our wants and dreams. It can be very stressful in all walks of life but as long as we communicate and have down time we should be good.

Fellow Hoosier here w/ both my husband and I having burnout in the last few years. My doctor told me vitamin D3 and a lot of it! It is specific to how much you weigh and age but I take between 4000 and 5000UI daily. (I’m def not a doctor so anyone reading this ask your doctor before choosing a dosage!)She said she believes everyone living in Indiana needs to be on it bc we are so extremely deficient in it. She also did a full panel on me just to see if there are any other areas I can improve in. I take that as well as magnesium, zinc, and a cortisol stress management supplement. It def doesn’t “fix” everything but it does help my mood/feelings of being overwhelmed.

For the Zote soap, I bought a cheapy cheese grater and shredded the entire thing and keep it in a jar, and only use a few pinches on my brush mat to clean my brushes. So you only use what you need and its stores great. However, I do notice it dries out my natural bristle brushes so the hairs start to break and shed.

The Flex style is a game changer for me and I find myself using nothing else. My hair is very straight, thin, and fine. It gives my hair movement, bounce, and curl like nothing else. I can dry and curl my hair with the curling barrels at same time. So fast and done.
@chaosbecomesher
@chaosbecomesher Жыл бұрын
Same, the flexstyle is definitely faster if I'm trying to go from just washed hair to styled :) It's also easier to pack than my usual hair dryer. For me the only downside is that the style doesn't hold. If I fully dry my hair so I can use my nume curling wand, my hair stays curly/wavy for days, but the flexstyle only lasts for the day, if that.
@dashnja.9202
@dashnja.9202 Жыл бұрын
@@chaosbecomesher It does reduce from curls to body over the day but that's ok with me. I just refresh the curl the next day and use as little product as possible.

Thanks for sharing that about Burn out. I was definitely feeling that way toward the end of the school year and it was scary. At that time I found a quiz online that differentiated between physiological burnout like adrenal fatigue related versus work-related burn out and they are different. Thankfully by finishing up the school year and getting time off from teaching and doing some fun relaxing things has made a huge difference for me. It was definitely work-related. I've got to find ways to recharge during the school year and not overcommit.

I really like the tinted balm for light makeup days, but I spread some on the back of my hand and then dip the sponge lightly into it to apply light layers. Otherwise I get too thick a layer. I also powder it a bit to help it last longer. Definitely not a long-wearing foundation, but nice for when you just need a light layer.

Chop the soap into little squares and press them into a glass container from the dollar store with a lid. It’s soft so you can mold it easily. Rub the brushes into the soap rub them into a brush cleaning pad and voila. As you get low just add more soap.

I decided to take a 2 week break from work next month because I am definitely feeling some burnout. Decided that even though I can't really "afford" it, I also can't afford to lose my stuff in the middle of my work day (I work retail). I also just recently started therapy and am trying to go weekly (to start) to help with everything I've been feeling lately. So I get it, and I'm glad that you guys are taking the time to recognize it and figure out a way to bring things back into alignment. ❤

Hi Jess! The Zote soap fits wonderfully in the Glad/Rubbermaid reusable plastic containers that are a “medium” rectangle (holds 3 cups/24 oz). You could probably also use some recycled lunch meat containers that are similar in size. 💕

Thank you for getting into the symptoms of burn out! I had no idea why I was feeling the way I was for the longest. I finally had the courage to speak up to a friend of mine. She said it sounded like I was experiencing burn out from my job. I had never thought about that even being a possibility because my job wasn’t necessarily hard or high stress. But, the more I looked into it, the more it made so much sense. I just though for the longest that if you didn’t have a high stress job, you were essentially exempt from burnout. So, for that reason, I never decided to explore the idea. Thankfully, I’ve been in touch with another employer so that I can start to mend my relationship with myself. Cheers to new beginnings 🎉

Recommendation for the Zote soap! Use a bar soap travel container, take the Zote soap and cut it slice by slice and just keep a slice in the container that u use to wash your brushes with. I literally hold the container and get it a little wet, swirl my brushes on it and rinse it once I’m done and just store it. The remaining chunk of the bar I keep in a zip loc and just slice it as I need it 💗

I suppose I never knew the actual definition of a burnout, that could very well be what I’ve been going through for quite some time since I graduated college. No I’m not a parent but I do see my mom stressed and overwhelmed too and I try to tell her to do things for herself which she has been doing more and more. All of us struggle with burnout in different ways but you’re right it is good to talk about it and not just bottle it up. Loving your videos I look forward to them 💙💙

I cut my Zote soap in 3 or 4 sections. Store it in a freezer bag and put it away. The piece I plan to use, I leave on a soap tray. When I’m done and it’s dry, I cover it. I only like it for brushes. My sponges and eyeshadow brushes I use something else.

I love your chats, I understand how you feel. My husband and I are going on 10 years and probably been on about 10 dates total we have 3 kids and no help so I agree with the date night thing. You are always consistent with videos take breaks, we'll all be here waiting. From someone who suffers with depression and anxiety I've noticed over the past year it has gotten worse and its weird because I've dealt with it since early teens so Iwas wondering what was going on too, lots of us are burnt out with you but thank you for always posting videos❤️❤️❤️
