My one year old son made my PS2 fall on the floor. The tray would not open, but thanks to your video the whole familiy can once again play "Spyro" again.

This looks like my Japanese 10000 model, had mine 19 years now, I just replaced the laser in it, I'm amazed it lasted this long considering it had a hammering it took in its early days... on every day! Ive now upgraded it to a khs-400c laser and now she's works beautifully again though it was working OK before just got very slow reading dvds sadly no amount of pot adjustment and lens cleaning fixed it just worn out, scph-10000 is still the best version of the ps2 imo. Thetrays on 10000 always stick or become to slow if you let the dust build up and don't service it, the metal guide bar on the tray is usually the culprit, a quick tear down, clean and lube always sorts it.

I have had the same issue with 2 of my PS2s . Glad to know there is someone out there documenting the process. Isn't it neat how that all works together in unison to bring the tray up, then you see the little laser eye go up and down. Awesome!

What a clear and concise fix with great video. Thank you so much. I just found one of these for $3.50 and that is the exact symptoms. I can absolutely see that when you hit the project button that because that white pin has not then slid all the way over to the track that goes all the way down the tray the tray of course cannot move forward. I will get to open it tonight, and the only thing I worry about is that maybe it is not that the knob is broken or in the wrong track, but that the gear is stripped and is not attempting to move the white mechanism over to the right. Regardless, I can't go wrong for under 4 bucks. Because now I can see that if the nub is gone, you may have issues with the tracking. Thanks for doing this

Honestly THANK YOU SO MUCH for this tutorial , my cd tray was only partly opening and it was because I had reassembled it without putting the actual tracks back on correctly🤦🏼‍♂️

So my drive is having the issue you assumed yours had but additional issues. There was rust forming and it junked up the rod the disc drive slides on. Was able to clean it up and lube it up a bit to help but for some reason either my white piece keeps misaligning or something keeps slipping more than it should. Your video was very helpful to make me feel more confident with taking things more apart than I was already doing. I got to work fine without the cover on and then I reassembled it and it wouldn't budge. I think things are junked up but will try cleaning more parts and taking things apart. Thanks for videoing this though. It was very helpful

Bought a fat PS2 second hand, thought the disc tray was just off the rail since it got stuck on one side. Glad to know the fix, since the epidemic has everyone shut down, and didn't wanna throw this old fossil away quite yet

Dude thank you so much. There were 2 other videos that I watched from 2 different people. They were good videos but yours helped me out when you got to the part where you took off the part that didn't move all the way. I didn't even have to take it out. I just moved it all the way over and after that it pretty much just opened on its own. My tray barely opened halfway then when closed it wouldn't go all the way in. Thanks to your help I got it to open and close properly. Ps this was my first time opening a ps2 also. I've had it since I was young. Now I dont have to buy another one.

My ps2 also would not open the tray. Owned it since new so it have never been open before.( incorrect put together as you suggeste) What i found out in 2010 was that if the console was laying down(horizontal) and I lifted the console slightly under the power button. Now it was maybe in a 20 degree angle and press the tray button at the same time it would open the disc tray. :D I still do it to this day.

Not sure if anyone will see this but thank you so much, making a nostalgia type of setup with my old ps2 and discovered that the disc tray was stuck (did have a disc inside it). Hopefully I can fix the problem with some help from this cideo👍

In most cases with the PS2s tray not opening, removing the two screws for the disc tray will reveal that white arm with that point that is supposed to follow the disc tray, check the belt underneath the white gears, and give them a nice clean, then gently pull the white arm towards the right in the open position, and gently align the disc tray back on top and see if the tray can move inwards, you should see the disc assembly block raise up. Looks like an early SCPH 1800 series? Very nice! I seem to understand their power supplies deliver 8.4 volts rather than 12 volts compared to other PS2 models. Nice video, hope the console is still going? :)

That's the problem with plastic, sure it's cheap, but it's weak and has a very low melting temperature. I think the peg went out of the groove because the last person who forgot to put the screws in tight enough so when moving the the PS2, it most likely flexed causing that to happen.

Just got one for free, so far so good, it just desperately needs a deep clean and it's missing the disc tray bezel (hopefully it's an easy fix) and the issue that it won't close which is concerning lol, I also don't know if it reads discs yet, I only took off the top plate for the first time today, this'll be a fun journey 😅

GUYS IT IS THE WHITE NUB ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE AT THE FRONT OF THE TRAY! NUDGE IT INTO THE GROOVE USUALLY LEFTWARDS FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRAY! MINES GOT DISLODGED BECAUSE I MESSED AROUND WITH THE SWAP TRICK!!!

Ps2 still has online for Star Wars battle front 1 and 2 . Just change the dns numbers in network settings . Google ps2 online gaming you'll find the site .

My tray doesn't open. I will open my PS 2 tomorrow and see if that is why. Mine was new in box so it wasn't opened. I fear that plastic might be broken in mine.

I have a ps2 but i cant turn it on because i need to connect 2 short ribbon cables under the dvd drive and i cant seem to get it in.

I got quite a different situation, when ps2 turns on, it spins for half a second and then it does nothing, it can’t spin so that laser can read the disk

Anyone know where I can get a new disc drive for my 30000 series PS2? 2 years ago I tried getting it fixed at a nearby computer store (whom had a fellow retro gamer working for them at the time) and many trips had to be made. First I thought the console just needed a new laser, and I did also find them a fix for loss of CD playback. Then after an eventual failure, I suggested other fixes, like a new arm and white lithium grease, but while those did seem to fix it at first, the console ceased working again shortly afterwards. Anyone know where I can get a new disc drive for my series 30000 console? My SCPH-5552 PlayStation 1 also needs a new disc drive as well. Thanks.

sayajay Hiya :) I just picked up a SCHP10000 - its working fine but found out it was modded years ago with one of those 'disc-swap' mod chips. I didnt know it was modded as the seller never mentioned this. The system works fine but on boot-up the disc tray opens for swap (problem is disc is spinning so fast that its still spinning in the tray) - also doesnt seem a way to disable the switch on boot-up (some mods I hear can be disabled by pressing-holding reset/power buttons for a few seconds on power-up) I am considering opening it up and removing the chip/mod - are these systems tricky to work on? thanks :D
