Arsenal were outstanding against Bournemouth on Saturday in a tale of two halves. In the first - Cherries were robust and resilient, but the Gunners were supreme, and deservedly led through a controversial Saka penalty. The second half saw more fight from Iraola's men, but with the game opening up, Trossard and Rice took advantage to seal the win - but should Bournemouth have had a goal chalked off? VAR takes the headlines once again...

An Arsenal fan here.....Found your blog after the 3-2 ...been following ever since as its a great blog. Have had a soft spot for Bournemouth for many years and your club is a proper Premier League club. I loved your dig at s*urs!! Be great to see The Cherries get into Europe. It shouldn't have been a penalty...only got to look at the ones given for "foul" on Salah and the dives by Kane, which he is continuing in Germany...handball used to be "was it deliberate?" now it just has to hit an arm/hand without being deliberate....The only plus side is more goals. its obvious sponsorship and TV money had demanded it.

Yeah that was a Kane "penalty" if I've ever seen one. Don't like seeing our players do that honestly, but it's not getting overturned if the ref gives it with the way VAR is.

I thought we were good value for the win however you were very hard done by with decisions. Atmosphere was also strange for us gooners with the tribute to young Daniel pulling on people's emotions and a huge amount of respect to the away end for the way you guys conducted yourselves. @DavidMorgan-oc8uy Hi David, my issue is that I can accept poor decisions from a ref, they are unsighted etc. What I can't accept or understand is how somebody sitting in a controlled environment with time available to make a considered decision can make such an error. Havertz dangled a leg, that is no better than diving in my view, and if Solanke fouled the keeper was Billing not fouled before this.

Arsenal fan, really appreciate the content, been following since last season, personally have to say I thought that goal should have stood, and I would have been pissed off had it been the other way round, but I was relieved to take it at the time lol, btw KH definitely bought the pen by dragging his trailing foot,(been done by many players before, which I don't agree with)but he could have planted his front foot and got caught instead of stepping over and no one would of been able to argue, but saying that if Arsenal weren't so desperate for the opening goal he could have gone round the keeper

Not watched your blog before but for some reason it popped up on my KZfaq feed. Quite entertaining. One thing that does frustrate me a bit is this obsession that so called "smaller clubs" get different treatment from referees. I'll say from the off that I'm a gooner but also a retired referee. The issues with referees is that they simply aren't good enough. There is an obsession in the powers that be that we must have young referees so they get fast tracked through a flawed system and reach the top level before they reach they're ready. The can elect to be either a ref or a linesman so the referees do no line work at all. An area where you learn loads and gain valuable experience. As far as Saturday was concerned I think the scoreline didn't really represent the action (imho it should have been more) but the result did. Decision wise, Christie, early on 100% red card, that he wasn't even booked is incredible. The penalty, any other game its given and there's no furore, because its Arsenal there is. Harry Kane turned that very piece of action into an art form. The big issue for me is when a keeper goes with his legs, and then doesn't get the ball he's leaving himself wide open. Is it the attackers job to avoid conract with the keepers leg? Morally maybe but put yourself in his position are you really going skip over his outstretched foot? Its one of those it goes against you your pissed off, but on balance you want it if say the same thing happened to Solanke. I guess none of us like that part of the game but its what its become. The disallowed goal was fascinating for me, and Ive only seen it once with a slow down of what Solanke apparently did. To me there were three things that happened and the referee has penalised the least obvious of all of them. The was a possible foul on Tomiyasu right at the beginning of the melee, then a possible penalty for Gabriel pulling Solanke, the Solanke leaning into Raya. Quite why, if the referee thinks he's seen a foul, he waits until the "goal" is scored is beyond me and does him no favours. If there's a foul on a defender in the goal mouth,blow straight away because if the ball ends up in the net and you blow late, you get all the shit coming just like it has. If he didn't think the challenge on Tomiyasu was a foul then for me its a penalty for the pull on Solanke (unless they were pulling each other which wasn't obvious from the replay i saw). Sure Solanke leans into Raya while he's jumping but its very soft. Frankly i think its a goal. Clearly if you're watching your team regularly you see plenty of perceived injustices, I.can assure you guys we've had plenty this season Newcastle away, Villa away (Douglas Luiz did exactly the same thing to Jesus as Rice did to Davis, and the VAR official who gave that last week, was the on field official and that time he didn't give it. I have to say I saw some of your game against Manure a few weeks back and how their penalty was given yet an identical incident in your favour was ignored is baffling. Your manager seems to have done a quite remarkable job given you had a very worrying start to the season so fair play to him and things should be promising for you next season. Enjoy your last few games 👍

Arsenal fan here. I actually think the penalty is fine given today's standards for what gets you a penalty (we've seen Kane get plenty of these penalties in the EPL) - Havertz absolutely bought it but the keeper sold it. But even if you don't agree, you can consider it cancelling out Christie's tackle on Saka that should've been a red all day long. However, the Bournemouth goal should've stood all day long.

The issue I have with Dan Potts is he has very extreme opinions on a subject he rarely knows enough about. He said Saka dived against Bayern but the referee actually said it was a 50/50 not a dive, they just clashed together but Dan blamed Saka for not beating the keeper and scoring. Then today he said Raya isn't very good because he can't catch a ball, not mentioning Solanke pulling Raya's arm back and the Bournemouth player who Saliba pulled to the ground tripped him up meaning he couldn't catch the ball. One rule for me of being a fan is you always give the benefit of the doubt for your club because otherwise your fueling rivals and Arsenal fans are the worst at it. 3 poor decisions though in this game, Christie red card, Havertz simulation and Bournemouth disallowed goal. Bournemouth are a great team though and under their new manager are going to do great things next season.

Yep, you’re right. Nobody disputed the result, but there’s no doubt that smaller teams get a very rough deal with decisions against huge clubs, particularly away from home. Same abroad too - I’ve been to a lot of football games over the years, and the officiating definitely capitulates when howled at by such overwhelming home support. Man Utd enjoyed it for years with Fergie time and countless big decisions going their way, and more recently Wolves got the same deal at Man City over the weekend. Perhaps the Superleague is the best thing for clubs like Arsenal and the others who enjoy far better finances than 99% of the rest. One way ticket though - no easy route back to the English leagues please. Then we might enjoy more competitive football and a more even spread of decisions on the field. Any thoughts?

When you’re left confused trying to explain an on field decision, you know the officiating is bad. I still don’t understand why the Bournemouth goal was ruled out. Someone please explain to me. As for Harvetz, we’ve seen these given purely because the Referees are looking for 2 main things…deviation of the ball from its path of travel, and contact in any form. It’s a soft penalty, but in today’s game it’s more often given. Christie not getting a yellow card not even a red for his challenge on Saka is another obvious error. In all, a game I thought Arsenal would win, but I think the scoreline was more of a 2-1 than a 3-0. Gooner here and I wish you all the best for next season. You’ve got a really good Manager and I think you can push forward with him and aim for a European finish next year.

Honest opinions as an Arsenal Fan 1) It was a penalty. It is dumb, but forwards have been getting that as a penalty for decades. 2) That was a ridiculously soft foul in Raya. The only issue is Solanke definitely deliberately bumps Raya, but not enough for me really. Makes a mockery of Linton on Gabriel earlier this season though 🤷 But 3) Massive escape from a blatant red card
@DavidMorgan-oc8uy
@DavidMorgan-oc8uy Ай бұрын
Honestly, I understand why Bournemouth are upset because the decisions were marginal but they were the right decisions. The penalty decision was correct. Travers charged out and didn't get the ball. Yes, Havertz dragged his leg but there is nothing in the rules saying a striker has to get out of the way. He didn't change his trajectory and was taken out. You can also argue the leg was where it was because he was about to swing it for the shot. As for the disallowed goal. Solanke was looking right at Raya and hooked his arm meaning he couldn't claim the ball. He ended up several feet away from the goal as he was pushed. It may not have been a hard push but it was enough to have moved him out of the way illegally. Tough decisions to go against you but by the rules they are the correct ones. I am also an Arsenal fan so you can take my bias into account if you like. I started watching the channel last year after the Nelson winner and really enjoyed it. I've been watching all the vlogs since (and went back to watch all the ones before as well!) and I always look out for Bournemouth's results now. They've become an unofficial second team for me! Good luck for the rest of the season and next year. It's good to see Bournemouth having such a good year this time out. You guys deserve it.

What you said regarding the pen and disallowed goal is utter rubbish. And in any case Billing had his shirt pulled off in that melee so it was either a goal or a bournemouth penalty.

Another terrible performance from our boys, so close to UCL qualification & with Spurs now 3-0 down it could've been today, but no, typical Villa. If we play like this on Thursday we'll be out & can forget about a fight back & final.... Up the mighty Villa!!! 💩⚽☹️

@@cancorder1Beaten yes. Soundly beaten no. Diving and var really spoilt a good game. Arsenal are good enough to win without cheating. 2-1 would have been fair.

The goal you ‘scored’ that was ruled off, was after we’d scored two? So how would it be 1 v1? Do Bournemouth fans watch football via their imagination 😂
