I swear I don't know how you guys handle a 24/48hr shifts. I can barely survive my 12. We have a provider in our unit who seems to be on 48 hr shifts every single weekend, on top of working clinic hours and filling in for other providers throughout the week. it's insane!

I think residency prepares us for this, although it’s not an ideal situation. I’d love it if all of medicine somehow changed the entire structure of how many hours we work!

I'm a senior in highschool and I want to be an obgyn but I really want to learn more about the hours. Do you know if every obgyn gets 24 hrs or more on-call shifts? Also, if it's every week or not?

Did the idea of preforming surgery scare you before you went to med school? And if so did you get over that fear after residency? I’m wanting to pursue this profession, but I’m curious if that fear is totally normal.
