You are correct in that it is talent, but we had many talented performers in the 50s and 60s. Responding to each part of your message,,, auto tune makes a mockery of sound now, anyone can make a record that will be manipulated until it passes for ok quality. Next, sub-par sound systems,,, those were the best sound systems available at that time, analog, not digital. Lastly, singers then had to have real, well polished singing talents and vocal control. Today, most of those old style needs are not even considered because the industry would then offer only a few singers and groups that can actually sing well.

@@Doris9664 It was a program directed toward an adult audience. Acting out would have gotten you tossed out. They were instructed on how to behave beforehand. I think we are fortunate it was that way. Since he is in the middle of the audience, and if they had gone kind of crazy, we wouldn't have this amazing video. He would have been drowned out, and maybe even blocked from view. On a show like Shindig, made for teenagers, the audience could and did go wild. (There he is on stage a distance from the audience.) His performance of this song on Shindig is different, both his delivery/body language and the audience reaction. However, both performances are fantastic!

@janettewebster2151: I read somewhere that there was a rehearsal in the studio on the day of the show. I also read that the conditions in the studio (acoustics? temperature? humidity?) were so good that Bobby proposed to Bill that he (Bobby) could add those high notes at the end of the song that night - notes that were NOT on the studio recording (album) that had become a hit that summer. Thus, without that rehearsal, we likely would not have heard those high notes in Bobby's live performance later that night.

He allows himself that little smile at the end because he knew he'd nailed it and his mother was in the audience. This is the most played record on the radio of all time. The late, great Bobby Hatfield. He had an incredible voice and range. The term "Blue-Eyed Soul" was coined for this group as they sang with so much soul. Backstory on this performance and song.....the recorded version is slightly different than this tv version. The song came from an old prison movie called Unchained. There were 3 recorded versions ( with Al Hibbler's being the best) until Bobby sang it. Now there have been over 650 covers of the song. For most of us though, Bobby's is the best. His recorded version is featured in the movie Ghost ( giving it a rebirth onto the music charts)and has been used in tv commercials. Bobby was 24 when he sang this. He had a cold, and was very nervous because his mother was in the audience. It was her first time seeing him perform. No pressure, right? His performance was perfectly flawless and is the gold standard that others who cover it try to meet. Elvis' cover of the song is very good. Even though his health was failing his voice was strong and he did an excellent job. The Righteous Brothers don't have a big play list together, but what they do have is great. They split up for many years but eventually reunited to do concert tours. Bill Medly ( the skinny one) did a duet ( her name escapes me) and the song was a big hit...from the movie Dirty Dancing: I Had The Time of my Life.

Of every first reaction on any channels... The Righteous Brothers are #1. I grew up with their music and at age 70, I appreciate their amazing, beautiful voices and talents!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

As much as it’s surprises me that there are still people that haven’t heard this song, it also brings me so much joy to see people learn about these legends. It’s a simple pleasure!

Today's vocals can learn from both of them instead of relying on fake auto-tune. They are the real deal and learn from it.

I never get tired of hearing this song, and your comments are spot on. Bobby Hatfield's voice flows effortlessly, almost magically. Another of his solos I'd like to see you react to is Summertime -- very different than Unchained Melody but equally impressive.

Nothin' but raw talent. No autotune, no electronic correction, just pure, raw, music.

Lovely reaction! He sang that with a 'house band', no auto tune or enhancements and didn't screw his face up to hit notes, just seemed effortless, simply amazing.

You say house band but those musicians were the best. A lot of the recordings from the 60’s replaced the named band with house musicians on the record because they were better.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful performance. Bobby's voice control and especially his effortless sliding of scale makes a difficult song seem magical. You are correct with his facial expressions, Bobby knew he was knocking it out of the park. Easy Peasy for a great artist.

Great reaction! Another fantastic song by the Righteous Brothers is You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling. Even though the taller one’s voice is much deeper, they compliment each other perfectly.

Bobby Hatfield on his own is amazing. But Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley together -- the Righteous Brothers -- are pure magic. Check out their big breakout hit, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," which is on KZfaq in a black-and-white video. And their hit from a year later called "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" is also excellent. That's the sound they're most known for. But their first hit was one I don't think any reaction channel has done yet. It was written by Bill Medley, and it's called "Little Latin Lupe Lu." More of a rock 'n roll song. There's another hit they had that Bobby sang solo called "Ebb Tide." Unfortunately, there are no live performances by Bobby of it on KZfaq (don't be fooled, there's one by a guy who looks and sounds a lot like Bobby, but it's not him). But the studio recording is on KZfaq, and it's excellent.

Bobby Hatfield- the blond guy- was a natural counter- tenor. The rarest of the rare amongst male singers. Bill Medley was a natural bass- baritone. To hear how well their voices blended together, I have a few suggestions. - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - (You're My) Soul And Inspiration - You'll Never Walk Alone If you want to hear a couple of solos done by Bill Medley, I highly recommend: - I Just Wanna Make Love To You - Brown- Eyed Woman Bobby also did another classic solo called "Ebb Tide". In that one, he does even more vocal gymnastics that are just 😍💖 Thank you so much for a fabulous reaction 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Peace & blessings to you & yours 💕

I have watched this clip on other channels. Same reaction as yours. Pure astonishment. When they first started singing and people only had the radio for reference, it was assumed they were black. After people figured it out they were referred to as "blue eyed soul". As other comment's below say this was the age pre autotune. What you hear is ALL them. If you want to cuddle with your significant other, this is the song you want to listen to together!!! Another choice that shows both of them would be them performing "You've Lost That Lovin Feeing".

You want more? OK… Both boys singing: “Soul and Inspiration” “Just Once In My Life” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” Bobby’s solos: “Ebb Tide” (audio only ☹️) “Summertime” (Bobby goes so hard on this, you’ll think he’s about to hurt himself) Billy taking the lead with Bobby in backup: “I Just Wanna Make Love to You” 🔥🔥(sadly, this is also audio only) There’s a lot more than this, but start here. Enjoy!

What a voice! What a song! What a time for music! Glad I am old enough to have seen that in real time on TV! Thanks for the reaction....how about a reaction to the under appreciated Irma Thomas' "Take A Look"! No one remembers her, but her song is being featured on Philadelphia Cream Cheese commercials and now everyone is finding her online because they are searching out the song! Also "Bernadette" by the Four Tops?: Motown forever!
