The timing for the inauguration was very intentional to not be similar to the usual. The timing, and her placement, sometimes ahead or behind the beat lent an almost jazzy ? Vibe. Very upbeat, forcing you to pay attention because of the unusual beat, very theatrical - all to show a marked line between what we were and who we strive to be. A great channel did a musical theory dissection of this performance, and I was riveted.

That alone to me makes the Gaga one better but that's just me. I am aware Whitney was a better singer but why not do it live?
@TheFairyVoiceMother
@TheFairyVoiceMother 3 жыл бұрын
@@LuisEnriqueFerrerZorola Hey! You know it isn’t even that Whitney is a ‘better’ singer technically. She just makes me so emotional when she sings, and her technique is just so varied and unique and she seemed to choose these certain vowels and placements at the perfect time in the song that makes people forget themselves when they listen to her. Gaga can have that same effect too of course! Many singers can. That’s what makes them great but you can’t even really say ones better than the other honestly. They are all amazing starts and so gloriously different- we all have our reasons why we prefer one to the other. Singing this live is so high risk. It’s a very challenging melody with large intervals and powerful sustained notes. If they mess up (hit a wrong note, crack/break) they are totally exposed and live in front of sometimes billions of people world wide. These kind of performances can make or break a career. Whitney and her management and label must have decided that it was not worth the risk at that stage of her career. Gaga however did take that risk, and shes a total world class legend for it. Definitely makes me admire her the most. (I just can’t help how Whitney makes me feel hehe) 💜

Gaga is a nonconformist and is an artist who sets her own standards. Rules about how the anthem should be sung don't apply to her. She and her MD re-arranged it radically, rehearsed it with the orchestra throughout the previous day and it went exactly as planned, every sung syllable precisely accompanied by the orchestra, perfect diction. No nerves - Gaga has nerves of steel. This has to be the best ever live anthem. No artist likes to sing it live - too difficult and risky. That's why Whitney and Beyonce both mimed it. Gaga nailed it and blew it out of the park. It was like an Italian operatic performance, carry out with controlled emotion. Dunno why vocal coaches follow one another like sheep - same language, same words, same petty criticism. Not v professional.

Hey Lord Gaga! Thank you so much for such an insightful comment it’s really great to hear your opinion, especially as you have clearly done a lot of research into these performances. I on the other hand, did no research at all and just reacted to the vocal performance using my knowledge as a vocal coach. I don’t speculate when I have my coaching hat on at all, I comment on exactly what I’m hearing from a technique point of view which is my professional skill set. I’m not here to discuss in depth things such as arrangement. I agree with all your points about her nailing it and that it’s a risky song to sing live etc and I’m thrilled to see she is getting all the credit she deserves for her awesome live rendition. You might find that vocal coaches use the same language because they are speaking about things that are factual and not up for debate. Her larynx position, tongue position, vowels & diphthongs, resonance placement, twang use etc are NOT my or anyone else’s opinion, they are facts, which is the main reason I started this channel- to discuss factual vocal technique. The wonderful miracle that is Lady Gaga is lucky to have you as a fan. Your passion for her is real and I admire it immensely. Love, The Fairy Voice Sheep 🐑 💜 hehe xo
@TheFairyVoiceMother
@TheFairyVoiceMother 3 жыл бұрын
Also, to correct you, this language IS professional- eg. I make a living from my factual knowledge of this stuff. Your “opinion” and speculating on what you like and don’t like is the opposite- what one would call an “amateur” or “fan” perspective. 💜

#LateToThePartyAgain. Intuitively (necessarily) I knew that Lady Gaga's Superbowl National Anthem was great (and once again thanks to all those who destroyed the value of our language's superlatives -- including me TBH). It was satisfying to have TFVM validate that particular opinion of mine. What remains inexplicable is why a singer with such gifts chooses to make herself a figure of ridicule. Great work, TFVM.

I would like to see you analyze the Whitney Houston version. She kind of set the gold standard for this song which everyone compares themselves against. She had an angelic voice for someone who was battling so many demons, and it would be nice to hear her again, along with an explanation of just what made her great. BTW, the part I like best is that you don't fangirl over everything and are willing to hand out criticism too. No need to apologize for that.

Such a great video, I really loved your analysis! I’m wondering if you’ve seen her sing the national anthem in 2013 at the NYC pride rally? I’ve noticed her vibrato has definitely changed (widened?) over the years as well, and her voice has also changed a fair bit within the past 2 years. She had a heavy smoking phase between 2019-2020, which definitely affected her vocals during that time period. She sounds a lot better now compared to mid 2019-early 2020, but I also wonder if it has affected her voice in the long term. (Not to mention her having fibromyalgia, which may also affect the vocal chords)
@TheFairyVoiceMother
@TheFairyVoiceMother 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this wonderful insightful comment Anthony! God bless her, fibromyalgia!?!? That’s awful. What she does is a miracle without a chronic condition- i had no idea she had those kind of odds stacked against her. She might just be my favourite pop star ever!🤩 You’re right, smoking does have a significant effect on our vocal cords. It heats them up so much that it effectively torches them which means they can’t close as cleanly (which is how we make sound). Therefore, smokers have a raspier sounding voice (because air escapes between the chords when they can’t close fully) and they also have a little more difficulty keeping them together when they stretch them (which is how we sing high). I have never looked into fibromyalgia in relation to the voice but I certainly will. This makes a lot of sense now you mentioned it. Thanks so much again 💜

Very interesting comparison! (Yes I've binged all your videos 😅) I thought the arrangements suited each occasion quite well. The inauguration was tight and controlled while the Superbowl had more fireworks. Perhaps I'm reading too much into the final cadence but in the Superbowl version she does the bVI -bVII - I which is uplifting and energising perfect for the big game moment while the Inauguration ended with a spicy redemption cadence like a weird IVb13 to I. Noice

How they can time the jets like that absolutely blows my mind. Like how do you position a jet down to the second? Or is there some sort of give and take with the pacing of the song? And how would they coordinate that with the jets in real time?
