Dio is one of the great rock vocalists of all time.
I had the privilege of warming up for him on a couple of occasions, and bumped into him personally several times in LA.
Just an absolute monstrous voice.
I felt like I was doing a dis-service to the rock world if I didn't do a vocal reaction to him.
I have also recorded a medley of Dio that is on my channel.
His tone, open throat technique, range power, stamina, perfect pitch and overall entraining performances certainly earn him the right to claim the title of King Of Metal.
I hope you find this information helpful and informative.

As an opera singer I LOVE how Ronnie James sings. It is so satisfying to hear him singing in a controlled classically supported way but in rock, heavy metal style. I miss that connection to the 'gut' when I hear a lot of pop or rock singers just singing in the mask or with various tricks, cutting off singing lines etc.... He also pays a lot of attention to the words he is singing, he is just a great example.

One of my biggest let-downs. Went to Konocti Harbor, CA in 2002 and Dio opened for the Scorpions. Got there too late (three hour trip), and only caught the last song. DIO has to have one of, if not the best operatic rock voices of ALL TIME. Yes, check out Heaven and Hell Album, Black Sabbath.

The most awesome thing about RJD is that at first, you think he is singing with this super guttural note in the chest range. Then you try and sing it, and realize he is singing it a full octave higher. Those notes are all A4s and up. These are so growly, it's deceiving.

I honestly can't think of another more influential vocalist in metal. I know lots of people love Geoff Tate and Rob Halford, but this guy had everything. He had the soft, sweet tones and he had that monstrous belting sound he was so known for and everything in between. Just a masterful singer, performer and a brilliant lyricist as well. Something else he had was a stage presence that certainly set him apart. He lived inside his songs. He was one of a kind and is sorely missed. We love you RJD. RIP!

@@jeffkemp6689 Hee said that and It means, "I love you." He said his grandmother told him that. For that to mean "I love you" his thumb would have to be sticking out. My wife is a licensed interpreter for the deaf. He also said that he didn't believe there was a heaven or a hell. "It's what you make of it here." I wish he was living today because he is brilliant and would have so much more evidence to come to a more definitive conclusion. I literally pray for so many of these guys. I KNOW what I was told I would need to do. He was very dark in his lyrics, jovial to his fans, and a complete ass to Vivian Campbell when they both were fighting cancer and Viv tried to patch up whatever their rift truly was. We'll never know because of the spin but I heard him say something to the effect of, "He doesn't even play metal!" He was referring to Vivian needing to support his family and playing in Def Leppard. I sometimes think Ronnie forgets about his "Doo-Wop" days with is hair slicked back in "Ronnie James Dio and the Prophets." Regarding Vivian, the sacrifice he had to make as a player to mainly play rhythm to Phil Collins, who is no slouch, but Viv can do things Phil could never dream of. Then add on his time in Whitesnake and now his tribute to the guy, "Thee Last in Line." Don't forget Ritchie Blackmore gave him, Graham Bonnet, David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes their BIG BREAKS and if Ritchie wasn;'t a the Rainbow the night ELF was playing, he may not have ever got his chance.

Ken you're the Man, open throat technique and compression is soooo important in Rock/Metal music. I used to kill my voice in half a song before I knew how to use it. Love your 80's Music, reactions & channel, keep rockin', and please do me a Bride (Dale thompson) cover:)

No voice teacher can ever teach you to sound like Dio. Unique sound, youre either born with it or not. A great mix of twang, growl and rock screams. 110% charismatic voice.

But it's not Twang, Dio is singing in full chest voice here, it's very noticeable by the placement of the vowels and the projection.

Both your recorded and prompt #performance is #Singing killer mr. Ken! The skilled tallend of Dio, who believed that he was gifted with cobviction, is musically above his past darkeness exemplified in challenging songs like Heaven&Hell (Order&Chaos).

Awesome video. I love your appreciation for the music and Dio. I’ve been a huge Dio fan for a long time. I never heard anything about his dark side. Could you tell me more, Ken? You’re the Man.

this was a great episode , it was really exciting to see Dio in hockey arenas around the Tri State area , at that time , you remind me of the enthusiasm we had for the music . It was like a Left turn from Van Halen .

Hey Ken, love these reaction videos. With that, i'd love to see you react to Zeppelin- Kashmir, live in Knebworth 79'. I think Plant really showcases his abilities, and would love to hear your comments on them. Blessings and peace Ken!
