Loved your reaction! The hut 2 3 4 March He did in the beginning of the song he would do often. Occasionally he would state “I learned to do that in the army”. The jamming the microphone in his throat also was just many things he would do in a concert that was just Elvis being Elvis. I saw Elvis Presley in concert on July 20, 1975 in Norfolk Scope Colosseum. I was 18 years old. It was the most amazing concert I have ever been to and I’ve been to several. From the moment he walked out the audience went out of their minds crazy and pretty much stayed that way. You never took your eyes off him because you would miss something if you did. No one ever knew what was coming next. He owned the stage and the audience in the palm of his hand. What a performer he was!! He sold out the concert so quickly he added a night concert which sold out also. Both concerts sold out in just a handful of hours. He was the sellout king.

This was done in Vegas! He was undoubtedly the very best entertainer, ever! The sounds that he is making at the beginning, are the start of the cadence when military would start to march! FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE! At this time, there was no autotune, no musical enhancement, whatsoever! Raw ELVIS! LOVE IT! And, the note was a death threat which came out in the paper, the next day! There were several attempts on his life! He was the KING! He also was the very best singer, ever! When there was a song where he was not joking around, he could literally take your breath away! He was and still is amazing! What is so extremely amazing to me, is the fact, that almost 50 years after his demise, he is still relevent today! Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gth2dtx_sty-h58.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

This was in Vegas and having been to 2 of his shows, back then people dressed up. He did 2 shows a night every night for 5 weeks straight, and his their manager got 50%. He was beautiful in person even my husband had to admit it. He loved to play he loved his fans and fooled around a lot. He was a kind and generous man. I like your expression about his band is glued to him. His drummer, Ronnie Tutt, said that you had to watch him all the time, because you never knew, what he was going to do. I have loved Elvis for 55 years now and love to see the younger generations discover him ❤

From a singing standpoint, you would really love reacting to the finale of his 1968 Comeback Special where they wanted him to do a Christmas song and he insisted on doing this song written specifically for him as a tribute to MLK and just the general strife of the time, as Elvis was decimated by the assassination which had happened not long before and not far from where he lived in Memphis. He gives it his all and don't miss the mic drop moment at the end. From a singing while truly emoting standpoint, it is amazing. A truly historical performance. You can't miss it, he's in a white suit with a red tie and his name behind him. It is live to a studio audience for a televised Christmas special and his manager and some of the producers were really furious that he insisted on doing it rather than the Christmas song that they had picked out which was Here Comes Santa Claus. He felt he had to do something meaningful and he just hit a grand slam. One of the most amazing performances ever.

No special effects, no dancers, just one man and you could not take your eyes off him. I know I saw him live in 1973 and never again in our life time.

Elvis was in a league of his own, the complete entertainer, he was god gifted with all the right attributes. I really do not know of any performer who is comparable nor will be remembered and talked about in another 50 years time as I am sure Elvis will be.

This is 1970....Elvis looking as good as he ever did owning that stage...Ur right it was in the middle of the show with the sweat and his hair flat...the thing he was reading was a note from an audience member...Ur guess is as good as mine as to what it said but he certainly didn't get rid of it ..drummer, Ronnie Tutt was as tight as ever watching Elvis's every move as there was no choreography...just Elvis feeling it ...and people were dressed smart because it was Las vegas International Hotel...nice reaction

Wow, when thinking of the 80's and 90's all the big stars reacted to the music with over choeography. The King was the music and moved with the groove. Blown away by this! Has to be a reason Graceland is only 2nd to the whitehouse in annual tourists. His first generation fans are not going.. It's 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations now.. Never be another like Elvis..

This is one of Elvis' early Vegas shows fyi :) You are so right at 8:00 when you say he's conducting that orchestra. The band members have said they never took their eyes off him. Sometimes you'll see Elvis look back at the band and say "watch me" :) Spectacular musicianship. The conductor of the orchestra that was part of the band said Elvis had the best timing he'd ever seen.. he said Elvis' timing was like a metronome. :) Have a beautiful day!

I think you'll find that the note tucked in his macrame belt, was from when he earlier walked through the audience kissing countless ladies in the middle of " Love me Tender ", and may well have been a young, or not so young ladies room or phone number !!

He pulled out a note given to him by a fan earlier in the show that he tucked away in his belt. Some unknown reason during this song, he found the note and read it on spot.

Elvis is on stage in Vegas! He’s wearing one of his many famous jumpsuits. He started wearing them so he could move around and also do his karate moves. Yes, he’s missed and the greatest artist in my opinion and simply FABULOUS ❤️

The stance Elvis is using here is one of the karate stances he sometimes incorporated. He had his 8th degree black belt. If you can get a hold of the "25th Anniversary" dvd with his band members who talk about their time with him and how they had to watch him as they didn't know if a song was going to be 2 minutes or 5 minutes. Most of his backup singers with the exception of Kathy Westmoreland were also there performing. ❤

Elvis would receive notes repeatedly from female audience members. This is from Vegas, the Aug. 12 1970 midnight show. It's pure performance and less of a vocal masterpiece than some of the songs he performed (check out his 1970 performance of "BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER" to get a real sense of his true vocal range and dynamic control) but just a ton of rockabilly fun.

Elvis would keep a list of Celebrities in the audience that night. He was reminding himself who was there that night. After Polk Salad Annie, Elvis would take a breath her to introduce his band members, then introduce the celebrities in the audience.

And he was doing this two shows a night for 30 straight nights.

When he stopped and read the note, it was from a lady who gave it to him from the audience in the show before. He put it in his belt. During this show he just rediscovered it. And took the time to read it. Huh that's Elvis. Elvis did what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it. Once again that is what Elvis does.

A few things about Elvis: he was a visual feast for the eyes and his concerts played more like jam sessions. I always thought he’d have made a very good stripper. The man single-handedly made cool things that had previously been considered uncool. Truly a maestro.

When Elvis was on stage, he was in complete control. Not a hotel owner's no one was in charge of Elvis when he was on stage the band watched him very carefully every move he made they accented on. That's what made him the king. He loved to have fun. He did strange things occasionally on stage for his entertainment and for the entertainments of the people in the band and also the entertainment of the people in the audience. That's what made him the king of rock and roll.

1970 Las Vegas -- back when people dressed nicely to go out, & behaved better. This was filmed over 6 performances by MGM for the DVD "That's The Way It Is." Poke Sallet (correct spelling) from the poisonous Pokeweed plant that picked in the spring can be cooked & eaten. "Hut 2 3 4" is military marching cadence from his days in the Army. He wasn't really all that sweaty here at this point YET! Elvis joked a lot on stage & off & sometimes changed the words of a song at the last minute. You never knew what he was going to do, he never repeated himself, never did the same thing 2ce. Pls know that Elvis had a genetic condition A-1 antitrypsin causing COPD/emphysema which began yrs. earlier & at some point needed an inhaler to help him breath. He also had painful glaucoma & the super bright house lights & stage lights were hard on his eyes.
