But isn’t the point of a studio recording that the vocals sound as close to perfect as possible? You SHOULD have at least MOST-Not all- of the rough edges smoothed out. So now we have a studio record that has great songs, but with really subpar vocals. Also, some of this also has to do with terrible vocal choices by Bruce. You have to modify your voice to suit your CURRENT abilities. Some of his vocal work on Book of Souls is barely listenable.

@@CoffeeMatt10 I understand that. But Bruce sounds pretty bad on a lot of this record. My point is you have to clean up the bad sounding notes before you commit it to a audio recording that will be in the world for people to listen to forever. When you sing live, you can afford not to be at the top of your game.

@@antonlarter1113 Comparing Bruce now to Bruce 20-30 years ago? Personally, I think the vocals are excellent considering his age and the fact he had throat cancer. I could not imagine this album being sung by Bruce 20-30 years ago.. it would not sound right to me.

Yeah, that intro was top notch. I love how they played that movie which distracts you so you don't notice Bruce sneak onto the stage.

Don’t forget this was still being recorded as Bruce had cancer and after he had to undergo treatment, that will have included a total ban on singing.

He ended up retraining his voice to a degree (I think more for strength and stamina purposes) after the treatment, and imo it sounds better now than it did 10 years ago around The Final Frontier cycle.

@@CoffeeMatt10 As good as Bruce sounds now, I believe he was far more well rounded and powerful in his voice during The Final Frontier. He had that clear signature tone, which I think he has switched out with a sharper sound

@@MichaelHolmgaard i saw them on the Book of Souls tour, Bruce is as good now with as much power, tone and control as he did on the powerslave tour. if not more.

@@neil.HobbyPositive Bruce definitely had a lot more power during the Powerslave tour. He was extremely tired during the few shows they did at Long Beach, but if you listen to all of the bootlegs from other shows, Bruce sounded absolutely killer. Not saying he wasn't good during the Book of Souls tour, but I think people make him better than he was. Bruce sounded great on The Book of Souls tour, but you can hear how he had to use a different technique on the high notes, which made the tones more sharp and not as clear. Sometimes he was able to do things like classic Bruce, but he needs to adjust a lot now, applying that sharper tone to his voice. He does it even more now on Legacy of the Beast. Sometimes it sounds good, but I prefer his clear high notes during The Final Fronier. He still sounds amazing though - His chest voice has a lot of strength 🙏

I genuinely don’t understand why people say his voice is as good now as it was even 10 years ago. He’s 62 and the recent live album clearly shows that both age and illness have impacted his voice. There’s nothing wrong with saying his voice has aged, it’s not bad it just different. There are some songs he shouldn’t still be singing and there are some he can still belt out. He’s still got buckets of talent but there’s no denying it’s changed.

I went to that show too, fantastic performance. I feel his voice sounds better now than it did 10 years ago. It’s almost like having the cancer and subsequent treatment was a blessing in disguise because he felt the need to do some retraining on his voice, and it sounds like he has definitely benefited from it. Rob Halford proved on Judas Priest’s latest album that even in their ‘twilight years’, singers can still reach deep into their voices to find notes they were hitting in their peak years (he was hitting notes on Firepower that were almost as high some he hit on Screaming For Vengeance, albums that are 35 years apart!) Side note: I saw Maiden at Download 2013, they had a Spitfire fly over the park, I said afterwards I wouldn’t be surprised if sometime in the future they have a model Spitfire fly over the stage... 5 years later they had a model Spitfire ‘flying’ over the stage! I guess I know them too well at this point 😂

He really needs to see The Red and the Black live, that one is so epic.

I was there, the weather was horrendous, but their performance was worth it. Also seeing the Ed Force One 747 at East Midlands Airport was a fantastic sight.
