Again, I'm so happy you are dedicating a month to Iron Maiden. You could do three songs a day and not get to them all. Since you are a vocal coach I highly recommend "Journeyman" - Death on the Road (HD). I think it's a real showcase of Bruce's voice in an acoustic song. Also, "Paschendale" from the same album would be great. Those two songs really contrast each other.

Bruce is a pretty fascinating character. He is a world class fencer as well, being an alternate for the British fencing team. I think that his passion for that also exposed him to those subjects more than most people. He was dedicated to his swordsmanship as well as his music. They both drove him. It stands to reason that he would sing what he knows, and things like the charge of the light brigade, the basis for the trooper, were things he studied both for their amazing subject matter, but also the combat techniques that they gave lesson to. And, if that weren't enough, he is a licensed airline pilot, survived throat cancer, and still sounds amazing.

The backing vocals at this time was done by Adrian (guitarist) and Steve (bassist) live, but Adrian is the one who appears in several songs recorded in studio. He was a vocalist of his own band before joining Iron Maiden. The difference in tone between the lyrics and the "movie" that intersects the video, I think, was done at the time to "lighten the mood" of the song, since this song was release as the first single of the album.

It's been written by others but to collect under one comment, Adrian Smith's vocals in order: - Urchin (his band before Maiden. 1978 if I remember correctly ) - Reach Out ( Iron Maiden B-side single ) - Adrian Smith and Project ( A.S.A.P.) Released only one album called Silver and Gold, 1989 - Smith/Kotzen self titled 2021album Smith does the vocals and plays the guitar and does most of the song writing in these works with the exception of the last one where he trades vocals, guitars and pretty much everything with Richie Kotzen. He's got those rasp vocals .My suggestion would be to listen to a title from "Silver and Gold"

I mean the man not only read frank herberts complete dune saga, he also wrote two heavymetal songs about it !! As far as I concerned they deserve a spot right up there with other heady bands; rush, pink floyd, and jethro tull.. what a hell of a time to grow up 🤟
