Well, this is unexpected... As an Israeli I am not used to peolle reacting to this. Also, small note on the guttural sounds: Ofra was of Jewish-Yemenite decent. And so her CH/KH sound sometimes has a different sound, like waaay back in the throat. As opposed to modern Hebrew CH/KH, it might sound much harsher OR softer, depending on the speaker/singe.r By the way, she also sang in the English (and Hebrew) versions of Disney's Prince of Egypt OST. Love the reactions.

Ofra Haza was the greatest singer this world has ever seen, IMO, and although she sang many wonderful songs throughout her life, some in English, German, French and Arabic in addition to her native Hebrew -- this song was her masterpiece. She was a truly incredible performer, and a beautiful woman inside and out. Sadly, she is no longer with us -- she passed away on February 23, 2000 -- but her beautiful music lives on!

In the 80’s I heard her song ‘Galbi’ (heart). I was shocked. I thought I have never heard such a beautiful voice. And the backing music had me in awe. Ofra was actually born in Yemen. Many of her songs were of Yemenite origins.

Audiowise-not only this recording was of a live performance (Israel's independence day central ceremony), but also took place in an open site, not even a proper (outdoor) music theater. That is why there were all sorts of unclear sounds. I don't think it is about the sound engineering capabilities. Besides that, and the most important thing is that Ofra Haza was a world class singer ,who could shook one's soul with her tiny bell-like fast vibrato . Beyond amazing.

Ofra Haza is my favorite singer and this song is one of her very best. I'm so glad you enjoyed listening to it. :) If I had to pick a favorite, it's probably the medley "Tzur Menati/Sei Yona/Sapri Tamah" from her album Yemenite Songs. The entire Yemenite Songs album and the Kirya album are her best works in my opinion.

Ofra Chaza had an exceptional outstanding voice. When she was singing live she blew the audience away, regardless of what she sang. Shes one of a kind. Unfortunately, we lost this amazing innocent lady on February 2000 due to HIV complications. As many other posted here, Ofra sang the Walt Disney soundtrack "deliver us" in many languages. I miss Ofra since the day she died and still listening to her music every once in a while. I loved your reaction very much 👍

The way that she held that note without losing the quality of it. I’ve always been partial to sustained notes without vibrato anyway. But the clarity of it…? And I love the melisma that she was doing right after. Such a talented lady. And I feel the emotion of this song without really understanding what it’s about.

There are 4 guttural consonants in Hebrew (Chet, Ayin, Reish, and Hey). Chet and Ayin are grouped together grammatically. Reish and Hey are also grouped together. Some would say the Soft Khaf is also guttural.

You can follow the Hebrew words and translation in English. Very special words with deep meaning especially for Jewish people in praise of the city of Jerusalem This song became an anthem of hope during the 6Day War in 1967. It is an emotional song for the eternal capital A tragic ending to such a beautiful person , absolute tragedy
