Aretha had cancer and no one knew during this, Cissy was likely developing Alzheimers around this time. This was around 2 years after her daughter died the following year her granddaughter would pass away too. I see two black women standing despite obstacles and doing their best. Cissy was doing the best she could at the time. She herself had been singing for decades...she has nothing to prove to anybody.

We share very different opinions. I am here to protect them. “these runs” and “a show to distract us” are what helped payroll many individuals in the black community including the civil rights movement. These women’s music was the balm that got us through many terrible pains. Their craft and musicality are sampled, interjected, and emulated by all musical genres… EVEN by these two hosted gunslingers as they take cheap shots.

I think Aretha did a great job of blending these songs and mashing them up and showing you how similar Adele's running in the deep and her vocal runs were to Diana Ross's vocal runs on Ain't no mountain high enough especially at the ending of the song. I think Aretha is an incredible singer and she has such a great ear for music that she noticed that and she wanted to show that and reflect it by matching these songs up. That's what I got out of it. I still love to Miss Cissy Houston and I thought they were entertaining and I loved it I'm here for it. Y'all had my crying 😭😂🤣😂😂😂😂👍
@nakeyaguy13642 жыл бұрын
Only a true lover of the craft understands this. I also believe Aretha rocked this and blended it well. I read Ciscey was suffering from alzheimer's disease, knowing this these guys are not funny. They don't seem to respect real singers.
@user-ut3sj3og3e5 ай бұрын
And both songs were written by Ashford and Simpson so there surely similarities. But to the makers of this video...... I thought I was going to hear a critique of Aretha's vocals and not ridiculing of Cissy Houston or Aretha's dress. She looks remarkable considering all the things going on in her life. In fact so did Cissy. Shame on you!😮😮😮
@adonai711002 жыл бұрын
Mother Cissy just lost Whitney around this time and she was very very depressed and Aretha had her join her basically to try to uplift her spirits. So no Mother Cissy was unfortunately not herself. But it was still a beautiful performance 🎭 🥰😭

At this time it was said that Cissy was really going through. Death of her daughter and Bobbi Kris stuff happening plus she was in early stage dementia. Aretha was being kind to a friend and felt having her on stage would be a good thing for her. Bless their hearts. And because Aretha is Aretha she would never be unkind to an ailing Diva like Cissy. Now that is not to back in the day she may have reacted in a whole different way.

If Aretha's performance took place after Whitney's death, this may have been the context for Cissy's performance. If I am not mistaken, Aretha was one of Cissy's oldest and dearest friends. Aretha stated that she couldn't attend Whitney's funeral because of issues with her feet only to perform at Carnegie Hall later that evening. That would understandably be hurtful to Cissy. I don't know what else transpired but it is very sad to see that this happeded to the legends. That being said, my father was a die hard Aretha fan-she could do no wrong. He used to say two things about her. When I was young and wanted to sing, he would tell me to lock myself in a room and immerse myself in Aretha. He also used to say that if he hadn't married my mom, he would have married Aretha. (smile) You two are classy men and vocalists and you have something valuable to say about singers we like. In the future, could you do some reactions to Martha Wash, Joshua Rogers, Tarralyne Ramsey, Keke Wyatt, Debelah Morgan, Oleta Adams, Lalah Hathaway, jazmine Sullivan and the like? Thank you and be blessed in all you do.

Whitney had passed not too long before this performance. It might be funny to some but you never know if this was a way to get Cissy doing something fun. Actually this is one of last performances that both Aretha and Cissy are seen on a stage together.

Cissy Houston along with the Sweet Inspirations are singing on many of Aretha Franklin's huge hits back in the 60s and the 70s. Many people from Aretha era of music do use a corded mic cuz that’s what’s familiar to them but most of those people are in their 70s so many ppl see them as old. I remember watching this and I started cracking up - Cissy reminds me of my grandmother, she had this one friend who we called grandma Cheery, you'd hear her coming from up the road, she be yelling 'Hey lady', and we'd say: nan here comes grandma Cheery. My grandmother would roll her eyes and say, hurry up and put the kettle on you know she be wanting her tea (in a low voice) While grandma Cheery is sitting there she's talking flat out and my grandmother is sitting there rolling her eyes and making all these weird sighs and groans. In 1998 my grandmother died suddenly at the table while grandma Cherry was there, all we could hear was 'Hey lady! hey lady! - it was so sad. 2-months later grandma Cheery died, but for weeks after my grandmothers death she'd still come to the house and yell 'Hey lady! Now they're together still gossiping up there
