I think she's singing in her head voice for a lot of those (especially when the singer is doing a high belt) which makes it significantly easier

I definitely have my preference of Erika as Cady and Barrett as Janis but I have to say EVERY REGINA HAS BEEN INCREDIBLE. Ashley's is SO mean and manipulative, she nails that "floating above everyone else" vibe. LOVE her!

Great video! Ashley is, IMO, the most underrated Regina. Many were skeptical of the idea of a black Regina, but I think she absolutely killed it! If you watch the whole performance, her face was so sweet until the song started, then her entire demeanor changed. She's perfect for the character! Can you react to Abby Mueller's Heart of Stone or Samantha Pauly's All You Wanna Do? Edit: since the #Hamilfilm is out, can you react to anyone from that cast? They're all so amazing!

Every time she paused to talk about what she loved about what Ashley was doing at the end, I would listen and then pause and look on my Instagram to listen to my own cover of this to see what I could maybe do differently. I love learning about all the elements and mechanics that go into singing these songs! Ashley makes it look so effortless, but there is so much more thinking and choice that goes into her performance that I would never think of as someone who isn’t a singer. It makes me appreciate it even more!

That's a fantastic version that really accents that the song is personal. An intimate deception. Unfortunately some of that nuance -- and this goes for all Reginas -- is hard to project while you're being carried around like a suitcase. The staging of this song in the show (which I otherwise absolutely love) is criminal -- like doing My Man while being shot from a canon, or if Shirley Bassey did Goldfinger as part of a plate spinning act.

I'm not a vocal coach but I'm pretty sure everyone can belt if they work on it healthily! If you're able to see a vocal coach then that would probably be a good idea to make sure you're using a good technique :D
