Dimash - 1. Both parents are singers 2. His mother is the top Soprano of his country 3. He has been receiving vocal training since he was 5 years old 4. He was in a swimming team, which helps him hold his breath 5. He has been trained in classical music, but prefers to mix classical with pop. - he is not an alien, or a fake, or anything other than a man whose only interest has been music, he dedicates all his time to music and to training --- very hard work, for unbelievable results!!

Amen! I don't need to understand the words because his voice draws the picture for me and I feel it. Most other singers can't do that because they don't have the vocal cords that Dimash has.

That special tribal riff was achieved by vibrating the larynx and is something practiced in Kazakhstan, Mongolia and other parts of Asia. Further youtubers have commented that it is used some parts of the Middle East. It is also referred to as a "glottal stop" and used in English when we say "uh oh". A Kazakh youtuber commented: Dimash used singing kazakh technique, that called 'komeymen aytu', You can hear it from the Turan Group. Saha people ( Rus) uses this technique too, they called it 'kylyhah'.

A Kazakh youtuber mentioned that it's part of a funeral song and done as a memorial for the lead vocalist of "A Studio" who first sang "Sinful Passion", Batyrkhan Shukenov, and who died a few years ago.

@@ubervocal8777 I did notice, and thank you for adding it. I tried to find the original Kazakh commentator that told of this, but was unable to relocate the comment. I seem to recall also that the same commenter said this particular funeral song is typically sung only by women. If we could learn more about it someday, it would be awesome information for a completist.

@@Snarky_Tart We need Erlan Bekchurin's cellphone! (He's the arranger and probably the one finding just the right piece to incorporate.) On a separate topic, the script is well under way. Let me know if you would like to give input or have an early look later next week.

It’s not yodeling, its a singing technique originated from the Tibet in China. The tribe is known to produce that stuttering effect in such a angelic style. You could search the singer, Zha Xi Ping Cuo 扎西平措, the song he sang is called “春”, “Spring”. And hear him sing freely.

What you missed when you paused in the middle of that last part was that entire last phrase was done in one breath (22sec.). Also I would recommend his performance of "The Love Of Tired Swans" next. It's fun to see your face when Dimash does something that surprises you.

That magnificent sound you hear is what I would call ululation or keening. As in, mourning for his sinful passion. Totally Mid-eastern. Sounds like a paid mourner from ancient times. His despair and longing for the loss of the passionate love he can't live without is expressed gloriously in this song. I mean, wow. You need read the lyrics in English. This young man is a miracle.

Just recently, I listened to back to back songs, from Dimash, for about 45 minutes. When it was done, I realized I had a strange feeling...it was like my whole body was full of electricity and it lasted about 30 minutes before it began to subside. I have felt chills many times, from music or singing that I have heard, but that was my first time to have that experience. It was strange and wonderful at the same time. Our bodies really do respond to the frequency of sound waves. I can't be the only one that has felt this.

Dimash has total use of every aspect of his voice, and can naturally create any effects he wishes. He doesn't need artificial gimmicks to achieve any sound he desires. However, you haven't been listening to him as long as many of us so you can be forgiven. Hi Adam, Awesome reaction, when I first heard this I thought it was astounding!! Glad you concluded that "Tribal" sound was his voice, he has perfected the larynx vibrating effect and has actually employed it in quite a few performances now. 👌👌😊

The vocal "trick" he used is common among the countries in asia along what are known as the steppes, probably brought along by the varied westward invasions of mongol & other empires in the past. This is a kazakh technique called KOMEYMEN AYTU. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel and though musically challenged, enjoy the lessons on voice & vocal styles.

Hi, Adam. More please! And Happy New Year :) The effect is natural. I can't remember what it is called but it's an Arabic thing, and it's all his natural voice. I also love reading comments on Dimash reactions - it's like the United Nations meeting LOL DKIFC/USA
