Kelly Hanson was in the 80's "hair metal" band Hurricane. He was a very underrated singer because his band wasn't as popular as the top earning bands of that era.(Motley,Ratt,Poison, etc.) Definitely one of my favorites of that era.

@@eddynewton4081 That didn't hurt for sure, but they were still good. You don't get signed for being crap. You get a look, or your foot in the door, but after that it's on you. They, like a lot of bands that debuted albums in the mid to late 80's, were just a little late to the party to become as big as the first wave of hair metal bands.

I know people like originals.. but when some of the originals can't do it anymore, I respect those coming in to fill massive shoes and Kelly (ex Hurricane) on vocals and Jeff Pilson (ex Dokken) on bass are incredible talents. And it's shameful that this another band that has not yet been inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

I've always really liked this song, and Foreigner in general, but I didn't know all that much about the history of the band. I could tell as soon as he started singing that this was a different singer than on the album version, so I had to pause the video and go look it up, and I found that Lou Gramm left the band in 2003 and Kelly Hanson has been the vocalist since then. I wasn't sure what to expect when I came back to watch the video, but after hearing Kelly's vocals, I have to say he's very close to Lou in his sound (more in the higher sections of the song than the lower ones, though), and I definitely enjoyed this performance. I'm kinda sad to know Foreigner doesn't have the same singer as I grew up hearing, but I think they did a good job finding a great vocalist to replace him, one who still sounds enough like the original to feel familiar while also having his own sound and technique. 💜

He's very good, and I feel sorry for him, because he'll always have an enormous shadow hanging over him. I mean c'mon, Lou Gramm?! Arguably the best male rock voice of the late 70s/early 80s (with Steve Perry, Steve Walsh of Kansas and Rick Emmet of Triumph)

Some years back, 1997 I believe, Lou was being treated for a brain tumor at the Mayo Clinic here in Phoenix and he came into the gym where I worked out to do some of his rehab. I got to have a few conversations with him and found him to be a very kind, humble sort of fellow. I see that he is still out touring. Good for him.

No one's going to see this comment but what the Hell. I remember Foreigner being on the bill at Wacken Open Air, one of (if not THE) biggest metal festivals in the world...and I just couldn't help picturing a whole lot of hardcore, pierced, chain-and-spike wearing, tattooed, corpse painted black/death metal dudes standing in the field, faces raised to the sky, tears streaming down their face, singing their hearts out along with the Gospel choir part of this song. So heartwarming. 😂

As I was listening to this, it felt a little "off", in relation to the original version by Lou Gramm. So I pulled up another tab with that version, and it seems to me as if Kelly is doing the song in a slightly lower key. I could be wrong and I'm just being fooled by the differences in there tones (Lou's was a bit "brighter", I think). This was the first time I'd heard Kelly singing this song, but I did really enjoy his version of Say You Will (my second favorite Foreigner track after Head Games).

I was excited when I saw this in my feed, and then I was shocked. I don't know who this singer is, but Lou Gramm sang for this band when they recorded I Want to Know What Love Is. The MV is terrific as the band is joined by the Gospel Workshop of America, featuring Jennifer Holliday. At one time Rolling Stone considered it the greatest rock song ever. They have since demoted it to 479th. LOL I miss the gospel choir. I agree that the singer is excellent, but the song is lacking. For now the real Lou Gramm is going on tour, without Foreigner I believe at the start of 2022.

Always liked this song by Foreigner. The Beatles are red hot right now, and you should take advantage of that. I enjoyed your discussion on the Beach Boys "Don't Worry Baby," which impressed the Beatles, who in turn impressed the Beach Boys. It was very healthy competition, and our ears were received the benefits. You should consider discussing the vocals in a Beatles's song, perhaps something like "Nowhere Man," or "She's Leaving Home." If you really want to immerse yourself in one of the all-time greatest harmonies, do "Because." Harmony singing does not get any better than that.

I have two acts I'd like to reccomend you react to who are doing Harmonies. The first group is a Sister group that consciously focuses on continuing and adding to the tradition of vocal harmony and family harmony following "Sons of the Pioneeers" and "The Andrew Sisters" within the genre of Western Swing which incorporates Jazz, blues, swing, and country -and even Hawaiian traditions. "The Quebe Sisters" sing in triple harmony, but also started out playing triple fiddle. They have been performing since they were in their early teens. HEre is one good harony track with Groove - an area they have been stretching out into: @ The Second group comes from the American Genre of Bluegrass and "String Band" traditions. Billy Strings (ne William Apostal aka Billy Strings). Harmony is a common part of bluegrass, but more incidental usually. In his band which is composed of musicians who all grew up playing their instruments since around kindergarten they have stumbled into bringing back a throwback acapela 4 part harmony or 4 part harmony with only the simplest of accompanyment. @

With that said, Kelly has an amazing voice and he does a fantastic job honoring the song, but giving it his own feelings.
