The main reason I follow Haley is not only is she an old musical soul, but she's also an incredible live performer. I still get chills watching her perform live. She's developing as a song writer as well, you can definitely hear her influences in her original music. Hi Tusk. I consider Haley's rendition of Don't Know How to Love You with Sascha Peres orchestra as a studio version. And the one at Chess Records as a raw version. I like all of them. Probably Haley's best original so far.

@@JeffTokayer I love the Vienna performance too, but that was also a rearrangement of Haley and Anders song, it doesn't hold the 'blues' essence of the Hotel Cafe performance. The Vienna performance hasn't the home grown blues/soul sound and also absent Anders' Beatlesque guitar solos. Haley and Anders are unrepentant Beatles fans, as am I, and I hear their influences in the songs Haley and Anders write together including DKHTY. That is one of the things I noticed about Haley's recent single, Off the Ground. It's her first original release, I can think of, that I don't sense any Beatles influence. A departure for Haley if I'm right, showing growth and a willingness to evolve her sound. OTG reminds me very much of the melodies and harmonies of the early sixties, Jackson 5, Marvin Gay, Dionne Warwick, Burt Bacharrach days. It took me a while listening to it a few time until I could zone into which musical era was Haley influenced by in Off the Ground?

@@HaleysTusk Hi Tusk. I'm of European descent. I lived in 3 continents Growing up my family's household was filled with a mishmash of music. When Haley sings Don't Know How to Love You, I'm a fool to want you and No Regrets with Sascha Peres orchestra, it brings back memories of Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf, Domenico Modugno, etc. These names may not be household names in North America, but definitely elsewhere. I feel that Haley has an international flavor, and it excites me.

Thank you Missy for analyzing one of Haley's originals. She has done several and they are all fantastic. Fell in love with her on American Idol 10 years ago and have followed her since. Her vocal abilities are unmatched, imo and she knows how to get your attention not only with her voice but also her commanding stage presence. She should be at least as well known as Adele. Try another original: "Don't Know How To Love You".

Missy, so so glad you chose to review Haley's original composition here. This is a hauntingly beautiful composition, executed to perfection that SHOULD (you're right) have a billion views. As far as I can tell, you're the first to react to it...hoping you've helped to amplify her signal. And I also want to compliment you on your wonderful analysis.

One of the things I love about Haley is how she manages to insert scatting into every other song she performs, I especially love when she inserts them into her classic Rock covers, she uses her voice like an instrument. One of the more popular performances that demonstrates this on my channel is when Haley joined her American Idol buddy, Casey Abrams (He's on the keyboards on this video) at his old school to perform a cover of James Taylor's "Steamroller Blues" except that Haley doesn't sing in the performance, rather she plays a 'mouth' trumpet/harmonica: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a8p7asyc27GUj30.html When asked about scatting in a performance, she says it's mostly impromptu, but as with anything else, you need to still know where you're going, it's the path you take that makes it interesting and fun.

Love this woman's voice, I've followed her music for years and if it wasn't for PMJ people would not know about her. She has a truly great voice with more colors in that voice than a paint store

Two observations Missy in one sentence. Not only do you not have a link to the song you rave about not having 10 billion views, but you don't even list the title of the song, though you did mention your cat several times which means you're not helping her reach your goal in views.

The reason why this video has so few views is because while Haley is a world-class vocalist, at the same time when it comes to business, she is a complete and utter basket case. Which wouldn't be so bad until you come to the realization that Haley manages her own career, as opposed to emulating nearly all great singers by hiring a professional business manager and their staff to work full time to manage her. Thus, she always remains an independent artist and a very obscure and unknown independent artist. Meanwhile, because she always remains an independent artist, her own music isn't played on the radio and she isn't permitted to perform on network TV. Nonetheless, when I hear her sing, I hear a world class vocalist. The following link is to Haley's best original song of all time called "Don't Know How To Love You". Oh, a bit of advice when it comes to reacting to Haley Reinhart videos, never ever react to one of Haley's original music videos. Instead, always find the best quality live performance video you can find and react to that. Why? Because Haley is an independent artist who self-funds her own original music videos and every last one of of those low-budget original music videos more than stink to high heaven. In fact, they do her more harm than they do her good. Personally, I wish she would do just a plain Jane performance video with her band, as opposed to those always exceedingly lame original music videos of her.
