My mom happened to be in Hawaii when they celebrated his life and scattered his ashes. It was an incredible sight.

He passed away at age 38. He was 739 pounds at the time he passed. He got the idea for this rendition at 2am and called the studio asking if he could come down and record it before he lost the vibe. He was so polite and nice that they opened up the recording studio and got someone in and this was recorded in one take. His agent was a very close friend who promised him that he would continue to release his music and help support his family. I was there in 2001 and his stuff was EVERYWHERE. Yes, the scene in the water was of his memorial when they poured his ashes into the sea at his favorite beach. ......and he speaks good English because he was from Hawaii. You NEED to check out some of his other music. His voice is absolutely haunting.

This version always makes me think of the series ER. Specifically, a character's final episode. There's also a beautiful rendition by him with "What a Wonderful World" included.

IZ is an inspiration and was loved by all. I was at Makua when they spread his ashes from the Hokule'a. Cars stopped along the 2 lane road leading to Ka'ena bringing traffic to a stand-still. Hundreds of people were wading in the water and hundreds more were on land. A procession of big rigs blew and held their horns echoing through the valley while his ashes were placed into the ocean making it sound as if the State of Hawaii was crying . . . it's a moment I will never forget. An incredible celebration of life for an incredible man!!

"Over the Rainbow" is the opening song made famous in the classic movie "Wizard of Oz", sung by the wonderful actress Judy Garland. This particular version of it is also one of my favorites. Israel did an amazing job with it, and has now made his version of it a classic also. Sadly, he passed away too young, but as you said, left a beautiful musical legacy. You should find the Wizard of Oz movie (it still appears on cable tv sometimes) and watch it. It is full of memorable music and characters!

Yes that was a Hawaiian funeral. And yes, he did sadly passed away and an early age. I'm pretty sure it was something related to his weight such as problems with his heart. He also does a cover of what a wonderful world that is really good.

If you like Braddah Iz, you should react to "Hawaiian Superman" (it talks about the Polynesian "demigod" Maui, brought into wide popular culture by Moana as played by the Rock) and "Hawaii 78" which talks about the sovereignty of Hawaii and how things have changed.
