The sad part about this song is that it's dedicated to his mother, who abandonded him at an orphanage, and whenever she would visit, he would realize what a cruel person she was. One of his best songs, that sadly, hides a very dark story.

The song is not about his mother. “It was released in 1986 as the third single from his studio album Pensamientos. Written and produced by Gabriel, the song's lyrics focus on a protagonist learning the meaning of suffering after meeting a lover who mistreats him.” The song written for his mother after her passing is: Amor Eterno. “Juan Gabriel wrote “Amor Eterno” as a “prayer of love” for his mother, who died when the artist was in his 20s and just starting his career as a musician.”

This concert was at the Palacio de Bella Artes, which is like our Carnigie Hall. It is a very proper place. So for him to have people up and out of their chairs dancing, was really something. This song says that he was really happy in his life until he met this woman and after he met her is when he began to suffer because she treated him badly. Please check out Amor Eterno by Juan Gabriel because that song will make you feel a way. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to more.

Correction; México could be machist but homofobic is a very horrible word! We use to make tons of jokes of homo but that's nothing more than the way mexicans use to laugh of everything, even the death suffers the mexican humor. In Mexico we use to practice funeral rites at home and all we know how much we use to tell funny hiistories and jokes, obviously not in the presence of the loved one in his coffin but in the yard, under the light of lamps and next to a bonfire, sometimes playing a guitar with the favourite songs of the one that is being honored bc he or she are going back home

As a Gabriel admirer, I am informed and corrected by other commenters who better know Juan's history. He was loved as a child, and happy until he was abandoned by his mother, and experienced insecurity and, in my opinion, childhood trauma, before his success. The song speaks of betrayal that occurs with both family and others in one's life. Juan Gabriel's flair, drama, sexuality and sensual pride were monumental! He's a national treasure, a human force, a Mexican icon and singular in the universe.

I start listening to Juan because of my mom, she loved his passion for singing. My mom passed 3 months ago at her wake my niece sang "Amor Eterno" she had the whole room in tears. She was so loved by all, missing her terribly 😭

Reading both y'all comments put a knot in my throat and tear in my eyes. Mom is still alive and well and have heard this song with her many times. And always makes me reflect on how it will feel to lose her. She's 67 years old and pray she'll be with us many years more.

I'm from Cd Juarez, Chihuahua and proud to say that, although Juan Gabriel wasn't from there persé, he was proud to say he was! He was born in the state of Michoacan and his mother brought him to Juarez but had to leave him at an orphanage so she could work as a live-in maid. Once he made some money, he bought the house where his mom worked as a gift to her. That house was just about 8 blocks from my house! He later bought the property behind that house and it is now a school of music for children who have no other family. Anyway, I was raised in Chicago and every time I would go back to Juarez, I would make sure to buy whatever cassette tapes of his I may have missed since being there last. I had this thing about playing them over and over until I learned all the songs (the hardest to learn was BESAME). I also liked translating them into English so, long story short, I hope this helps... HASTA QUE TE CONOCÍ - Until I met you Didn't know about sadness or tears or anything that would make me cry. I knew about caresses, of tenderness because since I was little, that's what mamá taught me. That's what mamá taught me. That and many other things. I had never suffered. I had never cried. I was very happy. I lived very well... And, ok, I guess u figured out how to get captions in English. I'll leave you to it and I'll get to enjoy'n d'vid. 😁

I have listened to Juan Gabriel since I was a kid but it was only recently that I started listening to him as a 22 year old and I was absolutely blown away by his art. His performance and stage presence is breathtaking and transcends time, screens, and language. Check out his songs like “Ya Lo Se Que Tu Te Vas” or “Te Lo Pido Porfavor,” it’s the same romantic tragic vibe (although most of his songs are like that anyway lol). He’s an actual legend.

It is Spanish, and the song talks about how he lived clueless and happy until he fell in love, then he knew about suffering, like he was taken for granted, he said i was happy, but with just a little love, yes the one that got away... Love your video and appreciation for the Hispanic culture. He was a great interpreter!

He made the list on The Rolling Stones top vocalist of all time. He’s an icon. Check out videos on KZfaq of him and Rocio Durcal. Also, I recommend Juan Gabriel’s Abrazeme Muy Fuerte at Bella Artes. Amor eterno has become a mourning song. If you learn Spanish it will make you cry. When Kobe Bryant died mariachis played Amor Eterno as a tribute to Kobe Bryant and his daughter. Also he has written 1800 songs.
