ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.
Subscribe to Rebecca Vocal Athlete to get inspired by new videos!
Have a great day!!
Rebecca

He said in an interview that it's hard for him to write as angry songs now. What do I have to be angry about now. He's living out of the dump known as San Franshitsco. He should get angry after having the world by the tail and apparently, heading back to rehab. I could like James. But I know that they had a vision when Lars and him started. But Lars is brutal as a drummer. I've played with more great drummers you;'ll never hear about. Although George Lynch jammed with my drummer once and put his arm around me and said, "If I wasn't such a nice guy I'd be taking your drummer back to L.A." He got there on his own thank you.

Maybe the video and audio was a little out of sync too, but some songs are really hard to count for a classic note reader and therefore as hard to notate correctly. There are ongoing debates on some songs how they are notated (Master for instance) rythmwise.

Just FYI. This is not a random song. James Hetfield (singing) and Cliff Burton (R.I.P.) were both H.P. Lovecraft fans, and got the rest of the band into the novels. This song is a specific reference the the Lovecraft story The Shadow Over Innsmouth written in 1936. The song does a good job of depicting the creeping doom of the story. /nerd off

AFAIK, at this point in time James was THE vocalist of Metallica - because originally he with Lars just put together a band, with him as temporary vocalist (they were searching for a vocalist in their early career). But then again they were kinda broke and when the band in the face of James, Kirk and Cliff were thinking of sacking Lars around after MoP, Tragedy struck and Cliff died. Then, Jason, seen in vid, joined Metallica, and this is not even 3 years after Cliff died, so there was no plans of stopping and no looking for new members as they almost were left with just two guitars - an imperfect vocalist and rhythm and an imperfect lead (but what's bad about being imperfect? Metallica made their shit WORK). After what happened, they went on their second longest band formation, with Jason on bass for 13 years (Cliff played for 4 and Robert now plays longer than both for 20)

I cant stand the orchestral arrangements/additions on any of the projects they used them on... They do nothing to add to the song, and just make it way too busy. There songs are already composed so well with just the four instruments and overdubs. Literally all they had to do was get a few musicians on some classical instruments to take the spot of some of the overdubs, or to just play pedal notes or something, and it would be so much better than the convoluted mess that any of the orchestral projects were.

@@glumsulk I kinda agree. On some of their hotter and faster and louder songs it totally is just a whole mess, but even the little addition of violins strucking during the 000 chuggy-chugg riff in chorus just turn S&M into their own thing. Doesn't have to be awesome, just a different experiece

The weird hand thing that kirk(lead guitarist) was doing was kind of a percussive technique. He was basically muting the strings as much as possible so that they wouldn’t produce a pure note while using a wah pedal(or maybe a phaser) to sweep through the frequency range. Just adds a cool kinda creepy and menacing effect to the music. It’s easier shown than explained though lol

@@devonmills1968 not many people did, because it's so hard to do by ear, he mimicked guitar parts and guitar lines so well it was hard to tell without tabliture what he did or what was a James or Kirk guitar part. that is still something that is hard to do even with their later stuff with them doing so many harmonized guitar lines. looking at the tabs you could see a song with 8 guitar lines but 6 of them could only be a couple bars long. so many people diss this band but if they were to really sit and study their music like that they would see how much genius there is to their songwriting approach. Cliff taught them well. they knew how before him but you can tell from ride the lightning on down that he and kirk taught Lars And James well.

En route, my brother drove my car and blew my left front tire 45 min into the 2 hour trip. Surely we would miss them. Found a discount, I took the wheel and hauled ass, and we made it as the first opener played. Your time will come friend. The thing I love about this song is that it's all an anecdote for H. P. Lovecraft's mythos. The "thing that should not be" likely refers to Cthulhu, especially with that one lyric famously taken from Lovecraft's stories: "Not dead which eternal lie, stranger eons death may die," a play on the quote "that is not dead which can eternal lie, and with stranger eons even death may die". Other parts of the lyrics are also references, such as "crawling chaos underground" (a reference to Nyarlathotep, a deity in Lovecraftian mythos referred to as the "Crawling Chaos") and "out from ruins once possessed, fallen city living death" (a reference to R'lyeh, the underwater dead city that is home to Cthulhu). It's one of my favorite Metallica songs just because of how much I like reading Lovecraft's stories.

I always enjoy your reaction videos, and this one is no exception. Metallica has been my favorite band for thirty years now, so I found this one especially enjoyable. Some information on James and his voice: he blew out his voice recording a B-side track (a cover of Anti-Nowhere League's "So What") for the album after this (the eponymous "Metallica", known more widely as "The Black Album"). He did vocal rehabilitation, and ever since then he has so far as I know followed a strict regimen of vocal exercises/warmups before every show. You may find if of interest that after "...And Justice For All" (the tour for which spawned this video), James learned to actually SING, as opposed to simply "yelling in key" as he once described it. This was first heard on the tracks "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" from the aforementioned Black Album, but I think it is best showcased several albums later on a song called "The Unforgiven III". I would recommend you check out (and possibly do a reaction video for?) a song called "Spit Out The Bone" from their latest album, "Hardwired to Self Destruct". I was pleased to see him return to "yelling in key" on the heavier numbers from that album, but "Spit Out The Bone" features a passage where he uses his **singing** voice right in the middle of one of their heaviest and fastest songs, and the effect is pretty damned cool. Sorry about the long comment, but I'm a musician myself, and perhaps the only thing I enjoy more than talking about music in general is talking about my favorite band. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing more videos from you in the future. Cheers.

When she says "I haven't noted him doing any vibrato yet," he has done a couple notes vibrato earlier in the video. James has always used vibrato selectively, making it more powerful when he does use it rather than some singers that way over do it and keep it constant throughout a whole song. James definitely does vibrato more often these days though, especially live, and I think that's partially because he has lost some of the grit and rasp he could get when he was young.
