In the early 80s I was in a well-known local LA band.
This band played around all of the major local clubs including Gazzarris, The Troubadour, Madam Wong's West, The Roxy, The Whiskey, Coconut Teaszer, The Palomino, The Starwood (where Van Halen was signed on a rainy empty room Wednesday night) and many others.
I bring this up because this band I was in was on the hunt for a record deal as were all "Sunset Strip" bands.
We finally did land a few deals, one of which was with Dieter Dirks (the producer of The Scorpions).
In addition to getting to get up close and personal with the band on the Monsters Of Rock festival we attended, I also flew to Germany twice to work with Dieter and his band ACCEPT.
Getting to see the hard work ethic of the Scorpions, their very professional attitude, their killer songwriting and musicianship, it was a privilege and honor to see the inner-workings of the group.
I did do a vocal version myself of the song "Still Loving You" which is on my KZfaq Channel.
But thought it would be worthy to do a vocal coach reaction.

Have you heard "sails of charon" the Uli John Roth (original scorpions guitarist) is 100x better. You'll find it as uli Roth sails of charon. Klaus ain't got shit on the vocals on that version VS their original.

Dear Baz: Scorpions are scheduled for a few shows in Vegas in July. The challenge of course: Covid 19, the virus that dirty penis eating Chinaman started. Klaus Meine is the greatest singer in rock history. As much as I love heavy metal, I must admit there are almost none good singer, but great bands! People get angry when I say that. And he is actually German, singing in English

Ken, I read maybe in Circus magazine back in the day when this came out '84, that this was a song that's been in their camp they started around '78 but they never finished it, so they decided to finish it for the album Love At First Sting. When this came out in 84 I was 21 and i must worn the magnet off the head of my cassette player in my '67 Mustang Fastback on a side note that I wished I never sold.

What's amazing to me is how well his voice recovered from his surgery before Blackout. I haven't seen the Scorps in years, but at least ten years ago, Klaus was still spot-on.

Klaus is one of my top favorites of the 80's - absolutely genuine, absolutely original. You can identify that it's Klaus singing at the first note. First saw Scorps on the Lovedrive tour, opening for Rainbow. (Post Dio, sadly)

Saw them back in 2000 in Bangalore, when their unplugged Album acoustica came out. Klaus just stood there and delivered every single note, not a nerve popped up on the neck, man what an experience it was then. By the way this was the second song I learnt to play on the guitar. This is amazing. Rudolph's acoustic guitar was a Flying V too. That was something to remember too. I was right at the front and I couldn't hear a thing for about two days!! Life time experience!!

@@kentamplin oh I nearly missed the gig Ken a world jazz fusion band I was playing with went on a ten city tour in the USA, the band played at the knitting factory in NY. I couldn't go on that tour because I didn't have a passport, so the rest of the went to USA and I went to this gig... 😁😁

Im so glad I found this. When Klaus sings, time and the entire universe stands still while the sun shines bright and rainbows and butterflies appear and magic fills the earth and sea. Thanks for discussing him.....Also When you said that "DD" had you audition for "Accept" I almost fell out of my chair. "Udo" has a unique powerful gravely scream voice defunct of melody. Either you were a heavy metal screamer or you had a lovely range even back then and they wanted someone different.

Scorpions are my favorite band, and this is the song I like most - along with Alien Nation, China White (this one has the best guitar parts I've ever heard) and of course, Wind of Change. :-) When I first heard it I was impressed by Mr. Meine's voice, performance - and sincerity he puts into his singing. And that's why the Scorpions became my favorite band ever since. :-)

I am 47 now and in high school, Scorpions were my favorite band. Loved Skid Row, GnR, Def Leppard, etc etc. but Scorpions had incredible guitar sounds, VOCALS and those ballads like this and Holiday were such a step up from the fluffier stuff like Poison (who I liked too)

Heck YES! Klaus Meines voice is really unique, he's a powerhouse! I love the Scorpions, this is one of my favorite tracks, Thanks a lot Mr. Tamplin, your version is really good too because you made it your own. Michael Schenker is an amazing guitar player, love his solo work very much.

Big fan of the Scorps back in the day. Blackout with self portrait of Gottfried Helnwein on the cover......Love At First Sting.....both records, from first to last song, rock!! Lets not forget The Zoo. Man! Every release had/has killer riffs, incredible guitar tone, unforgettable melodies, & emotional vocals. This particular live cut has a lot of effects on the vocal in the mix. Almost as much as the Sebastian Bach vocal critique video.....Well, that was the 80’s & these singers toured endlessly. So Im sure they simply needed a little polish to smooth edges or to boost confidence.....at least some nights, maybe more then others. Thank u for another quality up-load. U r teaching the world to sing.....& looking happy to do so. Passion project & career rolled into one. Stay well Mr. Tamplin & thanks again!!

Klaus Meine. Such a beautiful tone to his voice. So recognisable. Have loved The Scorpions since the early 80s. Some regard them as cheesy but they wrote some brilliant songs. Holiday and Always Somewhere probably my two favourites of their numerous ballads. Another great upload btw man. Loving the channel.

Still loving you and Lady Starlight are my two favourite rock ballads. The gradual build up on SLY still gets me but Lady Starlight is a truly magical song. It really moves me and evokes wonderful memories of when I lived in Mobile Al as a teenager. (I'm originally from northern Ireland) I remember playing World Wide Live in my front room where I thought I was the greatest air guitarist of all time!!!!

Especially his solo on Rock Bottom on the live Strangers In The Night album. Michael was on point that night. One of the best guitar solos ever recorded. Michael Schenker was another level guitar player.

Okay Ken. Just listened to your version! You killed it ! Klaus is a tough act to follow and you didnt try to mimic him (smart). You took a strong vocally charged song and made it your own! Bravo!!!! Job well done. Klaus's voice has always brought me goosebumps (yes that's what I call "em haha). Very brave of you and the "proof was in the singing "!
