Only half right. The "technique" of it can be taught. The "anointing" of it can't be taught, particularly such techniques as squalling. You don't practice how to squall. In the secular world, it would be the equivalent of trying to teach someone how to sing the blues authentically but haven't lived it. It's the same with gospel music, but even the best gospel singers could/should learn some technique and quite a few of them do. You can only go on with your "natural" gift for so long without it eventually showing some wear and tear.

I'll be honest in saying that I'd never heard of her. Does she only sing gospel? I've never really been exposed to more than just basic church hymns and stuff like that. I think she's not widely recognized because Christian music, in general, is not very popular these days. But she is incredible, there's no denying that. Definitely owe a big thank you to Tara but also the fans for suggesting this one. I really enjoy the wide array of music she reacts to.

@Mr White I normally don't engage in back and forths, but in this instance, I think it would be beneficial to engange in a discussion to educate, because this is not a matter of opinion. I've seen another comment of yours that not only diminished Tamela as an artist, but frankly insulted Taras choice to feature her. Gospel music itself is rooted and forever will be, in the African American church. Sohyang is not only an incredible vocalist she is also a Voice Professor of music. I have no doubt that even she would see your assertion as misguided. Both she and Tamela worked with Kirk Franklin, so there is zero doubt in my mind, that she has great admiration and respect for Tamela, further (and this is vital) if any iconic vocalist would be named as the Goddess/Queen of Gospel music it would be the late great Mahalia Jackson. If this is the first time you've ever heard this name, ( no doubt it is or you would never have typed what you did) it's probably best that you do some deep research, apologize to Tara and the amazing artist she featured, and exit the conversation.

@Mr White First of all, no gospel singer would want to be called a "goddess". Like ever. Secondly, it is extremely disrespectful to try and up one artist by downing another. Thirdly, Sohyang does have roots in Korean Gospel music, most of her production though has been on the CCM genre. While related, CCM is closer to U/CG than to Traditional black gospel that is what most of us tend to regard as..well, gospel gospel. In any case, if you do like gospel music, try to listen to Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams and many others. There have been some very inspiring and exceptional artists on this genre over the years, and yes, Tamela Mann deserves a place among them. Hope that helps, cheers..C:

Tamela Mann is not just a great singer she is anointed to sing and that is what makes the song sound so good 😊 it’s the Holy Spirit that comes over the gospel artist and you can tell because the song starts getting good to all of us who hear it and we all react to the sound of the anointing that’s on the vocalists voice and oftentimes the gospel artists want to shout or speak in tongues but it’s a performance that they are rendering so they have to deliver the quality of the song to the audience but trust, when that anointing gets high sometimes some gospel artists have to go up in a worship and you’ll see those hands go up or those feet go into a dance 💃 the anointing is what every gospel artist needs should want and gotta have that’s why we purchase their songs yep it’s that anointing of God! and to the vocalist couch you are rating everyone’s singing but I can hear it you can really sing oh my goodness please do a song up here I heard those notes (smile) you were singing 🎤 thanks for posting this but you can really sing God Bless
