I'm a fifty five yo white dude that grew up on old fashioned blues & rock. I've seen many bands & artists perform over the years and I reluctantly went to see Whitney in concert back in 1990 or '91, (not sure which). Have to say, Whitney was absolutely the LOUDEST show that I ever saw. Her voice, although beautiful, pierced my ear drums and were still ringing the next day.

She did, and I don't think people gave her the credit she deserved. She always gave you her, honest and true, even when she wasn't at her best. That speaks of her character. Instead, people tore her down for being human and not always living up to her prime. Honestly... no one can live up to her peak. As I was watching this and Taras reactions, I was thinking... if ANYBODY ELSE sang this song the way she was at that moment it would be revered as AMAZING... but because she's Whitney, she was criticized for this amazing vocal performance. To this day, I believe in her later days the pressure to live up to her prime stole her from us and more importantly herself. Just imagine the insecurity it bred within her to get on stage and know that she PHYSICALLY couldn't deliver what people wanted... but again, it takes sheer bravery to STILL go at it live and face it. I can't imagine what it was like being in her shoes...

Almost always, and when her voice was not good in 2000s she used constant playback instead of lipsynching....she used to sing over the tracks. She did lipsynching only in the TV performances...and only some live climaxes in the 90s were lipped.

The way she sang this back in 1992-1994 was awesome, of course, cuz she could outdo the studio version, so it was like watching a magician, a vocal magician, perform in front of you. This performance from 1999 is clearly not that, but I love it to bits, because she was very much aware of her limitations but still very instinctive within that frame of reference. It makes the performance feel much more down to earth, I can connect a lot more to it than her performances earlier in the decade where she was this unstoppable force of nature. If anyone's interested in hearing her sing this in 2004, much later than this, and still sound good and not cringe-inducing as she unfortunately did more often than not later on, here's a link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pL5_qpSbmbKviXU.html

You were spot on in your reaction because the reality is that she must have sung this song a hundred times already and the truth of the matter is that her voice was also changing because of her own addiction and other life choices and although you called it "voice fatigued" it really was the damage from her choices and this performance started to highlighf some of those facts. But in reality, I didn't want to hear her sing the original version but something different. And we all know she's a master in voice manipulation which she did later on in her performances. And YES! WE ALL MISS HER GREATLY!!

This woman just performed for you with her voice grace and elegance and what you do is point out things that ultimately makes her human as if its a knock against her being in fact human. Who are you to point thus out...as if you have zero skeletons..issues..maybe even an illness to which i describe her problems. Her uniqueness is her ability to make people to look past their issues in their life and make them truely smile despite their downfalls. People who truely love and appreciate the people who provide them with the grace she displayed is an angel sent by God to brighten your life even maybe just for a second. You need to learn to appreciate that not knock people down for having an illness..LEARN
