Hi, So they come under the genre crossover. They don't sing one genre, they love to experiment. From left to right they are.. Ko Woorim, he is a classically trained basso profundo. Kang Hyungho, he is a rock singer with a soprano range, he had no formal training before joining Forestella. Next is Cho Mingyu, he is a classically trained leggero tenor and then finally, Bae Doohoon, he is a musical actor/pop vocalist who is a tenor but can be a baritone if needed. (in Korea they say their surnames first). They were formed in a singing competition where they had to learn to harmonize with each other. Their harmonies are one of their strongest assets. also cover wise I would suggest Hijo de la Luna or Nella Fantasia.

INFO: My understanding was each of them was formed and put together in a show called "Phantom Singer". Later they showcased their talent on this show your watching called "Immortal songs" on KBS channel. Its a show in which 6 singers go against each other with the audience deciding who the final winner will be, 1 against 2, then winner of that will go against 3 and on it goes to 6. The one at the end of the night gets a trophy. Forestella have at least won a round, they have not lost a round. They have won about 7 trophies thou. They are a mix of opera, classical, pop and sing from english, french, spanish, korean, not sure about others. It is my understanding they design the musicality of the peices themselves. Someone else can correct me if i was wrong there. My favourite is shape of you, but they have also sang so many other peices but scarborough fair was also a timeless peice for me as well. I have seen alot of reactors show forestella peices it wouldnt appear that any got a copyright strike as it gives attention to the KBS show as well. But hey the country its airing in could be different.

Their cover of Queens Bohemian Rhapsody is soooo good! You really get to hear the different voices at their best.

They are a crossover quartet. Two of them are classically trained opera singers, one of them is a musical actor, and the highest-voiced guy was a research chemist before and a rocker as well as a countertenor. Although I think 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was their best live performance, I highly recommend their cover of 'Time in a Bottle'. Of course, the original song is also moving, but even in a cover that could seem boring at first glance, you can feel a different strange emotion and resonance from the original song... 'Sweet Dreams', 'Legends Never Die', 'Despacito', and 'Smooth Criminal' are also great. However, I can't recommend songs like 'Je Suis Malade' or 'Maldita Sea Mi Suerte' because I cry every time I listen to them.

Happy to see you recognize these uniquely talented and brilliant boys. Loved your reaction. With just 4 of them singing , they sound like a 50 member choir. I could not believe it when I first saw their performance of “ Champions”. For the US tour, they opened with “ Champions” . It stuns you and you remain stunned for the rest of their performance. These lovable boys keep you entertained with the music and friendly talk in English and Korean. One of final performance was “ Utopia” another stunner. You wonder if anyone can perform that live. Yes they can!

Forestella was formed through a Jtbc tv show called phantom singers. Cho Min gyu did very well at each stage and so had the advantage of picking his partners as they moved to, duet , trio, and quartet stages. He chose well. They arranged their own songs then and they were all excellent. Since they have gone famous now, they may be getting additional help. But the forestella members play a big role in arrangement , song writing and stage performance. Between the 4 of them they can handle just about anything. They are a crossover group with so much versatility, technically sound, and unafraid to take risks. You have so much to discover. Enjoy the journey! Lots of great suggestions in the comments. If you are looking for a genre, you won’t find one. They refuse to be pigeonholed like that. They have done everything from their original K-pop song, “Kool”, to their new rock waltz, "Snow Globe" (which seems to be a fanciful retelling of them coming together as a team). Left to right Woorim - Classically trained Bass Hyungho - Rock Countertenor (zero training until he joined the group) Mingyu - Leader and Classically trained Leggiero Tenor (he and Woorim went to the same school) Doohoon - Musical Theater Actor, Baritenor They were competitors on a survival elimination show called “Phantom Singer” whose goal was to create a crossover vocal quartet like Il Divo. They compete 1 v. 1, then the survivors move on to duos, then trios… and finally the Quartet. Mingyu won every round and that gave him the chance to recruit the others. They are lightning in a bottle. The show has turned out several great quartets, but none have the widespread appeal of Forestella. They continue to enter competitions (this is from Immortal Songs where they have won a record breaking 6 consecutive times), put out albums and even toured N. America this year. They intend to keep performing, but they are a man down for the next 18 months as their Bass, Woorim, completes his Mandatory Military service. Well I think it will be interesting for you listening Forestella in French and Spanish. So I am going to ask and recomend you "Je sui malade" and "Despacito".

You have so many recommendations. Everyone has a different favorite spanning multiple genres and languages. Just goes to show Forestella’s versatility and how perfectly executed every performance is. They combine each members talent and experience to create magic!

I suggest you "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Time in a bottle". They dynamically re-arranged both songs perfectly in their own style. I guarantee you'll encounter the best cover songs! And I strongly endorse another world-class singer, So Hyang. I highly recommend her covers of 'Bridge over Troubled Water' and 'You Raise Me Up.' You can experience the truly world-class female vocal with perfect technique, such-a- high note and the ability to move the hearts of listeners. Give it a try once. You won't regret it, for sure! : )

Thank you for doing a deeper dive into Forestella. They are absolutely amazing! I would recommend all of their covers, but for the interest of time, I'll suggest three songs: Nella Fantasia, Je Suis Malade, and Scarborough Fair.

The arranger of the song is 'Park Min-woo' and has worked on several songs with Forestella. Although Forestella does not arrange the whole arrangement, the members also do vocal directing or vocal compilation themselves. (The latest song, Snow Glove, was composed by Kang Hyung-ho) They have also mentioned several songs that they have recorded their own guides since their debut album. They mentioned several times that while working on the song, they demanded a tremendous number of revisions from the lyrics, composition, and arrangement. The Phantom Singer program, in which Forestella participated for their debut, is a program in which classical singers, musical actors, rockers, and amateur singers participate to form a quadruple. After the preliminary round, team members are formed according to the voice of tenors, baritones, and bass in the finals, and the song is selected by themselves. They had to allocate parts within the chosen song and create their own harmonies. (The instrumental composition had a different arranger.) Forrestella's three-member team (Kang joined Forrestella at the end) was evaluated for its excellent production and vocal compilation skills and won the final prize.

Thank you for another reaction to my favorite vocal group. Forestella always add their own twist to the songs they cover. I like this darker vampire-themed version of Bad Romance. Some of their covers with outstanding harmonies are "Hijo de la luna" (Spanish song, but they sing in Korean) and "Scarborough Fair" (English). One of my favorites is "Inner Universe" (Phantom Singer All Stars), which is a theme song of the Japanese anime series "Ghost in the shell". They sing in Russian, English and Latin. Another singer you should definitely check out is China's angel voice "Zhou Shen". His rendition of "Memory" (from the musical Cats) is great or his cover of "Time to say goodbye". His duets "Upwards to the moon" and "Flower walking freely" with Sa Dingding are pure ear candy.

Yes, the guys have always been involved in the creation process, selecting which songs for which show, musical arrangements, choregraphies, everything... since they have musical and acting background (Doo-hoon). And for their original songs, it's the same... I discovered them a few months ago and no day goes by without me listening to them. It's just that kind of energy you need everyday. Hi from Costa Rica 🇨🇷, Forestella es un grupo que se formó en una competencia llamada El cantante Fantasma, al final de forman 3 cuartetos que llegan al final, antes de eso ellos cantan de forma individual, luego en duetos, tríos y al final los 12 finalistas son formados en cuartetos, creo en 2016 o 2017, no estoy segura, ellos ganan esa competencia y continúan como Forestella, este cover es parte de otra competencia, y otra más donde ganan seis veces, sus canciones originales son increíbles también, ellos estan presentes en los arreglos de los covers, son muy talentosos, el tenor Cho Mingyu es el lider, estudió ópera en la universidad de Seul, al igual que Ko Woorim que es el bajo, una voz privilegiada, luego está su barítono Bae Do Hung que estudió actuación y era en ese momento actor de teatro musical, y además tenemos a Pitta que es contratenor, el es el único que no se especializó en música ya que es ingeniero bioquímico si no me equivo, pero tenía una banda rock con unos amigos, así que son chicos muy talentosos trabajan mucho en sus armonías, acaban de sacar un nuevo álbum y una de sus canciones es escrita por Pitta, se llama the glove snow, como todo lo que hacen es increible la música y letra, El bajo en este momento se acaba de ir a hacer el servicio militar por 18 meses, así que el grupo estará presentando con sus tres chicos hasta que regresi Ko Woorim ya que ellos dicen que lo esperan y que desean regrese con buena salud, otro cover es Warriors, Lazenca save us, Rapsodia Bohemia, Champions, We are the Champions, and many original songs❤

They formed due to the South Korean programme Phantom Singer Season 2. They have, however, performed songs from various genres, and done a superb job of it, in my humble opinion. FORESTELLA'S music is CROSSOVER. They take this term very seriously and simply cannot be categorized, none of their songs are the same as any previous one. You will find everything here, from classic belcanto to jazz to epic rock. Their extremely flexible voices and highly accomplished singing techniques allow them to adapt to any genre. And they do it perfectly! Accordingly, they constantly change genres and mix various styles with vocal techniques from different genres and, sometimes more or less pronounced, classical singing. So far they have mainly covered legendary songs and are extremely creative. Forestella's origins are classical, and they still often work with music directors today. Always respecting the original, the always very high quality arrangements are adapted to their voices/ranges and the incredible harmonies (that are their trademark). Thanks to their very special Forestella sound, each of these cover versions becomes a new TOP in its own right. Btw. FORESTELLA has a LOT of originals, but unfortunately most of them are not very well known here in western, because they are Korean and are more classically.

Omg omg thank you so much for this. So forestella is a crossover group made from a competition. Each came from diff backgrounds and they experiment with multiple genres. Oooh I love forestella! They never stop suprising. I personally think you should check out their version of Scarborough fair and legends never die. We are the champions and lazenca, save us are fantastic too! I mean pretty much everything they do is fantastic but these are my personal favourites!

Thanks for your analysis! Please check out their performances of "Time in a Bottle" (a classic by Jim Croce) and "Je Suis Malade" (famously covered by Lara Fabian). From left to right: Woorim (classically trained bass, Hyungho (rock singer, countertenor, never had formal training), Mingyu (classically trained tenor), and Doohoon (baritenor, musical actor).

The voice of Kang Hyung Ho you like, you have to react to Phantom of the opera by him...extraordinary.

In order to get to know them better maybe go for a song where there is less going on, where it is just the four of them in their normal formation. My suggestions would be Scarborough Fair, Hijo De La Luna, Champions (Seoul Festa version), Parla Piu Piano (theme from The Godfather), Nella Fantasia. They really can’t be put in a genre box as they can go from classical to 50’s Latin Spanish songs to pop to metal (Lazenca Save Us). They do the best cover of Bohemian Rhapsody you will ever hear. 8:57 Genre that is called K-Pop. Kpop is unique, they combining several different genre and mix to make their own. Even the kpop boy-band BTS and girl-band BlackPink you can hear that some pop + hiphop + disco + and even rapping in one song. We call this kind of perfectly mixed genre of musical art = Kpop.

You are right at 9:09. There are 2 classical trained (Ko Woorim - bass - far left and Cho Mingyu - tenor - third from left to right), a rock (high pitched Kang Hyung Ho - second on the left and musical actor Bae DooHoon n- far right. So you can see a bit of everything in their singing, arrangements. This variety makes Forestella so unique and phenomenal compared to other quartets out there because typically quartets have the same voices and genres. Btw, the guy you like (you said at the edge) is Kang Hyung Ho. He is responsible of sophora/countertenor of the group. You should check out his solo: The Nation, Survival/Muse, The Phantom of the Opera or in Korean Tears, Sad Beatrice, You are You. You will never regret.
