Thank you for showing the difference! When I found the EV767a I was on the road with a touring rock band. The "go to" for almost every singer and sound man is the SM58 for vocals. In my opinion I never liked them, SM58s sound dry to me and as a vocalist I knew they really made you push hard, they don't pick up your 'real' voice (what you're really doing) like there's compression there or something. During sound check at a show as soon as the vocalist started I had to spin around and look at the mic on his stand because it was SO CLEAR! It sounded like it sounded when we were jamming acapella on the bus. I had to ask the sound man what mic it was. I bought it for the band as a gift immediately, wireless version for the lead vocalist. Of course the 58 is a tank (tough), but the EV stands up to a beating as well and in a live setting, in my opinion, the EV blows the 58 away. If you're a vocalist do check the EV767a out. You will probably be as impressed as I was. Especially if you agree that the 58's sound quality. I personally always hated having to sing through an SM58. But they were and still are the standard vocal mic. I am not saying the 58 sucks. Not at all. But after hearing how good a 767a sounded the EV is the mic I want if I had a choice between the 2 to sing through. By far.

You are right I own a wireless, called the EV1000 with the 767 for the mic. I love them. The sm58 is a good back up but as a tenor vocalist this sounds the best with my voice.

The N/D767a is a supercardiod mic and the SM58 is a cardioid mic. That’s a significant difference in their sound pickup pattern.

In a live situation, my band used to have all sm58's and a shure Beta58 for the lead vocals. We got one of the EV ND767A mics for our lead vocalist and were blown away by how clear it was, how well it cut through the mix, and how much louder we could push it without any annoying feedback. The EV was already louder right out of the box! Now we have thrown out all our Shure mics and we use the ND767a's for all our backup vocals(4 of us), and our lead singer uses the ND96(even better than the 767a's). That's the best combination of mics our band has ever used and they sound awesome! Never going back to Shure mics! EV rules! lol

Do you find the ND96 to be hotter than the ND767s? What about the vocal clarity of the ND96 vs the 767s? Is it just a hotter mic and even better sound than the 767s?
@zzzx8017
@zzzx8017 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrHooskerdu1 It's a higher gain mic that won't feedback at volumes needed for a bigger venue. EV was smart to have the top of the mic squared off so the singer is actually very close to the capsule.(That alone makes it louder without pushing the volume up) It also has a selectable voice presence booster that reduces low mid frequencies and brings out the mid to high frequencies so that you can really cut through the mix. So, it's not just hotter, it's more responsive at any volume and has much better clarity compared to the 767's or the newer 76... which are all way better than an SM58. Also, at it's present price point, you won't find another mic this good. (Even the Shure Beta 58A won't compare) It compares more to mics like the Shure KSM8 which is at $680. The ND96 is at about $230. (this is Canadian dollars) Well worth the $.

@@zzzx8017 Thanks so much for your response. I was thinking about getting the ND86, because it is the closest mic in specs to the nd767, and I like it's looks better than the ND96, but I may just go ahead and get a few of the ND96s instead. They are priced at $149 at many places in the U.S. right now.

@@MrHooskerdu1 You're welcome! I think you'll be happy with either of those mics. The ND96 is actually a higher model, but you're right the ND86 is better than the ND767(which is actually discontinued here)

I own a handful of them and if i come across a used one I'll buy it just to be sure I'll have one when i need it since they dont make them anymore. I own several 58's as well but rarely use them.

Thank you for your review! I would like to say that I can attest to the durability and road worthiness of the EV ND767a! I have been using mine for stage vocals for almost ten years (the same mic). And it is tough! Not a single dent. And the clarity and loudness are unmatchable. I get so many compliments from listeners. I have also used SM58's, but have found they just aren't as loud for me. Also, the SM58 will dent easily I have noticed. Unfortunately the EV ND767a has just recently been discontinued. They have a replacement called the ND76. I just ordered one and I will see if it is comparable to the ND767a. Thanks again!

FYI, Sir. I read the description to see if you included what hymn you played some of (it was played at my fathers funeral services and I would like to hear it more often!) and see you say the 767a is unavailable. That's not true. It can be gotten from several sources including, american musical supply, ebay, zzsounds, sweetwater, etc. and of course direct from ElectroVoice. True. Amazon doesn't have it available and it has been discontinued, unfortunately. It can still be gotten. The actual model number is N/D767a. The N76 you linked is of course the new version of it. I haven't gotten to experience how the N76 sounds.

Hey bro quick question. My gear advisor suggest i go with the ND96 EV over the Shure 58. I primarily am wanting it to plug into my amp with my acoustic guitar and sing along. I’m not a gig guy yet I am pretty raw and new to this. It’s more of a hobby and learning process for me right now. My voice trying to Learn to sing. So with that in mind which mic would be best for my situation? I have a fishman loudbox mini acoustic amp. Thanks!!

I have had Shure SM58 mics and the EV 767a mics. Mics are personal but to me, the EV mic has better gain, better feedback rejection and a better ability to cut through the mix with any instrument or vocal put through it. The Shure is a much older design and while perfectly serviceable, doesn't really keep up with the EV. I've not tested the later model EVs. I own a lot of other Shure products that I love such as the SM8 mics and the KSM 27s.

I would prefer the EV all day long 100% if you know how to set up the right equipment I think the EV is just in front it louder its a cleaner and crisp sound and bit more sensitive I have research it and THE EV was elvis Presley favourite microphone 🎤he used it on stage 100s of time and there actually a video of elvis in 1977 promising his fans that he only uses the best equipment because he said the fans deserve the best of the best throughout any performance and that's what they gonna get he said that and he was using a ELECTRO VOICE MICROPHONE AT THAT EXACT TIME IN THAT PERFORMANCE ELETRO VOICE ALL DAY LONG BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SET UP THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT WITH IT .....

SM58s aren't nearly the mic the ND767a is. First of all, the SM58 is a cardioid mic and more prone to feeding back. The 767a is a hypercardioid mic, and is very difficult to get to feedback. The 767a is much hotter than an SM58 too, so you don't have to push the gain as hard as an SM58. And with it not being as hot of a mic, you are pushing the gain on a cardioid pattern mic. Not good. The 767a also has more clarity and is a warmer mic. Honestly, there's really no comparison between the two for me. I've side by sided them extensively. I'm a tenor and I felt the SM58 was shrill, but the 767a gave my voice much more warmth and clarity, without being shrill, like the SM58. One is remarkably durable (SM58) and the other is less durable, (767a) but a much better sounding mic. It makes sense. The SM58 can be purchased for $88, so it's a great price, and the 767a was $129 maybe 15 years ago. You get what you pay for.
