I believe her runs are more disconnected because she lost some agility so she compensates by disconnecting so she doesn't crack in the middle of the run. Her voice is heavier so those complicated runs become harder to execute. Her voice needs to be lighter and more agile in order for those runs to be complete. But despite that her resonance and clarity are phenomenal given how long she's been singing. Hopefully she is still humidifying her voice before performances because thats always a good thing to do.

For the runs, some of them are I think its because of the corset she's been wearing, but her head and falsetto runs are still quick as lighting. Especially in the new AIWFCIY into in Osaka.

Her runs are disconnected because for her is easier to sing them this way. Breath and control problems. She still struggles with agility. But apart from that, this performance is very good, in my opinion.

and yes, i have to say: her tone (while controversial) is so young and clear in 2018 and it sounds so pleasing - very reminiscent of the daydream and memoirs era! mariah's girly tone has always been there, i guess that's why she sounds weird when her vocals become rough and heavy because it contrasts with her singing style (note: e=mc2 and miamtec era) just my two cents on the topic of her tone! i really hope she betters her technique and takes care of herself and to really EASE of the alcohol; mimi sweetie we know u love your bubblies but DAHHLING the vocalssssssss

On that part "cause I can't go on" there's a unintentional vocal breaks and that's was he's referring part and that's because of her nodules and that's it. Not because she can't hold a note anymore (what?!) or lost some agility bs. Even in 90s she had already shown an unintentional vocal breaks she was famous for that even other singers nowadays copying it by doing intentional vocal breaks and sometimes it leads to damage to your vocal chords. The real reason for her more staccato way of doing her runs instead of legato singing is due to the well documented, even by MC herself in various interviews, vocal nodules. Overtime this will have an effect on her vocal chords and the way her voice sounds. She has rejected the idea of getting these nodules out ( done by people such as Adele, Julie Andrews and L. Gaga to name a few ) because it can affect her trademark whistle ability. Mariah sounds like she has now re-learned how to sing not only around but through the vocal nodules. Her raspy tones and airiness are product of those nodules. This is also a huge reason why she has to do so many lip-sync at times. To allow her voice to rest. So, her voice will keep changing, all we must do is embrace the new voice which to me still sounds incredible. Aslong she keeps warming her voice up and doing vocal exercises and having proper rest then she will be able to still sing for years to come. It becomes more common place - to sing some version of staccato - as the artist ages. They say the "Prime" for a singer is between the ages of 25-32 because of the natural neutral placement of the larynx and vocal elasticity begins to thin after the age of 32. It's that vocal elasticity that's responsible for fluidity - I imagine you notice it more in Mariah because her stylings rely heavily on its use and she's not used to touring - she hasn't found that balance between practice/rest - hence the playback in so many performances.

If this isn't playback, she has worked very hard to get back on track. I'm impressed! Go Mariah!

The runs being disconnected is a breath thing. You can clearly hear she does it when she's running out of breath. :)

Disconnected b/c of her vocal nodules and age. She has to switch up her singing style slightly. It’s like singing when you’re hoarse. You may have to find different ways to hit certain notes, more breath, sing around the notes, scales up to the note, etc

With her having nodules on her vocal cord she have to sing around them and so why she disconnected it cause she don't want to crack in the in middle of her run

I think one of the reason she disconnects her runs are because of nodules. Maybe there are other reasons but i do think they play a part in it
