Mark is so underrated as a singer. He is incredible, and I don't care how many times this song gets covered NOBODY does it like Mark.
@colteberlemusic56682 жыл бұрын
Everyone sees Mark as the comedian but there I'd a reason bill gaither brought him to the vocal band he can sang

Let’s just mention Mark held that note for 18-19 seconds while SITTING. He also has MS. He’s a beast.

Nobody can sing this like the man that wrote it that's why you can really feel Mark telling the story

Mark is telling a story that he believes in with all his being. This arrangement and the singers are utter perfection. Than you ❤

Kate is amazing with her power and control with her high notes! Voctive is a joy to listen to. (Tiffany is no slouch either.)

when she did that high pitched note at the very end, i think that what singing angels must sound like. If i held a note as long as mark did, they would need to put and oxygen tank on me as soon as i let go of the note. This is great

Nothing better than Voctave and Mark on this epic song. I agree, Voctave is what the angels sound like.

Mark's long note is even more impressive when you consider the length of the 3 notes preceding it, in the same breath....no breath taken between the pickup notes and the post! He's an incredible man, incredible strength, and his amazing vocal ability is often overlooked and underrated because of his comedy. I've sung this song many times in a Barbershop chorus...truly amazing and moving song. Oh...the Steeles are great. I heard of you folks before Gaither, then saw the earlier version in one of his videos. Keep on singing! I look forward to hearing songs from your newest release.

"Mary, Did You Know?" is a Christmas song addressing Mary, mother of Jesus, with lyrics written by Mark Lowry in 1984, and originally Mark used the lyrics on Christmas cards. Later on he requested of several friends if someone could put music to his lyrics. The music was written by Buddy Greene in 1991. It was originally recorded by Christian recording artist Michael English on his self-titled debut solo album in 1991. At the time, English and Lowry were members of the Gaither Vocal Band, and Greene was touring with them. The song reached Number 6 on CCM Magazine's Adult Contemporary Chart. Lowry would record the song several times himself, most notably with the Gaither Vocal Band on their 1998 Christmas album, Still the Greatest Story Ever Told. Lowry also recoded it with 'Voctave' while sitting due to being stricken with MS. This was an incredible feat in itself and well worth viewiǹg, and reacting to! 👌I really njoy your reaction! 😎

Mark held that note for 4 measures of straight 4/4 AND at least 1 measure (it's weird to count without any moving melodies/harmonies) with a ritardando. That's AT LEAST 20 beats at a not-so-fast tempo, and at his age... breath control goals!!! ♡♡♡

She's a High Soprano!!! That is her highest note for now but offcourse she can go higher than that note!!
@patheddles40043 жыл бұрын
Just confirmed with a tuning fork - that is a G6. A full tone higher than the Queen of the Night F6. A full fifth higher than the soprano solo C6 in (modern versions of) Allegri's Miserere. ... and she sings it perfectly clear and quiet in the background. I can't even.
@joyhenley21193 жыл бұрын
Contraltos like me can't even hit that in a suddenly cold shower.
@ladykilgore23374 жыл бұрын
I was waiting to see how you'd react to that insane hold and you didn't disappoint, hehehe. In all seriousness, though, this is musical perfection. God created the human voice to do exactly this. In my limited scope of human understanding, I can imagine this is what the singing in Heaven sounds like. It's actually probably far grander, but I can't even fathom anything more perfect than this. Chills every time.
@patheddles40043 жыл бұрын
I mean the whole thing is amazing - the group, the arrangement, the solo, all of that. Totally agree with everyone raving about that. I want to talk about Kate Lott for a minute. Her effortlessly-sustained note at the end, the one that blew your mind, is a D6. Near the end of Mark's epic long note, she flips up briefly to a beautiful and perfectly-controlled G6. Brad you're absolutely right about how hard it is to sing high notes beautifully and softly, but I reckon you're gonna have to recalibrate your sense of awe a bit further. Right there around 5:30 in your video, Kate Lott sings a G6 so perfectly that it's crystal clear but still unobtrusive - so much so that you didn't even notice it. I'm not saying that that G6 is the single most impressive high note I've ever heard, but I am saying I can't think of any better candidates right now. Not even Diana Damrau's hammer-blow F6's in Der Hölle Rache (Queen of the Night), or any of Dimash Kudaibergen's ethereal stratospheric perfection.

Not sure if you know this, but Mark Lowry wrote this song combined with his delivery and the best vocalists in the world makes the performance even more special.

@Brad Steele To answer your question about Sopranos, they can't. I have NEVER heard anyone with the volume control that Kate Lott has. Her volume control is PERFECT. That combined with her ridiculous range makes her, in my book, the greatest living Soprano at this time.

It really is beautiful, they create such a lovely wall of sound. I know plenty of other Home Free fans will be asking for their songs, so could I make a couple of other suggestions? One is the acapella group Straight No Chaser - they have a live, acoustic version of Mary Did You Know that is one of my favourites and also the Christmas Can-Can, which is such a lot of fun. There's also a couple called the Hound + the Fox, they have versions of What Child Is This/Child of the Poor and Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song) that I can't stop listening to at Christmas time.
@joyhenley21193 жыл бұрын
I love this version, but my favorite will always be Mark with a simple piano accompaniment at first, with David Phelps and Guy Penrod singing backup at a few key spots. Full orchestration comes in at the end, but it's mostly a piano and the guys. It was on one of the Gaither videos back when Mark was still with the group. And I could never hit a note that high, ever. I'm a contralto. My playlists are populated with male singers because I make a much better tenor than my father ever did and can pull off a decent baritone if you're desperate. Sopranos scare me. #altosarepeopletoo

@rosesnviolets16383 жыл бұрын
Because she does a very good job at singing them quietly so as not to overpower the lead singer. Out of all the reactions I have seen, I have not seen ONE that reacts to her high note. They all focus on Mark Lowry’s long note. I didn’t even notice the G6 at first and when I read comments talking about it, I literally went online and bought their arrangement to figure out where the high note was and then listened to it again. It’s impressive because I’ve never heard any sopranos sing so high and quiet at the same time. They usually overpower an entire choir. Goes to show you how much of a skilled singer Kate Lott is.
