Several years after Mark penned this as a poem, he sent it to several others to put it to music. Buddy Green, an excellent harmonica player, put it to music in this beautiful minor key. Kudos to all involved in this collaboration and video!

You're talking about staggered breathing. Very good technique is required for choirs to do this well. Voctave are smoother than water itself! Kate Lott (1st soprano) definitely does have chops. Mark Lowry is the writer of this song. He is also the one who held the longer notes. Groups like a Voctave can hide those notes by switching off to another person singing the same note, but Mark held that note for well over 20 seconds. That’s insane. The word was LAMB, it the phrase started a few words prior which were all in the same breath.

Jamey Ray is the founder and genius arranger for Voctave. All of these guys are distinguished solo singers in their own right and as you know as someone who has sung in choirs that that ability as well as the ability to blend can be two quite different talents. Also, Jamey writes the part for these exact singers not just in general, add to this perfect attacks, perfect releases, total dynamic and vibrato control, finally they sound like this LIVE not just in the studio -- it's scary. I almost gave up singing at all after first hearing Voctave, but after a while it has just become a challenge to try to live up to the super-high standard that they set.
