Dimash defies all efforts at classification of voice types. He is redefining what is possible with the human voice. I don’t think he has yet shown us everything he can do. As you say, an E6 head voice/falsetto is easy for him...he can definitely go much, much higher. Similarly, with his lower register. He is going be a case study for years to come. Meanwhile, we should just sit back and enjoy his incredible talent, technique and artistry. We are blessed to be living in this age and to see this phenomenon. 😍😍😍

I'm convinced Dimash will do for vocalists what Paganini did for violin playing 200 years ago. Paganini completely blew the hinges off the doors of violin technique, defying and redefining all that was once thought possible, normal, or even acceptable/tasteful. The violinists of today arguably would not have the technical prowess they have today without Paganini's foundation. There were others, of course, but Paganini was a real standout.

Thank you, Elizabeth - this was an excellent analysis that I will be watching multiple times. We had another professional opera singer who has reacted to Dimash, but when she did her reaction/analysis to this performance she didn't make it all the way through the song. She was going along, confidently explaining Dimash's amazing technique. Then when he started that section that you're calling reinforced falsetto (about 11:13 in your video), we lost her. She said something about him breaking all the rules, what he was doing was impossible, that she didn't understand it, and she had nothing more to say about it. She ended the video there. There's been a lot of controversy among professional voice teachers about that particular register of Dimash's; some insist it's not falsetto, some call it "super head voice", some call it pure "soprano", some call it reinforced falsetto, as you do. Me? I just call it phenomenal and that's enough. Dimash himself says he's an "ordinary tenor". One of his several mentors from his earlier years says he's a countertenor. I tend to believe Dimash, though, because who would know better than he? 🤣 Eagerly awaiting your next Dimash analysis. Subscribed today.

Hi Snarky Tart! Thanks for this comment. I've been genuinely surprised by the number of people saying that Dimash was a soprano, and this explains the origins of some of those thoughts. Cool side note: a lot of times countertenors start as baritones, or vice versa. My friend and grammy-winning opera singer, John Brancy, recently gave an insane performance at Walt Disney Hall that went through both baritone and countertenor ranges. It's was a delight to see live.

Day, Give me love, My Swan, My Homeland, War and Peace.

Thank you so much!❤ (impressive editing job, btw - being able to sync the two performance videos together so perfectly, plus layering your reaction over the top, is not easy!) I'm female, with little-to-no hope of even coming *close* to a D6 or E6 - unless I dropped something very heavy on my toes!😆 - let alone being able to do so, so beautifully cleanly and clearly... Amazingly, Dimash's official 6+ octave range (C2-D8) actually *excludes* vocal fry, otherwise we'd be starting all the way down at an A1/B1 before soaring towards that infamous whistle-toned D8 "dolphin note" of his...!😮😮😮 He's so difficult to categorise, that the classification of male voices clearly needs extending, to cover bass, baritone, tenor, countertenor, and Dimash - though of course, the latter category will only ever have one occupant!😉 Thank you for a great analysis/reaction, sending you much love and hugs from a British Dear❤🇬🇧🤗 (ps - I love your hair! It's so beautiful, and I'm super-envious - it looks great!👌💋)

He does perform this number where he moves around. But in this case, because of the stage show going on around him, they had all sorts of lasers focused on him, so he had to be anchored to one spot. He does have true whistle - he does (as far as I have seen) an F#7 (in diva dance in Video called Drunken Concubine kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g96RY5iZr-C-gac.html) and a D8 whistle (in Unforgettable day GAKKU concert kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5tii6ea0cyaYmw.html). Hello! 😊Thank you sooo much for the great video 😊Hmm But it's not falsetto. It's full head voice (and that's also what all other voice teachers/vocal coaches who analyzed him (around 60 people I think 😄 one of them is e.g. a renowned university professor of classical music (vocal) say about it). It's his M2, it's connected, sung with vocal fold closure and has the tone and resonance of head voice. Also his own voice teacher said it was head voice 😊 Btw, when you stopped around 5:35, he hadn't sung in head voice yet 😊that's a heavy mix. He was basically still in his M1. (Dimash uses a heavy mix with round vowels til appr. D5. After that he needs to get a little less heavy and brighter. He can go veery high in his lighter, brighter, contemporary mix)

Fun to watch. I love opera. To me he sounds more like a powerful female lyric soprano up high than other countertenors do. The fullness around C you just don't hear in other countertenors. What do you think? When you hear him sing live without a mike, it is not a small voice made big by a mike. From bottom to top is is a good sized instrument to me.

I prefer the Singer version. In Slavic Bazaar his french is better, and his lows are fuller, and it's excellent. But I think the highs, the crescendo/decrescendo at the end, the stage lighting and band make that one superior FOR ME. Also there is a difference between the two as far as his stage persona, he looks like a teenager in the Singer version and a lady killer/perfect manga character in the Slavic Bazaar. Another worthy version is I think it is the concert in Arnau, where he is in the ball floating above the crowd and has the tribute to his childhood friend Denis Ten is very special as well. It's really just amazing that he has all these different performances of the same song that people can debate which is better.
