I'm so happy that you took the time to feature Gigi and the Vibes on your channel! There's a lot of truth in what you mentioned about Filipinos and their love of singing because this provides the basis for Gigi's impressive singing talent. Voice lessons are not the norm in the Philippines and not a lot of Filipinos can afford them or would find it even a priority. However, they are passionate about karaoke and it is this platform that allows them to try out their singing in a fun and comfortable way - with family, friends and work peers. There is no voice coach to teach them about techniques. What they learn is purely from emulation of their favorite singers. Vocal dynamics, breath control, vibrato, articulation is not something they consciously think about - it's more of feeling that the delivery is "right". Even without any known formal vocal schooling, Gigi is very confortable with her vocal range and is fearless in trying out new things. Watching her perform is delightful because she puts so much feeling into it and the vocal technique becomes second nature. Gigi has been schooled in live streams where she takes requests from fans. Some of these songs are from a list of hundreds they already performed previously but they also attempt to sing new ones they have not done before. I look forward to more of your reactions to some of her covers - "Better Days" (Diane Reeves), "Fly Me to the Moon" (Frank Sinatra), "Angel Baby" (Troye Sivan), "L.O.V.E." (Nat King Cole). While a lot of what you say may be true for the large majority of amateur singers in the Phillipines (or anywhere else) in this day and age people have access to the internet and can gain top quality information on vocal pedagogy, singing tips as well as very useable vocal exercises to grow your singing voice and develop sound healthy vocal technique. Ideally you need guidance and assistance but some people have an innate talent and understanding of the voice and get by a long with information online I speak from my own personal experience in growing my voice and developing world class elite level singing technique. You just have to be smart in selecting your sources and have the discipline of training your voice religiously and correctly long term and don't stop or drop the ball by being complacent and lazy. Having said all that singers at the skill level of Gigi, Morissette, Lea Salonga, Katrina Velarde et al. all have top level vocal coaches throughout the years from the early stages of their careers or even from their youth. You just don't get to be on that skill level by one day getting out of bed and picking up a microphone. I can tell (so can many other people such as vocal coaches) a trained voice, a highly trained voice and an untrained very good singer from many things such as placement, resonance, jaw and facial tension, tone, diaphragmatic support, positioning of larynx. breath control etc. Why am I saying all this? I don't want aspiring singers to think great singing skills are a result of God given talent alone. It requires hard work and dedication as well as making smart choices of knowing what works for you and what doesn't. You just have to put in the effort and be prepared to work for your goals LONG TERM. There is no magic pudding or magic tips or instant magic solution. It's 5% talent and 95% disciplined hard work. You will only be as good as the amount of work you are prepared to put in. And if anyone thinks they can get by with their talent alone just remember it is a tough industry this music thing is and they are competing with maybe people with less talent but who are putting so much work to achieve their goals. So in the end the contest is between complacency and dedicated ambition. Life tells us the battle between these two mostly does not end so well with the former and the latter as a general rule will always prevail. Gigi will attest to this just like any other singer who sings at that elite level of singing (me included). Doing it alone will get you fast but doing it together (with assistance and guidance be it from the internet or a personal vocal coach) will get you far.

@@TheProtestantPope I agree. You can only get at a certain level on your own but you can also progress further with a good vocal mentor. Kudos to a lot of the vocal teachers who take the time to react to song performances aside from their other publicly-available voice instructions.

Welcome to Gigis’ world ❤ Thanks for featuring Gigi As I am watching this , very sad and tearful , Gigis’s’ mom just passed away last night 😢 She’s the driving force of Gigis’ career and success after she discovered Gigis’ talent when she was 4 years old She encouraged Gigi to sing more She truly believed that Gigi has that unique singing voice She became Gigis’ number one fan She is so proud of her and Gigi while growing up also realized that she has this in born talent and became her passion , Gigi didn’t have a formal education in music and singing

Gigi and the Gigi Vibes are amazing. I know how great Mori, Katrina, and Sohyang are but Gigi is my favorite artist today. Gigi's golden tone and versatility are out of the world. Keep listening and prepare to be amazed. She has so many sides. 80s Gigi is my favorite.

Good reaction from a vocal coach who knows a great vocalist. Gigi de Lana is one of a kind singer. Her rendition of Though the fire x Piano in the dark is SPECTACULAR. She's stunningly beautiful with a voice of an angel. You have to react to her cover of BETTER DAYS. It's a great one. 💯💯💯🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶

Hi Christi, great analysis. The Gigi rabbit hole is deep! U had some Q's which i will try to answer. Yes she's untrained & was joining singing contests for many yrs. She's been playing with this wedding/party band for over a decade. During the pandemic, everything was closed down for a very long time in PH. They had no gigs, became very broke & depressed. So they decided to do livestreams from a 1-car garage for 2-3 hrs, taking song requests. They only had a few viewers when they started, but fast forward to 2024, they now have 2.14 Million subs on their channel. They have many videos, but for starters, u can chk out BETTER DAYS (Diane Reeves), FLY ME TO THE MOON, ALL I ASK (Adele). They moved to a real music studio last year. They are now finishing up their US & Canada tour. I saw them live in New York last month ❤

So far you've reacted to my favorites (AJ, Mori, Lara, Marcelito and now Gigi). Gigi does few great duet with Daryl Ong (After All - Peter Cetera & Cher cover & I Just Can't Stop Loving You - Michael Jackson cover). I have 2 additional singer your might want to consider: Lucy Thomas 20 yo from England who just did her 1st live stage performance in Manchester, England. She often sings with her younger sister Martha 15 yo; last year on mother's day Lucy, Martha & Louise (mother) recorded "SMILE'" music composed by Charlie Chaplin in 1936 and later Turner & Parsons added the lyrics in 1954 which was then released by Nat King Cole. The other singer to consider ifsTori Holub (20) some refer to her as Karen Carpenter 2.0 (very-very close). If you get the chance check out "We've Only Just Begun" with James Wilkas. Unfortunately, she isn't getting much love on YT...those who have checked her out are stunned, just like reactor who experience AJ's "I Put A Spell on You". This is "The Queen of Covers" as she is known. ANY song ANY style and she and her band own it. Usually, take a song and put their own spin on it. Try Unholy, fly me to the Moon, L.O.V.E, Decode etc. A real rabbit hole artist and one of my favourite artists. 2 million subscribers from a live stream audience, which started during the pandemic to pay for her mums cancer treatment.

Gigi & Morissette did a Toni Braxton medley ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/apyhoct_mJaaYWw.html). BTW, Gigi and Gigi Vibes I believe are on the tail end of "Rated Gigi Tour" in the U.S.-Canada with 2 more dates in Canada (1 being tomorrow), they completed their US tour in April. The Rated Gigi: World Tour began in Washington on April 5 at the Snoqualmie Casino, then went to Hawaii on the 7th at the Coral Ballroom in Honolulu. Next US stops include Chicago (Copernicus Theatre, April 12), San Francisco (Fox Theatre Redwood City, April 13), San Diego (Sycuan Casino, April 19), New York (Astoria Manor Queens, April 21), Las Vegas (Sam’s Town, April 26), and Los Angeles (Saban Theatre Beverly Hills, April 27). The Canadian tour begins in Winnipeg on May 3 at the Club Regent Event Center, followed by the Toronto show on the next day at the Global Kingdom Ministries. On May 10, Gigi and Gigi Vibes will be at the Aria Banquet & Convention Centre in Vancouver. Calgary will be the last stop for the Canadian leg on May 12 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsflex & Jim Starlight Centre. FYI, I know of 2 reactors 1 from Southern California who traveled North to Redwood City, California and another reactor from the East Coast who traveled to Toronto and got to take pictures with Gigi and the band shortly after they departed their plane (all were smiling and very open)

Gigi had been well trained by Top Filipino Musicians when she was competing for a yearly national singing competition two times in Philippines , when She was 14 yrs. 2nd placer and 1st place when She was 17 yrs old i think.

yes she was a wedding singer with her band before, she sings in a lot of big corporate events, big birthday events, special big events of politics and all that. That was her bread and butter. The audio engineer is also a singer in a premier group in their country.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Most Filipino singers do NOT have formal training. It is just part of the culture to encourage to children at a very young age. Of course, there are a very few exceptions such as Leah Salonga and a few others. After being discovered, some go through some sort of training at their own expense. Gigi is so versatile because she does different genres and actually makes the song her own.she even has a Rock medley and many more! Thank you for reacting to Filipino singers.

I enjoyed your analysis and insight. I should point out that this video is from more than 2 years ago, and her voice has changed since early 2023 when she was diagnosed with vocal nodules. I saw her live in April 2024, and can say that Gigi's vocal tone has deteriorated. She can still hit the notes, and hopefully she will regain that beautiful tone.

Singing is part of Filipino culture. Just like beauty pageants, singing contests ALL AGES are held all year round in some parts of the country - in schools, town/city/provincial festivals and tv shows - even among TikTokers where they give cash prizes for winners. Then you have singing in parties (birthdays, wedding, office, etc). Then you have karaoke at malls and homes just in case you get the singing bug activated out of nowhere. With Filipinos, not only rice is life, but singing is also our oxygen.

Thanks for a beautiful Reaction and You even for the first time you Have described Gigis’ talent liked you have known her for a long time When Gigi became older , she joined a lot of talent shows and when became an adult , she was singing in events And parties where she met her band members and her longtime partner Erwin Lacsa and they duet in most of their gigs , Erwin is also their producer Manager and owner of the studio He’s the one that had a degree in music in one of Philippines prestigious University and a member of a famous choir , I hope you can feature one of their old song “The Prayer “🙏 Now he’s usually works behind the scene of all Gigis’ covers with the GGVIBES boys and she considers them her family ❤ Erwin is the jack of all trades for the group , sound , lighting engineer and also manager ❤❤❤

Gigi is such a fascinating singer where every cover is different from the other. She's like a different singer everytime. She shifts from different genres like it doesn't matter like a chameleon from old to new she kills 'em all. Perhaps a versatility you've never seen before. She's that good 👌

Well im sure u know these are from livestreams they did for 2+ years from a garage. These ran for 2-3 hours, 3x a week, taking song requests from viewers. So she has to sing hundreds & hundreds of songs. That's talent right there, not just Gigi but the band members as well.
