Hello Justin and welcome to Voice of Baceprot! They are Muslims who grew up in a small, rural, conservative village in West Java, Indonesia. No silver spoons here, they came from very limited finances and resources (even very limited internet access), and their journey has literally been one of blood, sweat, and tears (with many cultural and religious obstacles, some life-threatening). They are physically tiny, but have giant hearts and shining souls, along with massive courage, becoming the first rock/metal band to reach the world stage while wearing/practicing hijab. Nadia Yustina, their manager, admits she sometimes feels guilty about the responsibility on their shoulders. “It’s up to them to show the world what Islam means in Indonesia,” she says, “and to show the youth of Indonesia they can do whatever they set their minds to.” As for their music, and the changing up of sections that you mentioned, their main influences when they started included System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, and Metallica, and they honor these bands with many covers.

"God, Allow Me (Please) to Play Music". This single came after the personnel consisting of three veiled women experienced a bit of intolerance in the environment. Criticism and stigma came and went from all directions and almost made them want to give up on the music scene in 2016. "The more we try to avoid criticism, distanced himself, it became even more vicious, it provoked us to fight even more outspokenly," VoB vocalist and guitarist Firdda "Marsya" Kurnia said in an official statement. "We want people listening to this song to be more tolerant of other people. God does not belong to just one person or a group of people," said Marsya. "So, everyone has the right to creation, and the responsibility for their creation is given by God," Marsya continued. Voice of Baceprot (VoB) is one of the Indonesian metal band groups that speak out loud about social issues. Marsya, the vocalist, revealed that the songs were explored from everyday experiences to reading references.
