Voice of the Bard by Arthur L Wood
Have you ever felt the nighttime
Fall its drunken way,
Into the winsome lap of dawn?
Let’s blaze into another day.
Uprise the voice of thunder!
Sing with broken vocal chords,
These monosyllabic words:
Rise and hear the voice of the bard!
Down dusty roads to Golgotha,
Let’s go marching boldly!
I’ll leap over the country stile,
And greet the god with wonder,
I’ll make him crack a smile!
And in the Misty morning fields,
Guided by the sacred birds,
Cry monosyllabic words:
Rise and hear the voice of the bard!
Up and cast off patient thought,
Fly across the shining sky,
See the faded poet die,
He’ll come again with dripping hands,
And press his watered finger ends
On our lost and mystic eyes.
Arise! Arise! Cry to the sun,
And feel the presence of the lord,
Sing monosyllabic words:
Rise and hear the voice of the bard!
I float above the salty seas,
And enter blue eternity,
Singing the songs of my heart!
There will never come a time
When I burn with mortal flesh,
For I am floating on and on,
And you will join me in this sky,
If sing in your mind
With the help of your tongue,
To the beat of the deadly drum,
With lacerated vocal chords,
These monosyllabic words
Rise and hear the voice of the bard!
