Roger did smoke, which may have contributed to his losing his higher voice he had earlier in Queen’s catalog. You should do Brian May’s “39” to hear his wonderful voice.

I agree that smoking and drinking didn't help Roger keep his higher pitch voice. But who knew the impact of smoking and drinking back then? I wonder if it would have changed their lifestyles if they had know? Probably not. It also occurs with age "After the age of 30, men start losing muscle mass and the muscle fibre in their larynx weakens." I believe Roger was in his late 20's when he lost the ability to hit those amazing high (dog whistle) notes but his voice has, thankfully, remained strong throughout his life. And, of course, Freddie's voice changed with the years but still remained amazing until the very last word he sang to us ("love", which I find so appropriate) in 'Mother Love'.

Queen always were four musicians with equal rights at that time. Each of them wrote more than one number 1 hit. Since Freddys death all is just about him... Saw them on the next tour in '82 - totally changed my life!

Roger Taylor is an unbelievable musician. All 4 Queen members are. John Deacon couldn't sing great, but as a bassist and composer, he matched the best of them. Freddie and Brian's genius speaks for itself. Loved your review, thanks for the video

Loved this!! If you want to hear more of Roger singing (and Brian too) you could react to No One But You, it’s a tribute song they did to Freddie in 1997, it’s sooo beautiful!! And if you want to see how much higher Roger can go you could also check out In the Lap of the Gods live at the Rainbow 1974 or ‘39’ live at Earls Court 1977!! He was and still is such a great singer and drummer, very underrated!

When it comes to singing drummers, Roger Taylor must be one of the very best at it. It isn't just the timing of the song which is 6/8, it is the sudden explosive fills and all the cymbal catches and he doesn't miss a thing. It really is 10/10 and there aren't many people who can do it properly. It is hugely difficult

Whoa! I didn’t expect to see anyone react to this song. The studio version is one of my favorite Queen songs and it really shows off what a unique great voice he has. He’s actually the one doing the high “Galileo” on Bohemian Rhapsody.

One of the best reactions to Roger I’ve heard ! I enjoyed your reaction very much. Roger is amazing. He’s my favourite drummer and one of my favourite singers. He has a great solo catalogue too. The studio version of this song is really good - it’s longer as well. I was lucky enough to hear him sing this live on Queens Australian tour at the start of the year and he sounded incredible both drumming and singing. The entire concert with Adam Lambert was just sensational. . Thank you once again and all the best from 🇦🇺

Taylor's voice range is insane. His "rest" voice is raspy but he could also reach the higher notes than anybody else in the band, higher than Mercury. That's why it's Taylor singing the "galileo" high notes in Bohemia Rhapsody, not Mercury.

A better example of Roger’s singing is Somebody to Love from the same concert. That song is more melodic and shows his range more. And yes, Roger frequently took over notes and melody lines, when Freddie’s voice was strained. Often, it was decided ahead of time, if Freddie felt his voice wasn’t going to hit all the high notes to have Roger’s mic louder in the mix there. Other times, Freddie’s voice would go out suddenly, and Roger was phenomenally in tune with that, and could instantly take over to cover the notes so Freddie could pause and then come in lower.

Every album of Queen had one or two Roger songs where he is the lead singer. If you like Roger's singing, he did two solo albums, both were really good, but no singles were released from either. I have both on vinyl and my favorite is is first, Fun in Space. On that album, he played 51% of the guitar, and 100% of the rest including 100% of the vocals. Great album to listen to start to finish.

Thank you for this video. As a busker (and lifelong Queen fan) I appreciate your words regarding singers needing a rest. I work for around 2-3 hours when I busk, and sing in many ranges using different throat shapes and vocal styles/techniques as I sing everything from Queen to Bob Dylan with the likes of Orbison, Wilburys, Beatles, Otis, Cooke, Skynyrd, Floyd, Twitty, Every Bros, Jeff Buckley, Hot Chocolate, Tracey Chapman, Lou Reed, Sedaka and lots of others thrown into the mix. I don't do impressions as such but I try to lend my voice towards the original sound/style as busking is partly about trying to make some money (obviously) and making each song instantly recognisable is more profitable than 'making the song your own'. I find it very important to throw in a few instrumental versions to save my throat for a while, give my lungs a rest and so on. Even though I only play a nylon guitar and sit cross legged, people do not understand how tiring it is (ok, I do have heart disease so that is a factor) and moving vocally from an in key, raspy performance of Fat Bottomed Girls straight into a clean tone for Bye Bye Love and so on really does take its toll on you. Ok I have rabbited a bit but it is nice to see Roger being appreciated for his talents and singers being given credit for their workload!

The main band I was in back in "the day" played a lot of Led Zeppelin, Rush and Who song's (we also did a lot of other Classic Rock tunes), just 3 guys playing privet parties and an occasional bar gig. I was the drummer/lead singer, besides a few songs where the bassist did some back-up I was the only singer in this band. We had some prity lousy sound gear in the beginning and never had a complete system so it was always difficult to hear myself singing as I'm a heavy hitting drummer witch necessitated a high stage level. The one thing that helped me sing better was a head-set mic, that one piece of $150 gear made it so much easier for me to sing! Only problem was the bleed of the drums into the head-set, made my drums sound like Neil Pearts drum sound on Rush's "All the Worlds a Stage" album. Not an optimal drum sound but I'm a big Rush fan so it didn't bother me, I sing much better standing so sitting behind the drums hampered my singing a bit. We once did an out-door festival on a very large stage with a very large sound system that was to be used for the NC Symphony (I knew the guy who ran the stage and he let us play for about 30 mins). Probably the best we sounded and with all that room on the stage my head-set worked fantastically! We where a nobody band that never got anywhere near the East Coast Circuit level but we actually gathered a nice little crowd that day.

FYI- Queen did not have the rights to the Montreal’81 concert. When they finally got them, their engineers had to fix the video. It was filmed over 2 nights, and the cameras were getting in the way, really annoying Freddy. In 2007, they recorded Brian and Roger as they watched the new footage. Unfortunately, a lot of the visuals were thrown away. The engineers had to piece back the audio to match what video remained. The entire commentary can be found on this KZfaq site. But, this is the short portion where “Killer Queen” leads into “I’m in love with my car”, with comments (closed captioned) by Roger & Brian. All 19 videos of the concert give you a full look into what happened and how they felt about it. Roger was definitely the quintessential drummer while constantly supporting Freddie on vocals. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iMyDjK1l0pmzk4k.html A note about Phil Collins. He’s getting Genesis back together (no Peter Gabriel). Phil has back problems, so his son will be on drums!
