Faouzia is a 20yo Moroccan 🇲🇦 (living in Canada) She never took any vocal lesson she writes her songs by herself she's a multi-instrumentalist (violin, guitare and piano ) she speaks 3 languages fluently (english, arabic and french) and she still following her engineer studies She did a song (BATTLE) with David guetta on his ICONIC album 7 when she was 17 She made a song with a famous french rapper called Ninho for his album, the song (MONEY) went platinium She sang ( I FLY) featuring Galantis for the film SCOOB She also sang with Kelly Clarkson the arab version of (I DARE YOU) She made a song (MINEFIELDS) with the one and only JOHN LEGEND She also droped out an EP of all her stripped songs .. it's amazingly wonderful and mind-blowing.

What "annoys" me with Faouzia is that I am not a big fan of her official/original songs. I am not sure what it is about their arrangements I don't like they just don't catch me. The stripped down versions of the same songs on the other hand are sooooooooo good and her voice is marvelous. As Sam says she is going to do great in this industry for years to come.

I love how you have the ability to analyze a singer without making it boring to listen to for one, and also being able to explain things in terms that us non-music majors and teachers can understand what you're talking about. I find learning about how the voice works where singing is concerned and all the things people do or don't do that make singing happen or make it easier and all the other technical aspects of it but I've tried watching the videos of many vocal teachers and coaches and there are only a few who's channels I returned to after a video or two because I found that most are either only trying to show off their own voices or talent, constantly singing over the artist they're supposed to be watching to see if they can hit this note or that note themselves or just to show that they have a nice voice as well and you end up hearing more of them singing themselves more than the artist or any intelligent analysis whatsoever. Either that or they do a good job of analyzing but they do it in a way that, to me, just sounds like they're trying to sound smart, like they want to show off just how intelligent they are about it that they end up making it to where it's just confusing and uninteresting to listen to because they're trying so hard to sound smart that it almost sounds like they're reading the things they say right from a textbook or something. I love how you can break things down to where anyone, especially people like me who know nothing about any of it but find it interesting, can follow easily and understand exactly what you're talking about, and do it without boring us to tears and making it feel like we're sitting thru a lecture on the subject. I also love your positivity, how you can essentially criticize someone or something they're doing rather, without making it seem like you're just looking for and picking out every flaw you might see, you're always very respectful of everyone you react to whether good or bad, when I first discovered your channel I binged watched all your videos and one in particular was reaction to the worst auditions I believe it was and some of those people most would say were pretty off in their singing to say the least but I loved that on each and every one of them, you explained what they were doing technically that was making them sound so bad, why they were probably doing it that way, and what you would have them do to fix it if you were working with them. I loved that. And I loved how you seemed to feel exactly as I do when the judges are overly harsh and basically just flat out mean for no reason other than tv ratings pretty much. One guy in particular that they told in no uncertain terms to never sing again and you were like, no keep singing! I love that you genuinely feel that anyone could be a good singer if they really want to and how encouraging to people you always are! It gives those of us who love to sing but might not sound as great as other people, a little hope that we can do it if we just keep working at it! Sorry for the long novel, I said all that to say basically, just thanks for always being such an interesting and informative person to watch and for always being so kind and encouraging to everyone, you've brightened many a person's day, including mine, so keep it up!! As long as you're willing to post videos, we will be here to watch them!! Much love! ❤️

I'm a muslim, and everytime I hear someone reciting the Quran or hear the call of prayer from the nearest mosque, they always have this amazing runs and trills. Now as someone who likes music and singing, I always thought why people never try learn them when singing. The closest one I've heard was from when Moses's mother sang her lullaby from the Prince of Egypt, and I thought that was amazing. So imagine my delight when I listened to her song RIP Love and heard those familiar trills and runs. I've been obssessed with her since then

Arab singers in general use this type of singing so you should definetly try to listen to some! Here are some I like : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hpmHrK2F1ZzOhKM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n5aKqcd225ete4U.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMBpdpyWytC3g6s.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdp1ZaeDt7DFqZs.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZryAZ9iQyqjOZHU.html You could be confused by the clip in this 3rd one lol, it's Algerian and it tackles a lot of actual issues in Algeria which I don't know if you'd relate to because I don't know where you're from. But basically, he meets a Spanish woman and wants to marry her go live in Spain with her. Many Algerian youth want to leave Algeria and marry outside of Algeria in hope of a better future since life is tough here. Anyway the woman leaves to her country but he can't since his demand for a visa is refused and he's sad. In the end, his mom finds someone for him, a woman from down the street. He realizes he can't keep fantasizing after what's foreign and he can have a good life in his country... It's indicated by the shift in the tone of the music to a very traditional style that is played at weedings a lot.

Sam I was wondering how your experience of enjoying music has changed since becoming a voice teacher? Like, are you able to “switch off” your teacher mode and listen to songs/performances without noticing details and somewhat analyzing them? Or has it just become part of your experience now?
@theseeker2586
@theseeker2586 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not a voice teacher and I'm not Sam, but I'd like to share my experience. About 5-6 years ago I started watching videos about vocal technique and stuff like that. I started understanding all the technical differences, how to tell "right" from "wrong", what's a "supported" sound. All those things about runs, riffs, legattos, staccatos, crescendos, diminuendos, mesa di vocce, forte, pianissimo, etc. I learnt about tessituras, vocal fachs, placement, resonance, and all that. Now, what I'm realising is, I can't listen to a singer without thinking about all this stuff. I just can't. I once used to be able to like singers simply for their style and I remember mainly focusing on the lyrical content and the mood/atmosphere of the song. Nowadays, I can't listen to an artist without constantly having all the technical things in mind. I just can't stop judging what they're doing right and what they're doing wrong, how they should be doing this and how they should be doing that. I literally find myself looking at people's mouths while they're singing, to observe their jaw, lips and tongue placement as well as their throats, to see their larynx, or whether there are veins popping. Or I'll be looking to weird things like whether they have a hunched back, whether they raise their shoulders, whether their belly moves while they're breathing etc. I just can't let go and enjoy the performance. I notice every single flaw and I just can't let go off it. I'm thinking about it all so technically, and I'm pretty sure music is not to be listened to in that way. Music is an art, a form of expression first and foremost. It should be about the meaning it conveys, about the emotions, about the mood, the atmosphere, the aesthetic. But I can't seem to enjoy music like that anymore and I can't stand myself for that. So many artists that I used to listen to and love while growing up, I find myself going back to them and judging them negatively, thinking how they're not good singers because they don't do this and that, pitting them against other artists and thinking what they should be doing instead. It's so annoying, really. I lost the sense of music. I don't know if that's how it is for anyone, or if it's just me. But that's just how I am nowadays. I judge whether I like a singer or not on their singing technique, not on their art. And this is not the way it should be. I'm sorry for the long paragraph. I hope I gave some insight.
@alakega
@alakega 3 жыл бұрын
@@theseeker2586 SAME. But it's quite easier for me as i pick the artists i like based on their vocal tone or timbre & then pick the songs i like based on whether the melody is good and the lyrical content. Like that Olivia Rodrigo girl with her hit debut single "Drivers License." I personally don't like people who sing with a very closed-mouth style or who sing cursive (not that she sings in a cursive style) BUT the sweet melody of that song + her beautiful, rich, warm vocals on it with the hard-hitting lyrics all "work together" to continually give me goosebumps everytime i listen to that song 🥰 I get that it's hard for you to "let loose" and enjoy music or a simple live performance BUT there's *got to be* a song that just hit you differently upon first listen 😂 Super curious about whether or not you've ever had that experience, but thanks for the beautiful insight ❤

@@alakega for me i turn it off depending on the artist.If i go on a mariah,demi,ariana,kelly clarkson,xtina,fauozia,sohyang etc etc video i expect great vocals and so im gonna pay attention to details but if i'm just wanting to listen to a normal song i lower my expectations a lot and sometimes i'm surprised by some runs,low or high notes,certain details that sometimes "weaker" singers pull off.However,in a live performance i can't just turn it off and listen to autotuned lived vocals or off key the whole time it's unbearable lool

@@Roguenight863 I think tori Kelly is a millennial tho? I thought she was in her later 20s anyways. I prefer faouzia but rly they're both amazing they have very different voices and styles anyways

Her vibrato is arabic idk if that makes sense , but we arabs sing songs that way so her voice is a mix from arabic moroccan singing style and the normal pop voice

That voice, pretty close from perfection to my ears. It's smooth , beautiful lows, clean and powerful highs, can give me goosebumps :) . Interesting to have your feedback on it.

The vibrato is characteristic of middle eastern, specifically Arabic, music. The vibrato is cultural and highly intentional.

The vibrato that she has is partially due to her Moroccan heritage, if you listen to her song you don't even know me, you will hear it more in her runs and it adds more of an eastern sound.

Thank you for checking her out! Please check more of her. She writes her song herself. And since it's been a long time, could you make check out Sohyang again? She was so active in 2020. Maybe "Love Poem" or "I will always love you"? 😊 Or since you don't know it, her hardest and all-time-kill one called "Everyone" on Immortal songs? She's insane there, I'd love to hear your point of view.

Hey Sam! I think you should definitely react to Ben Platt covering "The Joke" in his Radio City Hall live concert. I know you've reacted to Ben before, and this performance is to me one of his best and a true masterpiece, vocally and emotionally. I think you'd enjoy it, and I guess there's also quite a bit to analyze. The best news is it the whole concert can be found hq on Netflix (with the name Ben Platt Radio City Hall concert), the song is at the 28 min mark! Best wishes from Finland and keep doing what you do! :)
